Well well well...

This seems to be an opportunity for us. If we really do want to follow Hawthorn's model, this could be our chance. Pick 1 and 4, similar to 2004.

Anyway, I doubt anything will happen because I doubt we have anything Port Adelaide wants.

Thinking the same thing. But still, they seem to be low on key position players with Tredrae and Cornes coming to the end of their careers. So maybe something like Bruce, Newton and a late pick for 4? (They could fall for a B&F and MOTY winner!)

But I have a feeling both players are contracted... Besides you would think they would just take a Vickery or Sidebottom with their pick anyway.

Got to love the way Mark Williams operates, throws the rod out with the bait, and waits to see what comes to him. Gives all clubs a chance over the weekend to see what they can do in terms of getting either picks 4 and 22.

What can Melbourne offer?

Well some are suggesting or alluding to on forums in light of last night's B&F players such as Nathan Jones, Aaron Davey and Daniel Bell.

Others are top 3 place getters Bruce and Green.

As we know, Green still has not signed.

There is interest in Daniel Bell.

With 72 hours to go until the bell rings for the start of trade week, the Demon heirarchy will no doubt be rolling up their sleeves and be looking at all options.

Would Brad Green get Pick 22?

Or Green + 17 for 4? I can dream.

I'd rather hold on to him, and the problem with Greeny is he is not rated because of the side he is in.

I don't Mark Williams is after anyone from our team, we really don't have anyone.

Would Brad Green get Pick 22?

Maybe. But I think we will sign him up again shortly. Having come 3rd and winning leadership award.

A/ Would Nathan Jones and pick 67 get pick 22?

B/ Or Aaron Davey and pick 35 for pick 4?

Just putting it out there guys... Put yourself in Mark Williams position.

edit: Maybe just Nathan Jones (minus pick 67)

The attraction:-

A/ Picks 1,17,19,22,35,51

B/ Picks 1,4,17,19,51,67

Or both deals! :D

1,4,17,19,22,51

Hmm, after about pick 5 nothing is guaranteed, I know it's a deep draft but not worth tearing the club apart for.

Jones has questionable disposal so other clubs wouldn't rate him that highly; Davey is our only marketable player. Melbourne and West Coast are sides with really nothing to trade.

What about Dunn in a trade deal?

Played great tagging roles this year.

Would anyone from other clubs value him??

I have had high hopes for him for a while (still do) but would consider trading him plus 19 for pick 4.

Or am I stupid?????

Davey is not the 'only marketable player' at melbourne at present.

Massively deep this year (the draft), been described at the camp that the 32 best draftees are all worthy of top 16 selections. If you had picks 1,4,17,19 or 1,17,19,22 or even 1,4,17,19 and 22 (far fetched I know), surely you would get enough marketing in return , if not more.

You wouldn't tear the club apart, we survived Woey and TJ's departures. Tough decisions need to be made otherwise we will tread water...again.

The Hawks made tough and ruthless decisions a few years back. With the list we have now we're in a similar position but not the same position. We need to "tweak" during trade period to come up with the best picks going forward into the draft, this draft. And top up again next years draft.

I am sick of fellow Dee supporters not wanting change for our club. Those who want to go with the status quo, that don't want to tinker at the risk of "tearing the club apart". If that is the case they may as well shut the doors for success.

how good is trade week.. haha

but seriously the best part is at about 3pm Friday... when the deals are done.

up to 3pm Friday we will here heaps of garbage, but that garbage keeps us happy...

There is a 99% chance that we wouldn't be able to satisfy Port enough to land Pick 4. We simply don't have anyone they really want other than untouchable players. BUT... if you could land Pick 4 somehow you could get the Watts/Vickery package much like the Franklin/Roughead deal that the Hawks got 4 years ago.

We can dream.

Sorted: Daniel Bell and pick 35 for Pick 4

if they want him, could happen

we need to do something to get that pick 4, or pick 22

Why? In a STRONG draft, why would they give us Pick 4 for a player who had a terrible season and a pick in the third round?

We're on the same wavelength BB.

If Port Adeliade are prepared to put Pick 4 on the table, and this draft runs deep, mousey is right we should seriously look at getting pick 4.

A Naitanui or Vickery could be available at pick 4. Therefore a class ruckman/forward which is also what the club needs and could solve our problem in the ruck, esp. now that Warnock looks to be going to Carlton.

The draft runs deep wiseblood. Not like previous drafts.

Bell in 2007 had a great year until he injured his hammy

not too many hard at it half backs like him. only thing is his disposal, then agan when have backman been good kicks?

warnock doesn't need a good kick- you need to spoil and mark.

either bell or dunn, and pick 35. it's a deep draft, and stranger things have happened (ie cameron wood for pick 14)

Absolutely spot on Dalrot.

Someone else wrote that Bell plus pick 35 = pick 35. Thats about it.

And Port would trade pick no 4 to get it?

FFS, some posters have no idea about trade week and must think other Clubs are utter dunces.

explain these to me then

Cameron wood for pick 14

Chris Judd for pick 3 and Josh kennedy???

there have been some other shockers

don't be surprised

Pick 35 is still considered a good pick. Not like previous drafts.

Some people under estimate other clubs thoughts on players such as Daniel Bell. Perhaps a Nathan Jones and Pick 35. And if its not pick 35, it might take Pick 19 to do it.

edit:

Knockers/critics can put forward suggestions anytime...

Collingwood paid over his worth because they needed a ruckman - BADLY! He was the only one on the market and they paid it in good faith that he will turn out to be a good player. He hasn't done anything to warrant that yet.

Carlton had the Eagles over a barrell with the Judd deal. They go more picks than just Pick 3 (Pick 19 as well?). Just like we had to take Pick 18 for Jeff Farmer all those years ago. He was worth more than that, but what could we do? Just like Judd he was out of contract and we had to take what we could get.

I'll be VERY VERY VERY surprised if Port took Bell and Pick 35 for Pick 4. They might do it for Pick 22 but I still wouldn't be too sure of that.

or. player/pick35/pick 51. that would certainly do it. or two players and a pick

all i can say is that the dees will be dangling things out to see what they can do in an attempt to get another top 20 pick, ie last year with trav. i know we have 1.17, 19.. but ideally the club wants to bolster its youth stocks as much as it can. and word is that we will try to get another pick around 20

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
