i noticed on the random times I went to the footy that there was an innovative forward system where all players lined up in a line from the goal square to the centre. the players then rotated along that line each time a goal was scored. It seemed a random change depending on who was on the field. It meant each forward including Kozzie was in the square. This system did seem to frustrate opposition who were matched up on opponents and often ended up out of position or mis matched in the line . It also allowed players to flare in different directions singly or collectively from the line . Again this disrupted opposition defences. The tactic also squared up our attacks from midfield which could be directed more clearly down the centre in the first instance . I couldnt notice this on TV and dont know if it was a regular system. or maybe it was going to be a surprise tactic to use more regularly in the finals season. . I liked it as it worked well with a tactic I have advocated, the forward churn. this involved players constantly moving around the forward positions to create mismatches. Each player needed to be aware of where their teammates were to move in harmony to positions where they can create separation. I noted it was reported from training that coaches were telling forwards to keep moving.

PRESEASON TRAINING: Thursday 9th January 2025
dpositive replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Was there mention that while the AO is on theres no training at Goschs? -
I always thought Fritta was natural right and drive my mates spare by pointing out how many times he was in the incorrect pocket. By that I mean he should be kicking from the left hand pocket to allow for the hook of a right side release. (Buddy used to exploit his hook and I have noticed MAX and a lot of our players run off the line to maximise their distance.) However he (Fritta) seems to be able to convert on either foot from either pocket so I am really confused. Dont know if anyone has any stat on which pocket, which foot. That said I recall Kelvin Templeton kicking at his home chimney and he eliminated the hook from his delivery. He was always accurate over a short distance. Re the above running off the line , I also reckon the umpires call play on to our players more quickly than other sides and this results in an off balance kick . (again this is an informal observation with no statistical evidence). Perhaps training correspondents could see how we are moving at training

Should add that I also hold the course record at Moonee Valley and Flemington having completed circuits of both courses. I never made it to Sandown but have no doubt I could have smashed it there too. However those heady days are gone and i now coudnt beat a wagon owed by a Shetland.

Ill try and finish here 58er. When I began my enquiries I represented no group. as a former HR practitioner I sought to develop a team of supporters with skills and most importantly contacts. I felt and still do that the authority of MFC would create some leverage., and as has been recently reported the standing of the MFC brand would also benefit presentations. I did and do thank all those who contributed advice, some with experience in various areas and some with some very novel suggestions. One feature which emerged and I hope is included at Caulfield is a venue for all supporter who cannot get a seat at the G for the gand final but can gather at our home base to watch and celebrate. Im looking forward to that. I do appreciate Caulfield site. I lived near there and hold the course record for Clydesdales ( that being my surname),. I had the advantage of not having to pull a wagon load of beer like the only other light draught horses to grace the track. But seriously, public transport to the site is fantastic, so i hope your estimation of its build is correct.

Thanks for that My understanding was the review was of the administration.

Correct the question 1 Has the club sought from its stakeholders, members sponsors and supporters any involvement or interests in the Fishermans Bend Site? was as I said, answered courteously but meaninglessly. with the public answer, yes of course, by Kate Roffey my follow up questions handed to Pert 2 Can the club provide my independent group a list of people, bodies and organisations approached to discuss options? 3 (Again to avoid any conflict or degradation of current negotiations) can the club provide on a strictly confidential basis a list of potential financial organizations who have been approached to invest in a club project? 4 Given the inherent uncertainty of any feasibility study , including my own, does the club have any alternative strategies? 5.Do the club have specifics for the elite training facility, and the administrative and member spaces required in any concept and can they provide that to my group? did not receive any answers, not even the courtesy of acknowledgement. I dont necessarily want to revisit the full letter here 58er, suffice to say it was offered to try and ascertain some transparency and included detail of understanding of confidentiality. My aim to find if there were members who had capacity to explore my option was achieved through demonland. I was and am still unaware of any approach by the board seeking its members opinions. I concede FB is dead the only option the club is pursuing is Caulfield.

