Jimmy was on The Footy Show last night and was interview by Hutchy. It was an entertaining interview even though Jimmy didn't give away too much, but something made me think.

Hutchy asked something in the vacinity of, "Will the Melbourne Football Club remain in Melbourne forever."

Jimmy hesitated (or pondered, if you will), and then responded with (along the lines of), "As long as I'm here it will."

That might not sound all that bad, but I compared that answer with an answer Brawshaw gave last year to a similar question. He said, "North Melbourne will always be North Melbourne." Him and his board were so confident that North could get out of its hole and it has (so far). It was like as if they were certain. I'm sure that anyone who heard the response last night may think the same.

I have no doubt Jimmy is confident that Melbourne will get out of its troubles and remain in Melbourne, but I definetly felt angst in his response.

Personally, I think the situation is far worse then we think and Jimmy himself has recognised how hard it's going to be. I think we're in a real hole and we're hardly out of the woods. Jimmy has the heart and skill to fix us, but that doesn't necessarily mean he will.

I have this sad feeling in me that Jimmy has glanced over this club, or heard through the grape vine, and seen how bad and on the brink we are, and I think this had to do with him hitting the wall and being so emotional at the press conference.

I really, really think we're in trouble. I'm not being critical or pointing figures, but I think there is a far steeper mountain to climb then a lot of us think. I sincerely believe we are on the brink of collapse.

My gut twisted a bit at that moment too.

But Jimmy seems like an honest, realistic man, and obviously things are worse than we all know. It's better than being in denial if you ask me. "We're called Melbourne so we won't go anywhere" I hear this, even my uncle whom is the reason I follow the Dees said this to me. [censored], if we have to leave Melbourne, merge, or worse, it's going to happen no matter how long we've been the Melbourne Football Club.

Jimmy knows it can happen, and the people on his board know it, that's why I've got faith they'll do their best to turn it around, even though I've not yet heard their plans and goals.

that was simply a truthful, never say never answer... nothing more...

to acknowledge that the club is in such a precarious financial position, yet categorically say that there is no possibility whatsoever that melbourne won't relocate or merge would be naive...

his plans and goals are to avoid such situations... but he can't say for certainty what will happen in the future... only his intentions for the club, and the vision of where he wants to take it...

Got to admit that I thought the "As long as I'm here it will" comment was eerie. Non MFC supporting mates also mentioned that they thought it was strange.

I wanted to hear, "The MFC will ALWAYS be in Melbourne".

I would say at the moment it is 50/50 that the our club may not be in Melbourne by 2015

That is why it is up to everyone involved to rally around the club and prove to all the knockers that we will be Melbourne forever!!

That is totally uncalled for mate. He is just worried about how dire our situation is. You can talk positive all you like see how far that gets you. What we need is people actually doing something. Combine this with a postive attitude and we might get somewhere. I'm sure calabreseboy is backing Jimmy in, all he is saying is that our situation may be worse than we think and pointing this out can only be a good thing. The more people who come to grips with how deep a hole we are in the more people we have doing whatever they can to get us out of it.

We ARE in serious financial trouble and have been for some years. We are more heavily reliant on AFL money as a % of our total revenue than other Clubs.

It is not set in stone that we stay in Victoria.

Its up to the AFL what happens to us.

We have limited time to justify financially why we continue to survive in our current form/structure and our current location.

Supporters need to take the blinkers off and realise our situation.

Jimmy was very clear in saying he'd wait until looking at the books until he came out with what he was going to do.

It sounds like the figures that have been put around in the media aren't showing the full extent of the financial difficulties we face.

In terms of the "as long as I am here" comment you may be reading a bit too much into it, at the same time, no one should downplay just how real the possibility is that the MFC won't survive in Melbourne.

While we may or may not have been in a worse financial position in 2003, our competitors are going from strengths to strength - West Coast have 50,000 members, North have 35,000 are are redeveloping their home, the Dogs have a 12 million dollar redevelopment of Whitten Oval, Hawthorn have 40,000 members, Richmond and St.Kilda have set homes and more than 30,000 members, while we are languishing well behind.

Given that everyone knows about the club debt and the projected loss of $1.5m, I was just wondering if there is any reason to think that things really are worse than this or are these fears just based on "thruthiness"?

The AFL has someone looking at our books constantly. It's a condition of receiving money from the ASD. It's the new guys on the board who need to come to grips with the situation and develop straregies to deal with it. You can't do that until you are official office-holder on the board. There's nothing mysterious about any of it.

The problems are well know. Its a matter of finalising numbers. The overall strategies should be altered as a consequence as the problems remain the same.
