MCC Elections - MFC implications

MCC members have been sent material to vote in the election for the committee. There are 4 candidates for 3 spots, with 3 standing for re-election.

My thoughts are that it is good to have people on this body who are well disposed to the MFC, particularly at this crucial time. Candidates are Will Fowles (a disclosed Demon), Peter Dakin, David Crow - sitting members - and Colin Beames, son of MFC legend Percy Beames.

Does anyone know the form of these in relation to the MFC?

Unfortunately, why should they? They're on(or aspiring to) the Board of a Cricket Club, with no official ties to the MFC. One hopes to vote in Committee members who are sympathetic to the Demons, though they have a responsibility to act impartially. It's certainly better than having MCCC C'tee members, who don't like the Dees. Worse still, a Collingwood FC backing faction. Perish the thought!

It seems that the MCC is pretty benevolent to the Pies, but obviously it has to act in the financial interests of the Club.Unfortunately, Collingwood always wins on that consideration.

I don't know for sure, but I think all these candidates do barrack for the Demons. Perhaps it's to our benefit to have the younger candidate, Fowles, on the board,since our membership drive is,I think, toward that sector.

No! Paul Sheahan is a Geelong supporter.

I'm not sure if all the other committee members are Dee's supporters (but of course Steve Smith played for us!)

No way can MCC committee people be counted on to support the Dees any longer.

Tim is right to raise the question.

Stephen Gough - not strictly committee but CEO - has a long affiliation with Carlton and the MCC is driven more by commercial considerations than sentiment so some may not give a damn if we are sent interstate or whereever because of our relatively smaller crowds.

All the stories earlier this year about our financial crisis mentioned that the MCC was cutting back its financial subsidy too. From $500,000 to $200,000. That might have changed post Jimmy but I don't think they can be counted on.
