Is Sam still coaching at MFC? I didn't think he was, but thought I would check.

Will he get the sack after this latest contovesy? Was it blown out of proportion?

No he isn't. Was helping Whitey at one stage. I think he should get the sack, he is way out of line and obvioulsy still very willing to cross the line despite his recent hiatus and evidently failed re-education.

No he doesnt anymore. Hasnt been there for a couple of years I thought.

No it wasnt blown out of proportion. I used to erally like Sam and defend him to the death. But now, he has more than over stpped the mark. He may not be directly responsible for the hospitalisation of the MP, but is definatly contributed.

And for the FS, to try and defend his comment yet again.....

"The family of distressed Tasmanian Government minister Paula Wriedt has flatly rejected speculation that her emergency hospitalisation was linked to talk by television personality Sam Newman."

Since we're speculating, perhaps it could be the straw that broke the back, but I imagine the political and family pressures cited by the family are the major factors.

I think people need to get off their high horse. You have no idea if he meant the words to come out like that, Sam isn't exactly well known for constructing sentences properly.

Move on, the MP had a personal phone call from Sam on the night apologising, she accepted and said she didn't believe he meant any harm.

To make any connection between Sams comments and her attempted suicide are foolish at best. She has been having serious realtionship and family issues. I highly doubt an off camera remark that could be taken in more ways than one would make someone kill herself, give her some credit, she is stronger than that.

Whilst it is debatable, Newman will stay because Ch9 and the Footy Show want good ratings.

It's a shame the situation happened for the Minister's sake, Sam should of been more careful. He has apologised, the MP has accepted his apology.

Gee I dunno there HT. She accepted his apology and then tried to top herself 72 hours later???

As far as I know there is no full-time ruck coach at the club at the moment.

It was mentioned around the media that Luke Darcy has spent a bit of time recently

helping out some of our ruckmen.

She did accept his apology. But it would of caused her major embarrassment thanks to the media blow up. She has been reportedly suffering from post natal depression according to her family, but as Rogue said, "it could of been the straw that broke the camels back"

How about we just don't speculate the reasons behind someone attempting to end their life? Yeahhhhh good idea.

 Just stating what was reported.

Not at all mate - it was however reported in the hun today that she was having an affair and it was about to be made public. For some people a culmination of things can get all a bit too much. Hope she recovers. Thats all.

I've never really had a problem with Sam (granted I only ever watch the first half of the footy show). At times he seems like an idiot, and is often not funny, but there's nothing I've seen him do that has been that bad (apart from that airline midget skit - thought that overstepped a bit).

She was quite happy to get on t.v and take some good publicity so really not sam's fault at all.

I cant work out why people continually have a go at sam! I mean if you dont like a comedian you dont sit down and watch them every week do you. People are to politically correct now a days. i thought it was very funny even if he meant to say it. Dont like it turn off and stop whinging!!!! I suppose sad people needed to sook about something now BB is off air.

I don't watch the footy show for sam newman, I watch 'cause there's not much else on & I like the footy content & hearing the players thoughts.

The last few years it's become, (since eddie departed it) the newman show. He got a payrise & an inflated ego, even more than before.

I've gone from admiration of sam years back to detesting the fool.

I can't say that I agree the Sam Newman is a comedian, or that he doesn't know exactly what he is saying - remember he is a Geelong Grammar old boy, and would have graduated at a time when grammar was taught quite thoroughly. He knew exactly what he was saying, and was about as sorry about it as he was about the last incident (ie: not at all). Newman is incapable of thinking or talking about women as anything other than objects for his sexual gratification, and even if he was funny, he is uneccessary as a football identity. This show is supposed to be entertainment based on a football theme, how can jokes which demean and objectify individual women fit it with this?

I usually only turn the FS on when I think they will be discussing the Melbourne game - since we get so many Sunday games it is fairly safe to watch Law & Order and then turn over to catch the last bit of the show, usually just in time for the Melbourne match. However, I did watch the show when Newman was off air and Billy Brownless was on, I think BB is a lot funnier - his humour is certainly nowhere near as nasty as Newman's. I would watch the show in its entirety if BB was on every week instead of Newman. I just hate the bits such as Street Talk when Newman tries to be funny by poking fun at other people - he often seeks out the 'challenged' who don't really catch on that he is laughing at them.

For those who have Foxtel - there are alternatives to the Channel 9 offering that are far more informative. Try the Marngrook (don't know if I spelt it right) Footy Show (indigenous network - focusses on the indigenous players but also discusses the game as a whole and goes through each match of the weekend) or League Teams (goes through each match without the rubbish in between that is supposed to be entertainment).
