well?...

It was ok, nothing new. Talked about the MCC a bit and how they have responded well to the 'tick a box' option to renew. Mentioned they need Melbourne members to renew now rather than later - to that I say - "send me my membership info, can't renew without it!"

Too bloody true !!

Always amuses me..( In an annoying fashion ) that we cant immediately purchase memberships for 2009..before Christmas hits and we're playing catch up footy with the bills for months after..lol.

Offer a wee incentive to do so..even tao part payment with a small discount or even 2 pens !! ( joke..!! ) but have this option available NOW !!

I agree Suzanna..all very well asking us to do it...but we cant !! Bloody stupid if you ask me .

Remember a couple of years ago all early renewals would get their name in the season guide? At the time, my daughter was still going to the footy & got a real buzz out of seeing her name in the book. It would have cost the club very little, and if it encouraged early renewals, then I think it was good value. Little stuff like that could be on offer. It doesn't have to cost the club much, but often that little feeling of 'belonging' means more than stickers or souvenirs!

In Melbourne for a brief period so for once was able to tune in.

As previously mentioned, a pretty straight forward interview but good of Jim to be on I think.

- Debt demolition: Stated that $3million raised already and hoping to be close to debt free before the start of next season.

- Spoke of the past rift between MCC/MFC, but that the new board was seeking a closer bond. He mentioned that the MCC had responded well to the new board and were being very co-operative.

- Also mentioned that a good number of people were coming back to the Club, past players included. mentioned the Mates of melbourne initiative which seems to have had a good response.

- Mentioned a meeting that he had with the AFL regarding our clash jumper. Appartently our jumper clashes with 5 other teams. In the meeting it was agreed that us having a red clash jumper is indeed an option. There was the possibility that our jumper might clash with one other team and if this is found to be the case we might come up with a "one off" alternate jumper. AFL were happy, it would seem, for us to have a predominately red clash jumper.

- When asked what Dee fans had to look forward to in 2009 Jim mentioned the opportunity for us to see an exciting group of players continue to develop. He singled out Jack Grimes who he believes is going to be a great player. Said we were looking to draft some exciting "kids" and suggested that we were really gathering a group to develop as a team.

Hope your as excited as I am about the long term future of the club. 2009 to be another year of development.

Long term PLAYING future is just about all we have to look forward to, because short term is very painful! Interesting that he aims for us to be close to debt free by the start of the 2009 season. We must be living off homebrand all the way!

2009 will be alright. i still think that getting rid of players that played years under daniher is the way to go, because half our team were getting the message from bailey. a year of learning what dean wants- a ful proper pre season, and we will have a much better year- we might finish 16th- but if we win 6 or more next year, i'll take it

A lot of people here wouldn't agree with you there, especially if we finished 16th again. Way i figure it, i'm not going to get upset about something i can't control. I'll celebrate our wins, and dissect the issues in our losses.

I expect marginal improvement, but we're a young side, and that being the case i don't think it'll happen over night.

Bloody oath. Show me where to sign Jimma...alternatively, ring the club and do it over the phone people!

I think renewals will be sent out in October.

yeah i think it was about that time last year. I know renewals are always sent out pretty early as they usually offer you the membership at this years price instead of the new price if you pay before a certain date.

I have paid for 2009 membership already as part of the MCC deal. I have even received a letter from Jim saying all the goodies will be sent out before christmas.

I too have paid for my 2009 membership with the mcc deal but have not received anything regarding the goodies....

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
