The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
dpositive replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
One of the best young talents in the league. Perhaps other clubs might want a key forwarding WA. Demons need to show the rewards available plying with a team of talent his own age ready to take the next step. Beating the Hawks was an indicator of potential. We have a solid list with even better younger talent coming on. We need to offer a performance based contract that rewards his individual inputs factored with team success. The better the team results the better the membership and marketing income the better the reward. Base salary plus individual increments based on goals kicked or assisted, b&f votes, rating points (tackles possessions etc) factored by ladder position. Get Jesse on board he is seriously good -
P.Roos was a fantastic player, coach and person. I have only ever been in a crowd and witnessed his humility in accepting thanks from individuals in a very personal fashion. He has not saved the club as an individual and is the first to acknowledge that but he has certainly been a(the) most significant part of our survival. He has improved the performance of individuals and teams through his consistency, honesty and transparency. He has set a high bar for all who follow. He must always be remembered as a Demon

The Melbourne Football Club has little to play for this year after succumbing to the Blues last week. However they have everything to play for, for next year. The progress of the team has been obvious and the high point with wins over Hawthorn and Port show that there is a nucleus of performance that can generated into something more meaningful. Will the young and emerging players benefit from another exposure at AFL level, for that is all it will be exposure. Victory will have little reward and loss will have further depletion of spirit. Or does the club concentrate its efforts on Casey and provide the club with a greater chance to enjoy the sweetness of success. A positive finish to what has been another frustrating year would provide some solace to the many weary Demon supporters who will continue to follow the club. Whoever takes the field against Geelong should know exactly what they are playing for, its not the present it is most assuredly the future. In some cases it will be their individual future but it is most certainly the future of this club which is poised on the brink of something. Supporters hope that something is success and will hope to see that manifested with a hard fought win or loss, a blow out after the disappointment of last week is just not acceptable. The club must select the team that will match up and play against a team that is assured of finals participation, they must match them and their clubmates must see them match them. They must see them apply every fibre of their being to match them and they must see them leave the field exhausted. The memory of other matches must be erased and a new standard set, one that will reignite that candle of hope that was snuffed out so easily last week, and burn into a fire of rage for next season.

Lots of good stuff here but The loss we had to have NO This really needed to be the win we had to have. Players should have been set to win this match to take their chances next week and perhaps then a final. I understand we had the young team against the experienced etc and I certainly am not dispirited with the thoughts of the future. But this game was there to win. If we can beat Hawthorn we can beat the Blues. That we didnt is the fault of the coaches. Poor selection , poor preparation , poor game day tactics. I hope they had some reason for not having this team selected with the best match ups and the best tactics against a side below us on the ladder. The coaches need to tell the players that their opportunities are fleeting and they must be grabbed. The coaches need to have the players switched on and delivering to a plan. If the plan isnt working they need to have another plan. If the coaches are happy to accept the outcomes of the inconsistency acknowledging progress I can understand that as a plan. But as a long suffering supporter I have seen too many 6 year plans not reach fruition. Opportunities must be exploited, to be in a position to prolong the season will restore supporters and maybe even grow the next generation. Performances like yesterday A LOSS we had to have NO NO NO. We have lost, we have lost hope, we have lost interest until next season, and if someone tells me then there is a loss we need to have I will say the same thing. We can lose. We will lose. There is a loss we will learn from but there is never a loss we need to have there is only a win we didnt have Oh well you must surely get my drift by now. I am disappointed again.

Hope they show the players this and tell them that this came after pages and hours of supporters consideration. If the players show the same passion as supporters they can get the result

Finals are a new season- Anything can happen The players must focus on beating the blues and then the Cats Coaches must concentrate on getting the players from the squad to understand the significance of these matches and then re focus on the final experience. Every player must be given the chance to experience the final. The exhilaration of participating and the anguish of defeat. This must be a total squad experience and they must hunger for sucess and drive each other to that end. They must watch the victors and their joy (and arrogance) and be told that they too can enjoy the short and long term idolatry that comes with being a premiership player. They must not be rewarded for this years progress and success for the job is not completed. They must be made aware that Essendon etc games have denied them this year and there must be no such lapses next year. They must be made aware that they are in a privileged position, they have support and they have the expectations of many on them But they also have the capacity for greater reward (The last two weeks show that) they must be made aware they are on the doorstep of greatness and they must break that door down. Now they must play for the future by winning the next two matches. They can be reminded of the anticipation that the day at Footscray gave every supporter and player and they can be reminded of the despair of many of those same people at Waverley. They can get some of the players and supporters to the club to speak with the players about the passions that they are responsible for. Its going to be a bloody exciting time for the next few weeks setting up the next few years. Had a brief contact with Dees supporter (md234) on the number plate (just passing through town) and complimented him on his public display of commitment. As two disparate and seperate individuals we were united with the thoughts (and) promise that the next two weeks brings. Let hope it happens Any way just a slow shoe day so must get on with the mundanities of life. GO DEES

