  1. With the Giants four goals clear of the Cats (who demolished last year's Premiers in Round 1) at 3/4 time, maybe our Round 1 effort wasn't too bad after all? Does this mean that we are theoretically better than Geelong and Hawthorn or does it mean that Esendon are not the basket case and may in fact challenge a few teams? There is always a positive spin (though I did not envisage one as I left the "G" yesterday)! p.s. Remember that although the Gold Coast beat the Bombers in Round 1, they backed this up with a convincing win over Freo (at Subianco) in Round 2.
  2. Ranked 28 in the player rankings for the match (on 61 with Kyle Cheney) and 17 possessions (Cheney 13). Not exactly stellar but not as bad as some others.
  3. 6. Kennedy 3. N. Jones 1. Watts (for ten minutes)
  4. Maybe we could get Danks to drop by with a few drugs and hope that the AFL give us a dozen top-up players? It seemed to work for Essendrug!
  5. Watts wasn't poor by comparison to his teammates but well behind last week's effort. I had Kennedy and Jones amongst our better players but Essendon made everyone look bad. I despair fronting up against North next week with this lot.
  6. I am more or less serious as I live in East Melbourne. I will be in the queue when the Member's Reserve opens at 11.30am.
  7. I'm pacing around the "G" waiting for the gates to open in two hours.
  8. Final eight this year, Top four next year and grand final in 2018 (with an outside chance next year as well). We are on our way to becoming a power Club again and will win successive Premierships with the list that we are putting together!
  9. I hope that PETRECCA plays as well as Petracca has been playing in the Practice matches!
  10. Mountain View (also in Richmond) is a good venue to watch interstate (or Etihad) matches. As Barassi's old pub, it also has a tenuous MFC connection of sorts.
  11. Personally I think that every Club should have only one jumper and change the colour of their shorts if playing away. If it is good enough for Collingwood it should be okay for every other team, especially when we can wear red socks to avoid confusion. Gone are the days of the mud patches in the centre and goal squares which turned white shorts into black by game's end. It worked for the first century of our game (including the advent of Black & White television) so it would still work now. (But of course advertising revenue would be down, something far more important to the modern game than tradition!)
  12. The only Melbourne player to get a gig in the AFL "team of the week", and there are still Demonlanders prepared to question his value to our team!
  13. The only Melbourne player to get a gig in the AFL "team of the week", and there are still Demonlanders prepared to question his value to our team!
  14. Unfortunately for some (me included) it requires Adobe Flash which is not supported on iPad.
  15. We will need to win by a healthy margin to catapult past the Dogs and the Swans to the top of the ladder. (Maybe then and only then will some of the football commentators have to concede that maybe just maybe we might finish the year higher than the fourteenth position that most of them predicted!)
  16. More often than you think. That's why they give you the away teams when you forget to submit your tips. Shame that I was too late for this particular tipping competition as l picked 9/9 last weekend in the sole tipping competition that I am in!
  17. Thanks! A great interview from the fat kid!
  18. It wouldn't happen if Collingwood was playing Essendon on ANZAC Day, despite fact that both teams are hopeless! How are we expected to build our brand and membership base without getting an equitable share of free-to-air broadcasting? Nor is it good value for their advertisers playing two interstate teams from the same (smallest) state!
  19. RD I fully concur with your summary response. Thanks for saving me the post.
  20. Enjoyed being at the game but nervous at three quarter time due to the fact that they were not only ahead in the score but had so many extra scoring shots. One negative that I noticed today was that whenever there was a pack going for a mark, Gawn persisted in punching the ball instead of using his height to clunk the mark. It happened too often and he has shown at training that he can take these contested marks.
  21. Maybe he can train/mentor JKH?
  22. Can't wait to see the young brigade of Oliver, Petracca and Brayshaw debut against Collingwood in Round 4. Only thing more exciting will be JT's return to the "G"!
  23. We are in the unique position next year when we are well and truly in our Premiership window and I suspect that some of our key/star players may re-sign for less to remain part of it.
  24. Or Parish if Essendon had of won. For the sake of Clarry, we just have to keep winning.
  25. Yes, 21 disposals, including 8 contested possessions at 95% disposal efficiency. Perhaps we should be looking at someone else before Jones?
