Im truly excited about this bloke..

Ive been watching him very closely, and boy does he look the part down at FB!!

He can run, jump, and knows where to poistion himself in 1 on 1 contests.. IMO the best FB prospect going round and a real key to the future!!

He can play on talls, smalls, medium types, so with Rivers (if he EVER gets hids body right) holding CHB, if not i have a graet feeling bout Big martin, who they are grooming for a Key defensive post..all the attention turns towards CHF & FF!!

Miller is short term, but just doesnt have enough impact, tries hard though..

AS for Full forward, Newton needs 15kg's..

Naitanui could be our CHF, he can play anywehre.. lord i feel bad but, I would die if we dont get him!! but it looks like we almost certainly will!!

THE MODERN FB!!

Im excited.. :D

Its fair to say I am excited.

Especially cos nobody saw it coming.

Its still early days, and he may get a couploe of bags kicked on him as the year closes out, but the seed has been sown. Garland wll be a long term Key backman. About time we found one.

I must say in the first few games I could not see anything good in this kid, he seemed so lost at sea, but these last games he has settled nicely and looks promising.

hate to be negative but your jumping the gun.

Garland has shown a bit but still has a long way to go. He needs to get bigger but he also needs to improve his second efforts. Few times on the weekend he made a good contest then went to ground or was pushed off the ball or just gave up.

Also I think Warnock's form has been equally exciting.

Me too. I have a good feeling about how the backline is starting to come together.

I remember a post on 'land a while ago talking about Garland shutting Neita down completely in a practice match. Looks like he's starting to bring that form into the premiership. Warnock and Garland could be the huge plus points when we look back at the end of this season.

I'm not sold ;)

And nor should you be. Evidence to date, however, suggests he possesses all the physical attributes and seems like a fairly driven young man who doesn't enjoy being beaten. I think he'll be a longstay of our team - the question remains will he simply add to our long list of players who can play on a third tall down back or will he genuinely arrive as a class backman capable of taking on the big boys one on one and keep up with the faster leading full forwards?

Agree. Showing promise and improving with experience and self belief as the coach shows the confidence to play him against the big guns. Ditto for Warnock.

For me it's exciting that they both have pretty good decision making and disposal skills ..... much better than we have seen for a damn long time from our taller defenders (Riv. excepted).

Great credit to Bails for sticking with these kids, in spite of all the knockers. Promise of things to come, especially considering that it usually takes a few years for tall defenders to hit their straps!

Sounds good and looks good but

Will everyone get over Naitanui

We haven’t got him

And if we do come last who says we will go for him.

I swear he is mentioned more than some blokes on our current list!

It was only a matter of time before Carrol was pushed out by better and younger players...

but i do like Garland---

Our future key defenders look quite promising:

Frawley and Martin would potentially take the mammoth forwards

Rivers and Warnock take the big forwards

Garland can take the fast, agile forwards who rely on marks on the lead

The good thing about having 5 young and flexible key defenders is that we have cover. I don't think all 5 of these players will turn out to be awesome key defenders for the next 8 years, but if 3 of them continue their improvement then we are set.

If Rivers, Warnock and Frawley improve then garland could perhaps even be used up forward

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