Better share this Last year our small supporter group travelled to Adelaide for the Port game and had an as usual great weekend pre match with Robbo met some fantastic d"supporters etc. We were decked out in jackets scarves etc, proud to show our colours In the last quater with the game in the balance Demons streaming to gaol and a bouncing kick. I jumped up to follow the fate of the bounce while next to me my mate also jumped up fists pumped to celebrate in his usual restrained fashion. My eyebrow met his fist and in a haze of blood the goal was scored. I had not had many such injuries but crikey it bled like a geyser. We sought medical attention but the first aid guys were only wiling to offer directions to the Adelaide hospital. We watched the game slip from our grasp in emergency and I blame myself for that loss. the hospital were fantastic and attended us sympathetically and efficiently. However the highlight of the abandonment was as we left the ground, head cradled in blood soaked bandages and in obvious discomfort a Port supporter came up offering comfort. His first words were "Hope it wasnt one of our supporters mate.... "You alright?" Like all clubs there are a myriad of supporters. Hope there were no injuries sustained this year.

better to read something positive than be irrelevant. The significance will be the performance tonight. We must build that consistency that can underpin success.

Unfortunately I believe your qualifications "bizarre" etc may rule out any suggestions on this thread

The highlight for me was the channel 7 captions when the Grand Ol Flag was being played audibly the words of the pies theme song were on the screen. WTF? Seems someone got a bit ahead of themselves. And I didnt see the boys in the circle belting out the song which is a feature of every other telecast.

Ahh that explains my own immunity. I am pleased that a life time of indulgence has proven of some worth. My father always thought that wine drinking was a grandiose and wasted time when there was plenty of beer. He is still a very healthy and active 89 so could it just be the alcohol? Will have to research this more fully in Sydney as a small group of supporters head north for the next encounter unfortunately thats as far as my limited budget will allow. Was pleased to see the Earl has transferred bitcoins and now appreciate the name as the association with BbO ( I dont feel familiar enough to call him Uncle) who I recognised as one of the many on this thread with insight and judgement beyond my own flimsy and tawdry ability. I have travelled to the China years ago and on an expedition to the Great Wall was advised by my guide that the wily Chinese were building a new wall for the Japanese visitors as the real wall was too far from Beijing and their tiny legs could not cope with the original warrior steps. It was an interesting tale which I treated with my usual disdain, however I am wondering if there was some truth in that statement?

Havent heard of this PH Alkaline water before. But could certainly do with that extra energy. As for nasty disease thingies Im sure the hedonistic lifestyle models we are exposed to on this thread provide enough diverse alternatives to ensure said thingies cannot adapt any resistance nor mutate quickly enough to overcome every pleasure we undertake.

Free to Air...are we becoming irrelevant

Cant help but agree there And we could then spend some of the serious money on making sure that Health and Education receive the high end priority stuff. oh and CSIRO and other specific research places. Businesses needing faster or larger download capacity should pay through private providers. It seems there is still plenty of subsidisation occuring to private sector through the charade of public utility -
theres mention that he signed a contract and form has fallen away. Does being dropped affect his payment ? AS I said in the Nev Jetta thread pay for performance can be used to make sure players are hungry for success For the record I dont think he shirked anything just terrible misjudgement in a terrible day.
-
could be the point to setting responsible performance based salaries with long term outcomes based on personal and team success with consideration of factors such as injury. Nev may have improved his performance because he was kept "hungry'. Rookied and not picked up by any one else he had to perform. His personal improvement is certainly testimony to his talent and hard work. Hemingway makes the right points about the altruistic reward and these need to be factored in.however that team success has to be the most important factor in setting a price. That cannot be done in advance. reward future performance in the future not in advance.

Ive seen it happen of course you can also show some of the requirements that the players will need Work hard, concentrate on the task for the full period, respond appropriately to the intensity, enjoy the moment. You know how it goes, youve been supporting the Dees long enough to know how to cope with disappointment.
-
Depends who the boss barracks for. But let them know early that you will be more productive if allowed to go, and if/ when we win you will be ultra productive with a positive attitude that will inspire the company. Of course should we lose you will be ultra productive as you focus on tasks and concentrate on displaying the resilience that all employees need to perform at their maximum.