Sorry didnt realise I was "harping on". Assume you mean Perty not Perry. I thought I have held back from commenting and indeed indicated my support for Caulfield while indicating my reservations. Perhaps I would have protested less had I received response to my questions from Perty. I sought questions "about all other possibilities that they have been examined and considered" and received no responses. I indicated that my intention was to ensure that I did not want to prejudice any negotiations and again received no responses to my questions. Nor was I afforded any acknowledgement or communication from the board to meet and discuss any of my thoughts. I appreciated that I was just one member (although I did receive many comments of support from random member contacts) and that the board were busy with their own issues. I should add that I also received comments along the lines that the board needed to concentrate on its issues and not be distracted by answering the questions I raised. That was the reason I held back. I have not raised the issue with the club and again appreciate that many of the "possibilities" they examined, the "examinations" they may have conducted and "considerations" they had undertaken may have been subject to commercial in confidence or similar restraints. Because of the lack of information I did not and have not proceeded. I look forward to a total club Training and admin facility at Caulfield and hope that the new board will engage with members in an improved fashion. I have seen some evidence of that and hope that this continues. Perhaps I may redraft my questions to Perty to the new board amending Fishermans Bend to Caulfield, although on reflection much of the preamble which related to expanding population demographics do not apply to the Caulfield project and again may distract Pert from his aims and may be considered to be just harping on. I apologise for any offense or for wasting anyones time. I am happy to discuss any matters with anyone and perhaps harp on too much. I hope to hear you all barracking for the Dees as I will be whenever I can get to games, or training.

Not this year. I asked one last year, was criticised for my introduction and did receive a courteous and meaningless response from Kate Roffey. I passed correspondence to Gary Pert which had my further questions and contact details on it. I received no further response from CEO, president or board.

Only just got referred to this thread having had a busy time in October November and December including getting to the AGM. i did appreciate most comments and particularly Ricky D who I hope continues to monitor and comment on this and other demonland threads. I have worked at senior management in public and private organisations. I have worked on project and organisational change processes. I have always barracked for the Demon. I have provided personal contact detail to all and have had some worthwhile conversations from those conversations. They have all been courteous and helpful. I had similar frustrations especially with question raised at AGM 2024 and lack of response to letter given to G Pert on Fishermans Bend. I did not take my concerns to other media and have expressed my support of the club and particularly Caulfield despite reservations. I have used my limited contacts and abilities to gather information and have found the complexities and barriers I encountered too overwhelming given my other activities. I did express my thoughts on the AGM and supported Brad Greens action son that night. It did provede some reassurance that there may be some improvements as he stated. I was and am sceptical of a review process undertaken under the direction of the subject of the review. It does smack of the old political truism "never conduct a review unless you know the outcome", however I await the outcome with hope. I note recent government reports conducted by both partied that provided public exposure of unpopular recommendations. The response was not to hide the report but to merely adopt selected recommendations. I lookmfor similar action by MFC.

i would imagine this is all now an investigation and insurance process With overlays of heritage requirements cant see this as causing anything but delay. The MFC project is not directly affected or even on that side of the site so may not be too disastrous.

Would be good if we could have an irony font. or perhaps we should just introduce them with an introduction of a phantom journalist. Most of the attempts at humour are not funny (I accept responsibility for that) but most are pretty obvious as jokes. I give demonland readers greater credit for being able to discern fact from fiction they have had a lifetime of it. Much of the repartee on this site comes from such exchanges and people can easily opt out But I take your point. Many people read the dribble that is presented by real journalists and much of it should not be approved for publication .

Hope thats not a shot at me Cranky. I accept the juvenile digs but its only coz its so easy as rumour after rumour was found to be nothing but a swipe at MFC. Petracca, Oliver, Kozzie the obvoius but also plenty of press focus on Melbourne when Collingwood, Carlton , GWS, Dogs, Tigers and Bombers all had much greater internal issues which received a lot less focus. I wont step away from the dysfunctional administration. I was pretty critical in the way the CEO, President etc handled particularly those above three matters, also Brayshaw and some of the treatment we received at the tribunal. I have quietened down my commentary on the training ground as I support the club but I am certainly still annoyed that no consideration for Fishermans Bend/Port Melbourne even as a negotiating factor and still dubious as to how Caulfield will turn out. I was also critical of communication and the handling of the Deemocracy group, with eventual acceptance of 4 of the 5 processes before the expensive legal processes were completed. Im certainly not trying to rewrite history and would hate to be seen as an acolyte coz im really more of an agnostic. As an existentialist I am happy to accept that there as many opinions in the room as there are people, and much more but as this test draws to its conclusion and with Tennis and Cycling still to come as the summer heat propels me to the pool I look forward eagerly to a massive season where the whole club contributes to a flag at the MCG. GO DEES

I am a bit behind what with Christmas and all this heat now keeping me inside watching the cricket

