26. John Meesen [200cm 97kg 20.06.86 - 0 games 0 goals] – The big ruckman brought into the club after two games in three seasons with Adelaide but he failed to fire any shots in 2008. He has another two years on his contract and many are wondering why he was given so much time to prove his worth.

This may well go down as the worst list management decision of all time. I'm not that concerned about the draft pick we coughed up, but the fact that he got a three year deal is laughable.

Posted

remember the raves about his running ability during pre-season? One must ask WHY he wasn't given any games in 2008 during one of the bleakest periods in the clubs modern history. If it was because the coach didn't think he had anything to offer. well... what the hell!!!! If it was because he was down on confidence and form due to injury etc. etc. then let's hope to God he makes massive inroads in 2009. Otherwise, one of the worst selections this decade!

Posted

It's because he was playing like crap at Sandy, and in the end was overtaken by the rookie Spencer. All the running power in the world doesn't count for squat if you don't work hard and don't know how to apply your skills.

If he doesn't show anything at all again next year, the club will be faced with a real dilemma. Delist him and pay out the third year, or have him waste a spot on the list for a year?

I doubt it. Faced with a year (2010) in the Casey 2's will see him retire and move on. Pride has to step in if you're a laughing stock.

(And just to beat others to it, I think the same will apply to Chopper in 09. Faced with a year in the Casey 2's, I expect he will come to an arrangement with MFC and move on.)

I must confess..have only seen him in less than a handful of games.... and if you could wrap medicore, uninspring, slow, non-impact, over-rated , lost at see, seemingly disinterested al linto one bloke...then ladies and gentlemen you have John Meesen.

Now for all I know there may be .some genuine talent in there somewhere but for all the world its tied up tighter than Houdini.

Now who was the f*%#@! who signed this guy to his current contract ?? HE ought to be paying this guy...not the MFC !!

or maybe he's a just a s.......l...............o.................................................w starter !!

Was CAC in charge of contracts and list-management in October last year. If so, then he takes responsibility for Meeson getting 3 years.

Yes, and yes.

So does this mean that those people who kept heaping praise on CAC for no apparent reason (other than that he was a nice guy who occasionally posted on this site) have finally realized what a dud he was?

Posted

Maybe we can wrap him up and deliver him "free" to Punt Road.....with an all yours.. you foot the bill now !!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
