MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 13
dpositive replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'd bring in Spencer. He's shown that he can be very agile and add to the contest. Being a big body he can create a bit more space for our mids. Pedersen play CHF and provide a contest with his larger body to do the same thing. Weed to start at FF and Watts to interchange. Bugg probably did enough -
Yep know more next week We can win them all just need the players to recognise that. They play with the same endeavour and determination for 4 quarters that they display for some periods and the coaches select and set strategies for specific opponents. What could be easier?

I doubt Jack is feeling any pain. That look shown in so slow motion was almost arrogance and yet it was vindication, redemption and satisfaction all on naked display. When the pain kicks in he will hopefully have that feeling of supreme confidence shown to him to appreciate what he has done. That moment could well be worth showing his teammates as an inspirational culmination that the job can be done. This is not the end of the beginning or the beginning of the end this is the beginning of the beginning

Love all the memories and agree that there have been some beauties. no one has mentioned Mark Jackson or Darren Bennet. Both were sometimes the only highlight in our season and kicked some amazing goals.

On previous post I mentioned The Saturday paper. Wouldnt be surprised if Flanagan is seen there as he is a wonderful writer. Hope that happens as sport is the one area they struggle

It seems new News is all on constant media Tv news channels and online platforms. Sport is one of the few areas that Print seems to report News. Analysis and opinion are becoming the domain of print. The Sun has always concentrated on the spectacular created news while The Age has concentrated on big picture/ issues.( very thin generalisations. There's totally more than this) The Saturday paper is full of journalists and commentators who excel in the opinion presentation. It provides a compelling option for intellectual reflection. But it ain't News. Read the best music reviews outside of specialist magazines as well. Need to try and vary sources but I certainly enjoy the demonland mix. Plenty of fiction and fact just often requires time to identify which. Some brilliant wit which I am not good on but I have been told I do a nice line in irony.

I was at QB on Wattsday. He was relentlessly double/triple teamed, punched held niggled, pushed off balance, on and off the ball. Everything you expect of a club fearful of a skilled first gamer. The disappointing thing was the lack of support and reaction from his teammates who allowed him and themselves to be intimidated. Would hope we have analysed their team and target the skilled in form players and match them with a determined opponent and concentrate on our best avenues to winning which is by using Watts who is often nvolved in our scoring passages not as an enforcer but as a creator. Let him m play the game he does best not reduce him to a reactionary hit man chasing imaginary targets. Would like the banner to read JUST MAKE SURE to reinforce the message that this win will begin an improved position on the ladder and a new perception of MFC. Reinforce the need to make sure you play the patterns and structures that have been given Make sure you play the ball with the skill you have . Make sure you create opportunities. Make sure you kick truly. Make sure you work hard with your teammates. The win will come GO DEES

THE BOMBERS' DOPING SAGA - THE FAT LADY SINGS
dpositive replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in General Discussion
Wow this is disturbing. Also 31 of the 33 have reached settlement. Hope they had scope for future support should some future disclosures throw up further disturbing events. -
Sorry to interrupt but would appear to be a tautology. Lofty heights would seem to be more of a redundancy Apologies

Free Kick Against Christian Salem in the last quarter
dpositive replied to solly21's topic in Melbourne Demons
I vaguely recall a Melbourne player being was reported and penalised for an attempted trip. Other teams had players who actually tripped players and they were not reported. It may have something to do with effectiveness -
Thanks dc Really need that irony font. I guess my slightly obscure point was that it appears that with his stats he doesn't seem to figure in any consideration for promotion and I constantly am told he is too slow. But you probably got that.

Trengove another slow day.

At the game for a change and a long way off the action with North supporting mates. We were all amazed at the appalling umpires and opined that they had lost control. There were so many incidents that the umpires let go that players from both sides had no restraints. Obvious free kicks were ignored. Most of the frees given were there but so inconsistently applied frustration of spectators and players was assured . MRP should review the whole match but if appropriately rulings were applied North and Melbourne would have fewer players to select from and the umpires panel would be he same
-
Certainly an apt observation from the last two games. Crows forwards were further up the ground and we seemed to hallways have someone behind them to stop the rebound or take the kick forward . North seemed to always carry the ball a bit deeper or had a tall target that we had difficulty matching. In the second quarter we double teamed Brown and North just roamed around for a mis match. Very interesting contrast. We could have won but for a few more lapses that we did not exploit. Got a bit cute when we should have taken first option and we had a bit of difficulty with the inconsistency of umpiring decisions favouring North.

Some good thoughts here as well. My conversation is not only considering membership but growing attendance, growth of the game, and sponsorship. Port are reported as picking up $12 mill in new sponsorship. If the game is televised into China growth can be realised
-
Attended an international tourism briefing recently where consultants talked of "internal internationals" These translate as students and expats who generate visitation from externals. That cohort is apparently growing and does comprise an international who has some engagement and immersion in Australian culture.

Have been saying on this site for many years that we need to put pressure on opposition. We were often off balance and delivering poorly while opponents were delivering better due to no pressure
-
Or if we lose to North this weekend it'll be back to celebrating that we're still the same old Melbourne Bit depressing really Lets tell the boys to win

$4 mill outlaid by AFL Reported that Port acheived$12 mill new sponsorship. Certainly an exhibition match. Both teams playing for 4 points was meant to give more intensity. Better team selection and buy in by clubs would improve the contest and provide a better display Gold Coast are already subsidised so much by AFL they had no incentive. Doggies would try harder coz that's the way they play every game now. It's survival. I wouldn't mind Demons playing with desperation to grow the game we initiated and pick up the first of the privileged market which can only grow. Match of the round televised into China would help and be more effective. I would also like to see the Demons match as the match of the round more regularly. Yes grass roots local footy should also be supported but China represents new money coming into the game. We should be able to spread that new money after making sure we make a profit. Need to monitor and manage gambling impacts very carefully.

I think Frost just helps to give the new dimension to "Churn" the latest coaching strategy employed by Goodie. No longer do you publish a team with players in a fixed position place them there and allow the opposition to match up to negate their strength or exploit their weakness. You put em somewhere on the field and allow them to move around, forward, back, either side, As they train together they are the only ones who know how the "churn" works. I noticed Lewis started it at one point moving around the square to release an extra man forward, he waved his hand and told the next player down the line to move around, after the goal as the ball came back to the centre he moved back dragged the player on the wing back. Both these moves caused the next player in the zone location to move but resulted in an effective attacking and defensive structure. it was great to see this innovative new tactic work so successfully

I have commented in similar vein in the past and agree with most of D14 thoughts. I guess that club administrators do not read Dland. if the club has explored these ideas they should be able to respond . Ie cost or alternative strategies Such a response would also reinforce their actions as part of their strategies.

Vince offered fine for "clash" with umpire
dpositive replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I reckon it was a pure accident hardly noticed at the time on the ground by any of us or Crows supporters BUT it was amazing how the umpier assisted goals dried up for the Crows after that incident -
Beamer opens up about Neeld relationship.
dpositive replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well i will admit i may said we needed a Neeld but ialso said he he'd have to take responsibility Hevwas bloody hopeless and I think that has been shown. it a easy in retrospect but now I see Goodwin has a great mix happening lets hope he Is able to do a beveridge -
Where did that quote come from original?????
