Smarter Brent Moloney free from injury

You get articles like this every summer, but I liked how he recognises that he needs to 'train smarter and not harder'. He's only 24, and with Scott West to help him out, then hopefully we'll see some genuine improvement in him.

Crunch year for Moloney. He's not the only one. He needs consistent games next year.

I hope it's the turning point because his career is currently in freefall due to his body.

I had high hopes for him at one stage. At this point I'm just hoping for a serviceable midfielder out of him.

He's always had a pretty big upper body.

The way he and Daniel Kerr jog makes me laugh sometimes

Come to think of it, thats a good pick up Eastie. They do run in a similar fashion. Kerr of course is more explosive.

................also needs to play smarter IMO (ie. not just train that way). Here's hoping that Scott West can help in this regard.

He is way too baulky and heavy for todays pace of the game.

He needs to loose 3-5 kg of muscle, otherwise his will be career will be over by the time he is 27-28.

The game is speeding up every year and he is quite slow already.

He will only get slower as he passes 27, so he needs to start to trim down some of that muscle now and pick up some pace.

I have been saying this about him for a couple of years now.

Is it not obvious to everyone else or am i off my rocker on this one?

I know we need a bit of grunt, but he seems to get caught an awful lot lately.

i thikn you're right in that he needs to drop a few kilograms..but i think its mainly so that he doesnt put extra stress on his legs, groins etc from all the upper body weight. I dont think Moloney would be much slower(if at all) than say a jimmy bartel

he is not the same sort of player, but were players like buckley and voss that fast?

you cant say that they would be too slow for todays game...

or am i completely off the track?

not everyone on the team has to be fast, but sure it does help: i just hope that we can utilise the speed of players like buckley, davey, bell, morton and watts

Agree with most that its make or break this year for Moloney amongst others

The biggest problem with us last season was the bad losses

The reason is there were far too many OTHERS

I never mind losing to the better team on the day but this beaten by 100 points crap isnt acceptable

I have always believed a football team should be working on consistently kicking 4 goals a quarter win lose or draw much like Plough does

I dont want to see a repeat of the Fremantle game even though we won

Not scoring in a quarter is playing into the opponets hands and by not doing so makes us HARDER to beat not EASY beats

By more players taking the next step will at least will make us more competitive and thats what we as supporters want to see in 2009

2009 i am sure we will see some that play inconsistamtly and even some that fail to make an impression but thats the nature of a rebuild

especially with a young list

I remain quietly confident although i still expect a bottom 4 finish

Voss and Buckley had far quicker football minds than what Moloney seems to have.

That's the reason guys like Bartel can get away with being a touch slow.

Not sure Moloney is afforded that luxury

That's a pretty fair assessment Freak. I would say he's too bulky which prevents mobility, rather than speed. Dropping a few kilos isn't going to make him really speedy, but he might be more agile, which would help.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
