just being purely sarcastic.

we would need a fantastic deal to offload a proven performer albeit an injury prone one.

as stated previously he is of more value to us at the moment than what would be offered.

How do you know what's offered?

More value than what? = nothing for 2 years.

Nobody will pay what he's really worth to us because of his injuries.

Trading him for a speculative second round pick will do nothing for our future. We have to hope he can get himself right, because there is no doubting that he is an absolute gun when he's fit and the possibilities of playing him up forward or as a rebounding defender are endless (especially given we're developing other defenders).

Two years in the big scheme of things is not the end of the world. Sylvia missed nearly as much football as Rivers has.

Possibly just me but those two things look remarkably alike. I too would like a fit and in form Rivers. I just wonder as to the likelyhood of this. Whilst we're dealing in of speculation'.....what will we be thinking if he breaks down again next year mid season..and all 'hope" of realising any value agianst him is dashed ? Its just a what if !! A what if with some history and legs !!

His value is at his lowest . . . . why would you trade him now? Think you guys are going a bit overboard with the whole draft pick flu that is going around. I mean look at Scott Gumbleton, before the draft he was all that, and he can't get on the park. A 2nd round draft pick (which we wouldn't get anyway) would probably be a lesser player then Rivers.

Moloney and Rivers, our 'when they're fit' brigade. Aptly abbreviated to WTF.

Playing devil's advocate a bit here, but his value will be lower - read 'zero' - if he fails to regain fitness next year.

That said, I can't see a trade happening.

He has had OP for the past two years. His trade value is significantly compromised. I cant see an upside in trading him.

Lets get him fit and on the park first.

Did anyone read the Dermott Brereton article in today's HUN about the kind of players required to build a team tough enough to Flag?

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl...6-19742,00.html

I agree with their recruiting rationale, and believe MFC should adopt a similar drafting strategy rather than the usual skinny boys we take.

Rivers does not fit our requirements going forward, is too injured to fit, if not injured, not strong enough to fit.

TRADE!!

Well..I'l lsay it now..If he pulls up lame after the Preseason..or cant make it through it.. then he's of no pratical value to the club whatsoever.. All the bleeding hearts >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Same goes for any player that spends more time in sick bay than on the park..I ask you..what is the point..Are we runnign a footy club with spirations nursery??

I wil repeat for those that dont get it..:

A fit and in-form Rivers is an absolute gem and an assett to the team...anything less is a waste of time, money and a player spot.

He is young and he will get his body right. Same as for Moloney! Two long term players.

How do you KNOW that ?? some NEVER get their bodies right..just IS . They both watched more games than they have played now for years !! Just how long is a reasonable time to hold someone on 100's of thousands a year ??

Makes no sense to me...An awful shame if their potential is never realised..but thats a very possibly outcome at the moment.

We need to be realistic.. not dreamy about all this !!

Rivers and fourth round draft pick to St Kilda

David Armitage and second round draft pick to Melbourne.

We would net picks 1, 17, 19, 31 and 36 plus a 200 gamer young gun in Armitage

OR

Rivers and third round draft pick to Port

Adam Thomson and Port's second round draft (22) pick to Melbourne

Option 2 would net us picks 1, 17, 19, 22 and 51. Pretty handy picks!

Please note, my preference is for Rivers to stay, but I would be open-minded if options like the above are entertained. I'm getting a little tired of some MFC players continually on the sidelines.

No doubt KEEP!

The guy is class personified and when up an running is the key to our backline stability. I know its good practice to assess all possibilities but this trade is off the

table in my book. We need players of his quality, we just need to know how to get his body right.

reality check

Rivers.. 6 seasons ..played 70 of a potential 132 games. Of course this was due to injury ( and result form )

But thats the whole point

last two seasons.. 9 out of 44

Nobody wants to look at this.. its he's all class.. hes a great player..etc etc yadda yadda yada.. Yes he is..

and he doesnt get to the park !!

which bit of this escapes peoples attention ??

Sorry..the all powerful caveat...but when he's fit !! ..Just when is that ??

I would like him in the 18 as much as any... if only

trade him whilst we can. Its plain common sense.

Hindsight will validate

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
