Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Where did all the flags go?

Kiss of Death

Recommended Posts

After the wonderful initiative of handing out all the MelbourneFC flags to supporters over the past few weeks, i was amazed at how few i saw waving at the Dome yesterday, particularly considering the beautiful sight at the G on Queens Birthday with all the 'walk to the G' flags. It was a horrible feeling watching the hundreds of flags the toiges fans were waving, compared to the measly supply of red and blue ones. Maybe I missed quite a few (i was sitting on level 3 slightly to the left of the cheer squad) however it did look quite bare on the wings and the rest of level 3.

Perhaps we can issue some small/midsized flags instead of pens for members next year? Scarf and a flag? It's a much more visual way of showing your support and supporting the boys on the day that it really matters (gameday), and not only would it be much more inspiring looking at a sea of red and blue in the stands for the players, it would also make it much more exciting for the spectators (and dare i say drag a few more people to the grounds wanting to share in the atmosphere).

Where did they all go?

(PS mine is currently wedged in the tv cabinet to remind all and sundry that this is Demon territory).

I thought the turn out by Melbourne supporters was embarrassing. A crowd of 27,000 and 20,000 of those would have been Richmond. I felt like we were an interstate team. When are supporters of this club going to come week in week out, instead of just when the club calls for them.

I realise it was a poorly timed game, but even so, make an effort, I was home in the Eastern suburbs by 8:00pm and I stayed for the whole match. I refuse to believe that time could be a factor.

It wasn't our home game right? So we don't receive any less money?

Also, if they really want us to turn up STOP GIVING US SUNDAY GAMES! A Saturday arvo, or either night game would make for a better turn out, and as someone on 'ology said, I'm kind of glad we voted with our feet... or lack thereof.

Pathetic response. This is EXACTLY why we are known (and rightly so) to have fickle supporters!

Sunday game did not stop 80,000 going to Carlton v Collingwood. Sunday games don't stop other teams drawing big crowds on Sundays.

Yes, Sundays can be annoying, understandably, but to continually use it as an excuse and to say you are glad we didn't show up?!? Well you wont be so glad when the club goes under. Why the hell should the AFL grant us prime time game slots when we don't show up for such lame reasons?

It's nothing short of embarrassing that Melbourne supporters "don't like Sunday games" or "don't like going to the Dome"... Statements like these really get me going and back up what opposition supports think of us.

I was there on Sunday, with my flag! I was in the nose bleed section Aisle 32 surrounded by foul mouthed Tigger supporters. Flag was out everytime we got the ball.

Spot on Stylus, i understand that people have family commitments, job commitments and that sorta thing but for you Dan, to say that it was an inconvenient time is frustrating. Yeah, I live in Mill Park, yes it's not much of a ride on a train to get to my car to drive the rest of the way home. I can understand those that are a 2 hour train ride away but for metro residents there is no excuse for not going to a Sunday twilight game, appart from the abovementioned. As Stylus said "This is exactly why we are known as fickle supporters."

If you want to be known as a Melbourne supporter, then bloody well show it and stop making [censored] POOR EXCUSES!!! Thats not just directed at you Dan, but all those that think like you!

That Rubbish Dappa. MFC supporters dont turn up to games......period. Its head in the sand stuff that draws satisfaction from MFC supporters not attending games. Brilliant.

i was in aisle 34 didnt see any melb flags around me yet there was a couple of us spaced around could hear the odd yell, yes it was embarassing to sit and watch the second quater onslaught they gave us.

Doubt having flags to a game will bring people in winning games will do that.

Poor turn up thats all i can say

I was in aisle 33, a had a couple of Melbourne supports around me but it was dominated by Richmond fans. Early in the first quarter a group of very loud Tigers fans said how pathetic it was that the Melbopurne fans didn't turn out. I wanted to challenge him and give him a snappy retort, but what the hell could i say?

I'm not usually in the business of having a go at our turn outs, but FFS it doesn't matter if it's not our home game, it doesn't matter if it's at the Dome, and it doesn't matter if it's the crappy twilight timeslot, if it's in Melbourne and you can go you get your butt out there, then show some effing passion for your team.

I hate constantly being disgusted with my fellow Dees fans, i would've thought after Jimmy Stynes' passionate plea last week our fans might actually get out there to the game, but again we prove why we are and for the near future always will be at the bottom rung of the financial ladder.

I am pretty sure i heard that guy too Pates, thats was the same guy that kept complaining about "number 12 umpire" and "get a rule book baldy" right?

Sounds about right, mind you we certainly got the rub of the umpires so i think there would've been plenty of Tigers fans saying something similar!

I picked up a free flag outside, but by the time I got a seat on the third level, surrounded by random Richmond supporters, I found that waving my flag would just result in obscuring the views of the people in front, to the side and behind me.

Telstra Dome is a crap stadium devoid of any atmosphere, and yes it doubles up as a morgue during the week (why the hell is it always so much colder in there?!), but if your team is playing, you need to come and support them. Who cares if you have to freeze to death, be surrounded by ferals and sit so far away the players look like ants, it's football and it's Melbourne and it's worth it just to see Garland, and Morton and McLean and Davey etc etc....

The game felt like I was in Adelaide watching a match, being abused by one-tooth hobos.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