Tom Morris reports Clayton Oliver dumps on Christian Petracca thinking he should have won the Norm Smith as he is the best player in the club. Petracca responded everyone knows the only reason Oliver won the Brownlow was because I kept feeding him. Meanwhile the AA team was redrafted when it was pointed out that Max Gawns ruck technique of laying the ball down to Viney, Petracca and Oliver showed limited "ruck craft" despite his comments to the contrary. Umpire displeasure at his comments meant he did not get any Brownlow votes and was the main reason the Brownlow system was compromised. The O;iver Brownlow will be removed from any official records, The AFL will take action to modify the system to ensure Melbourne matches are no longer counted. We cannot have our most valuable marketing medal won by Melbourne players in the future. There was further controversy over the Coleman medal importance as it was ruled that a comprehensive review of video evidence showed that JVR had many goals paid despite several incidents that should have resulted in his goal being ruled ineligble. IT would be better if these post incident realities had been identified earlier, but now they have been evidenced the Melbourne grand final victory will be removed from all official records. An unfortunate aside is that the Rising Star winner will now be transferred to another club possibly Richmond as he cannot be tarnished by the train wreck that is MFC. Melbourne FC is reported to being relocated to a suburb of Darwin renamed Melbourne as soon as administrative processes are put in place. The club will have ground space allocated there and their administrative operations will be run from Timor Leste. It is important that Caulfield and the racing industry are not affected by the apparent malaise of the MFC who will always be remembered as an important part football history although it now hoped that moving them as far away from Tasmania as possible will not affect the significance of this new club. I always report accurately any story that I can make up when I can get paid.

Dont worry Tom can still report that Goody met Steve and upset May who was annoyed that selfies were being taken without his agreement. He wanted a trade. May contacted Richmond seeking a trade but when Prestia turned up and found Trac, Clarry and Viney were not there ,the whole transfer arrangement that was supposed to be conducted was called off. Steve was unaware of this and has not agreed to release it to May so the transfer deal may still go ahead. Expect Melbourne to conduct a full club evaluation including castigating its supporter base for approaching Goody in an unsolicited transfer scheme. Dingo will be appointed interim supporter engagement officer in what is seen as another embarrassing incident recognising the fundemntal failures of Melbourne. Trac Clarry and Viney will no longer train and play for this train wreck of a club. May may seek early retirement . Tom Morris will report further revelations to this fantasy tale in the next edition of any outlet that will pay him to make this stuff up

I like the look of this team. It seems to be a good blend of old and new against the GWS team on their website. Its a question of experience and unknown and GWS is both. Its a good time to test a few of the new boys so the only change I might make is give Jeffo a run. Possibly Tmac who is training the house down in lieu of Lever who may do with an extra week or even Petty. Need to reward performance with selection.

I wish Gus all the best. I only really know him from the public reports since his drafting with the club. He was certainly impressive in every aspect of that relationship. I am still personally impacted by any mention of him and can only imagine how he is affected. He was such a bright light with his podcast with Max and the relationships he developed with the players will always be remembered. I know he can continue to impress in any phase of life he chooses. I would like to see his relationship with the club continued and indeed renewed . I believe he has much to offer the club. His has been a unique experience and while he already has a legacy as a premiership player, the club can build on his experience as a Concussion ambassador if he chooses and build another even more significant legacy in the industry and community.

Yes understand and appreciate. Does not have to lose its independence but can provide a forum for authoritative comments from the club. Doesnt have to be on every issue and again could seek the responsible assistance of demonland moderators etc. my thought was also moe directed at the technology and technical expertise that resides within the Demonland admins.

Brad Green seems to have done a good job. At the AGM he apperared nervous but handled the formalities well and had some excellent interventions as he warmed to the role. I think he was expecting conflict and criticism but realised that it was a collection of supporters. He stated at the meeting that he was going to develop a member engagement focus, would be transparent and would communicate clearly and consistently. Clear ,consistent communication was my mantra in my professional life, with the emphasis on consistent from all line management. This applied in small business, large organisations and government departments. It applied in public, private and for profit and not for profits. I have always been impressed by Demonland, not only from the diversity of opinion it contains, but more significantly the technological competence at its base. Demonland correspondent sprovide such great training coverage, and issue identification and discussion in a very timely and responsive fashion. Because of the nature of Demonland there is not always consistency, but it does display the diversity required to set policy and practice. There is always compromise but clear direction with recognised authority will ensure progressive action. All the characteristics of leadership will occur. Has Brad reached out to Demonland administrators to assist the communication process. I can undersatnd why there might be some reluctance from both sides but Demonland does represent a large cohort of experienced and passionate supporters. Can demonland present to the club details of how many members use the forum and how it can be used to improve engagement?

So many good teams in the squad. How do they match up? How do they team together? Im still researhing.

That is great work thanks for sharing.

Fair points 58. I will try and do the research to back up my thoughts with an opinion. Sat down with the guys I go to the footy with for our end of season wrap and we agreed we had a good squad. Since then we have picked up some youngsters and I have been trying to follow the training reports. Its all so positive Im thinking everyone will want to use my handle. I agree there is a finals team (I prefer to think Grand Final) but hopefully that will develop over the year, and thats why I want to see as many different players and options used during the season. Will keep trying to monitor those who really do give so much great insight from more intense involvement, especially those brilliant training reports
