Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Then what's the reason for the massive hold up in regards to an anouncement? I'm guessing Melbourne are wanting around $1million a year (same as iPrimus deal) but can't get it. If anyone has an inside word please feel free to share...

My feeling is an announcement pretty soon with a well known company. Expecting in these financial times to be on less than Primus but with incentives when we reach the finals. Say $800,000 in 2009 upto $1.5 whan we win the flag in 2012. I'd say the company will make us work for it too. With players promotions and the like. Just a hunch!

Maybe they are trying to conclude a deal, or maybe they wanted the AFL/MCC assistance amount to be made public before they made an announcement of a sponsor, which may have affected the amount of assistance.

I have also suspected this since late nov. But if this is the case and I were the major sponser I would not be happy about missing out on #1 ND Publicity etc so believe that we don't have anything in place.

I am very anxious that MFC announce a sponsor now that the "Silly Season" is nearly over. Amongst other handicaps, the Club has not released any 2009 merchandise, which is a small "earner". If a sponsor is not available in the current financial climate, I have had a lateral thought following the success of the McGrath Foundation ventures at the Third Test. The National Basketball Association (NBA) in the States has a community-assistance program called "NBA cares". Could the AFL "chip in" extra to the MFC (I know that we've already received extra from the AFL & MCC) and the Club become the vehicle for community-outreach events on behalf of the AFL? Under a banner like "AFL is us"? The MFC already has a history in this area with our involvement in the Pink-Lady game. Instead of going to sponsor functions, players would attend community events. Games could be given themes to assist various community programs. This campaign would give MFC more community links. God knows the AFL needs to improve its public image, and to assist MFC after the draw and other imposts that we've been handed. Just a thought??

FACT !!!! I'm sorry that I can't reveal my sources however the MFC just missed out on a major sponsor to the bombers. This sponsor will be a grocery item. A new company into Australia that wants to take on “CC’s”. The deal was very big and we lost the deal of a number of factors, but the major one was our TV exposure. EFC got wind of our negotiations and pinched them. It proves that unless the MFC get better free to air TV we will not get sponsors tho the levels of the bigger clubs.

Sounds a little strange to me. Essendon have 3 as their naming rights sponsor. this tells me that the new co. may have had a change of heart for what they were after. i.e, did not want to pay for a full name rights

I do agree though that our fixture is an issue and will continue to be while we are not winning games!

I hate them so much!!

Whoever these potential sponsors were, they have clearly made the wrong decision...

"The AFL is believed to want to stop the stadium operator granting the United Arab Emirates-based airline Etihad the 2009 naming rights to the Dome"

simple solution - send them our way! What a marketing day for them on QBM when we knock off the emirates mob!

If that Essendon story is true, its really frustrating.

The problem we will have is that many potential major sponsors will get far more TV coverage as a second tier sponsor at clubs like Essendon, Collingwood, Carlton and the interstate clubs than they will with us. Being banished to a majority of Foxtel games is going to slowly kill us off.

Even with the lure of the number one draft pick, and the exposure generated from that couldn't seal the deal.

Citi Group would be perfect - major international bank with growing presence in Australia - offices in Melbourne and Sydney and 2500 staff doing investment and consumer banking. and so far a low profile - go for it Dees!

Sadly you are mistaken. Although there are parallels with where MFC are at financially

Citi group have lost over 95% of its listed value on US stock exchanges through the global financial crisis and has been subject to a US Government bailout. There was a real risk that they could have gone under without the bailout.

As a consequence, Citigroup like many foreign banks will be reigning in their foreign exposures and concentrating on their domestic markets. I would expect that they will be cutting staff and operations in Australia going forward.

FACT!!!All this information is unsubstantiated and subject to the author's hearsay.

However, better free to air coverage would be preferable for MFC's exposure.

You're spot on that they were burned in the American sub-prime collapse but they are still the biggest - or close to the biggest - bank in the US and are not sinking anywhere - they were one of those too big to fail.

Although the financial sector is hurting that establishment old world look is a fit for us as much as some don't like it, although right now I'd even cop Twisties as a sponsor

No they are no longer the biggest. JPMorgan are way bigger than Citibank based on market cap. Without the US Government bail out they would have gone the same way as Lehman Bros by last Christmas. No financial instititution is too big to fail.

The financial sector particularly the US banking sector is on a saline survival drip and cannot be relied on or expected to be a sponsor.

Twisties would be a more robust sponsor than Citibank!

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
