Indigenous players to have represented MFC

Considering the healthy number of Indigenous players currently on our list, I would love to know the names of all the Indigenous players to have played senior footy for MFC. I can recall M Whelan, A Davey, A Wonameari, S Motlop, J Farmer, S Charles, B Pickett, S Chisolm, One of the Cockatoo-Collins (Donald or David), Isaac Weetra and a former Melbourne and Port Adelaide player who's name I cannot recall (currently has a court case re: domestic violence).

Thanks everyone. By the numbers it appears that Matty Whelan is the Indigenous player to have played the most senior games for MFC - this is a fantastic achievement by "Wheels". I for one hope his record will be smashed by Jurrah, Jetta, Bennel and Wonameari. I would have also included Davey, but I feel he won't play in our next premiership.

Wheels deserves to be a 200 game player, absolutely cruelled by injuries. But unlike some other players, has managed to stake his claim as a quality and necessary player for the club over the years

Sean Charles was a beauty in '94. Sad he couldn't go on.

Yes! It was sad. Ripped Carlton to threads kicking 4 in the finals of 94. I recall he broke his leg badly during his career. I think it might have been at another club. Either StKilda or Carlton. I think he played for both.

When I was going through the list of players, I had a chuckle when I came across the name Lachlan Ross (Essendon 2 games).

Here's a trivia question. What was his claim to fame during his distinguished AFL career?

Sorry, Your going to have to enlighten us with this one...

Eddie Jackson the only premiership player among the group - 1948

Was that for Carltanking at princess park? Someone dived or fell across his leg, it was worse than Nathan Browns from a few years ago as in it was flapping around all over the place.

My old man hated Charles but I loved him cos you or he had absolutely no idea what he was going to do with the footy once he got it. ;)

He tried to make fun of Brett Heady by pulling his ears wide apart. Heady gave him a look as if to say "who the f#ck are you to be giving me sh#t." It was the sought of thing you'd expect to see in a primary school playground. Hilarious.

I reckon Sean Charles was probably our best. Fast as lightning, with all the skills. But...built like a stick insect, and very fragile. I think his worst injury with us was his fractured scaphoid(wrist), which caused problems with non-union. A classic complication of the fracture of this bone. Apparently he had a bone-graft on it in the off-season, and was told to keep the plaster dry for 6 weeks. A few days later he went swimming in the Murray with his mates, and turned up at the doctor's with soggy plaster when he got home. It was never the same after that.

We recruited him from Powelltown, which must have been bloody close to the recent fires. I think he's David Wirrapunda's cousin.

I think he kicked 5 in his first game? v. the Mudpies. I remember seeing him kill the Pies at Vic Park one day(?that day)A potential superstar from whom we didn't get as much as` we would have liked.(like the Ox, Gazza,Stinga,Prymke, etc)

I think he was in our losing Prelim final team in '94(unfortunately in WA v. WCE) when we had that dynamic forward line of Schwarz, Lyon, Jakovich and Charles. We should have won that year, with those stars.

Could Watts, Wonna,Jurrah and Bate one day replicate that potent forward line?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