Top marks to Jack and top marks to Prodee. Hope that Pd continues to post with his usual volumes and we see the continued durability of player supporter and club

I could be a sucker too I agree that we should bring in bigger bodies and more experience, combined with our best young bodies who are wanting to give their best against the best. Rest some for the following games. Viney may have an enforced rest. We need to use the whole squad as they are all so young and learning. They need the exposure to the pace and intensity of senior comp but also we need to recognise that they cant compete at that level every week. I think the selection problem is knowing on Thursday whos going to be really focused at game time Must be the hardest part of the coaches job. I just hope we can match them in some aspects and not get blown out of the water. Time for our better experienced players to show what they can do and for the younger players to see what they will have to do,

Enough incentive provided by Casey win to get the boys focused

thanks to all contributors. Great reports really give a feel for the game Even the Egg & bacon roll Good that this game as reported was played with intensity and good note that some of the boys tasted that Hoping for continued results and reports. Keep up the good work

This is an amazing sequence and does help me understand why I get so frustrated with the umpiring. I also had difficulty with a tackle around the hips that slides down as the player struggles forward and is paid as atrip, or last week when the tackle was applied as the player jumped so a chest high tackle became a trip. While in the back seems to have been removed It is occasionally paid enough to frustrate me perhaps if I saw enough sequence like above I could understand its a skill and trained. Many of the instances seem to be a player putting themselves at risk but they may well be managing it so that they are not. And yet these frees seem to always be given against us while we never benefit. I have said before we need to get the umpires in saying we are confused and we need some lessons as we are obviously not tackling correctly

Thanks Hemingway for providing an antidote to the current pressing time. I also "like people to sense the vitality of youth but also sense the ever present possibility of loss and indeed death." "There are many wise young people and many older people who are unfamiliar with the the term". Obvious and yet curiously rarely stated. Never a truer statement has been included within the offerings of Dland, it is these pearls that keep me gravitating to the site. "I like decency, courtesy and respect." as long as it allows for the rantings we witness here. "I like conversation without personal insult or attack. I despise egotists and boasters." One wonders how you can entertain reading Dland but understand that we can all overcome our distate through viewing of falling/failing standards while conducting ourselves in an unimpeachable fashion. l also " know many young people who share those values just as I know many middle aged and older folks who don't. " They are the collective of Dland that contribute every day. However I think age is important and attitude is what counts. "It is important to understand and learn from history whilst living in the present and giving thought to the future" as every true demon supporter understands more readily than most. And T R&B I am on the cusp of 65 with an attitude that wants that more immediate success while it is still possible but building a strong foundation for the future. I wont be joining Earl and crew but watch their progress with an uplifted sense of pride and hilarity

Dont agree its skills alone.Except perhaps a new skill needed in throwing the ball Its the application of the skills. When you are allowed to run to space and receive get balanced and deliver the skill looks good Ie our players zoning allow too much space and time for opponents to get balanced and find someone. Our players give off and do not shepherd to allow their teammate the time and space to get balanced and composed. Too many times our players flew for the mark and spoiled each other with noone down , The few times we had someone in front and behind to take the spill we did well, Those contesting can make space by taking an opponent out of the play. Create and make space to allow time for skills to be used, when its tight and contested even the dogs were fumbling and not clean, but they were always able to throw it out to their teammate (New skill)

How much football have Demonland members played?
dpositive replied to Nasher's topic in Melbourne Demons
I have posted before but I can claim to have played with 2 brownlow medalists. Bernie Quinlan and Kelvin Templeton. I was a slow 4'11 useless forward pocket whose glory was a speccie off the shouldres of the tallest kid in the school. Unfortunately the impact of the ball at my peak altitude knocked me arse over and i never did kick that one goal. The sports teacher concerned for my wellbeing told me to go and play the game that had a position designed for me Shortstop and Baseball it was, my glorious footy career halted. I did play basketball with Bernie who played centre and my role was to pass to him cut into the key and he would shoot the goal over my head. a moving screen developed from Lindsay Gaze tigers who were coaching one of our finest teammates. Kelvin was a pretty handy tennis player and I dont think he ever beat me coz I was a few years older and he did go to Footscray to train and didnt get much court time after that. I have an interesting story also told before that as he had no one to play with (Lived at Tyers out of Traralgon) he practised by kicking at his house chimney and taking the mark as it bounced off , if he missed he had to run around and collect the ball himself. Became pretty accurate and a good mrk Loved all sports and still play squash at Milawa where the enjoyment level is great. Also play tennis with Graeme Cordy so the footy talk up here has a knowledgable edge.
