Read that this morning. I'd heard they were keen on him, along with the Kangaroos and St Kilda had been linked earlier. Of that lot I'd say Geelong are in best position to 'take a chance' on a talented player with injury concerns. That said, I still think they could stand to pick up a key position forward, so it would be interesting to see how they'd pick if Johnstone or McKernan were around at this pick.

What knee injury isn't a "freak" accident? Be it an awkward landing, player falling on you etc...

The relevant point is not how he inured himself, but how he's recovered since sustaining the injuries.

BTW Swift only did one ACL, the other one was a PCL (?) which isn't as bad.

whether it was by accident or whatever has nothing to do with the fact it has probably tarnished him as a player and increased the likelihood of him missing big amounts of footy throughout his career

The guy (Swift) in the U-16 video looks more advanced physically than his peers, bigger, stronger, & also carrying some puppy fat. He also appears to me to be just cruising around, not pushing his limits. He appears more physically advanced than his fellow players were at that time. How much of an advantage this gave him back then, who knows, that is my concern.

He's grown considerably in the last couple of years to get to 192cm, and a couple of the recruiting guys have said he has a fantastic attitude and work ethic

a few centimetres shorter but now he has moved into a different category

of player which throws some doubt on to exactly what we would be getting.

The comment that he hasn't really played any great games since he came back from

his injuries adds to the doubt in my mind, a mind that was hell bent on him falling to 17 only a week ago.

Yeah... sorry mate, but i don't understand how being slightly taller is a BAD thing.

Yes, interesting one Eastie.

At one end end it makes a difference (Goodes wouldn't want to be much shorter.)

But at the other end? Remember Troy Simmonds? When he came to us (and I am using a poor memory here) he was a former on baller(or at least a good possession winner) a few centimetres shorter who had now grown somewhat,

(and yes some of us were drooling) (and I think he had spent some time out of footy).

Anyhow, this all meant he was still a very versatile big man when we got him, but we weren't getting an onballer.

And I have cooled, knowing that with Swift I was hoping for a very creative high possession onballer (that he still may become for all I know).

But while I have cooled I wouldn't mind the Footy Dept picking him knowing that know what they're doing.

but once you're are getting to 192 it's very possible you may not be the same sort of player.

Players don't just 'lose' their ability cos they grow a couple of inches - Simmonds still has all the physical attributes of a midfielder (speed and endurance). He's just not a midfielder.

And on Goodes: He could be 2 inches shorter and he's still be a hard running, skillful midfielder who's hard to match up on.

the one that worries me is 187 - 192
