Well the club should be doing something about that. prescribing the money but deducting amounts from the payment for non performance, someone suggested players paying members fees, who knows creative stuff that may make the players wake up that they too can be creative and maybe that this is serious maybe that they must GAF.

Thanks for that DO I have said in another thread that the problem with our payments is that our team is nowhere near the performance level of other teams and it is crazy that players are getting equivalent payment. On some basis these players should be paying us. While it is true that players are worth what the market will pay and a player like Howe does bring some different attributes and may be worth more in a team that can utilise his inconsistent brilliance, or can get some greater value than we think he is worth then you trade. We do need to be smarter with our payments and get some performance improvements from it. Although every survey in the past showed that money is not the major driver of performance. Security, stability, work independence and flexibility are usually the main factors of job satisfaction. Non monetry reward fame and recognition are also key factors. There is a chicken and egg argument but money isnt always the main issue.

Looking at yesterdays game. on top of the seasons results but more importantly the standard of other teams in the competition we are obviously lacking. I would say we have been lacking for many years. Melbourne players lack intensity. I have asked wether we are training at a greater intensity for the last couple of years and keep getting no replies. There are some of the newer players who now seem to understand that intensity and display it. How our players as a group can be being paid the same as any other group is what amazes me most. We do not seem to have many players who would be worth anything on the open market so lets test it. In saying that Watts is still a class act and would be valuable in any team but he does play without intensity I would be paying players on performance and expecting some big improvements to justify the payments. Hogan, Brayshaw, Jones, Watts are probably the only players of real value in the side. Garlett good but inconsistent but shouldnt be expected to win every game every week worthy Gawn, Viney, Stretch, McDonald, Salem, Pedersen are in the next category of emerging towards the top. Cross, is excellent value as alluded to Frost Petracca Harmes could be Dawes and Howe the biggest disappointments. Garland, disappointing Jamar, past it perhaps Toump still well short but could still develop Will have to go get a list coz frankly many are so disappointing I cant recall where I would place them but hope we arent paying them the same as the worst paid in any other club I would like to know the real salaries of players coz I reckon many Melbourne players are taking their salary under false pretenses. When players are able to take their wages and dont or cant chase, dont or cant shepherd when they give off a handpass, dont play with intensity every second they are on the ground, they are fooling themselves. This team can do better. The coaches must understand the intensity that is required and should be demanding it at practice and certainly for every second of game time

Thanks for that link MS would have missed it Some great sentiments in there and it does evoke the sort of sentiments I feel for the characters who inhabit Demonland. I did see some vision of the place which added to the reality of the article and I guess the phrase that we all need places like this to remind us of what is possible is perhaps a metaphor for the MFC. We as supporters are all merely a part of the ephemeral milieu aware of our fragility and awaiting some redemption.

Weeeellllll NNNNoooooo Not really "what MUST happen" just what this incompetent government is making happen. and perhaps incompetent is too strong as they led by Abbott as the master pragmatist know how to get and stay in government. so very competent at holding onto government. We all know they idealogically dont want gay marriage but to say so would be political oblivion better to obfuscate coz its not something they can lie about nor can they blame the Labour party for. Personally I am ambivalent and cant see why this bit of legislation is so important. We have recognised the rights in every other sense I believe so why not just do it....see above

Think that just about covers it Jnr and is the most ignored feature of the whole saga I believe it is also the difference between the "intention" that WADA can rule on and the comfortable satisfaction that AFL had as a benchmark. I read some of the decision of the AFL tribunal and found I had much sympathy with the tribunal members, even though my level of satisfaction was not as rigid. (I didnt have to report to a very large and critical audience) Also my concept of intention may be a bit more highly aroused. I am also interested in someone calling Hird out to tell the "truth that needs to come out" and perhaps asking him while doing that what was the intention of the program they undertook without records. There do appear to be serious issues with government involvement at all levels and it will be interesting to see if that is identified through the ongoing procedures.

-
Bit of a cop out really They have managed to make many decisions using their mantra of the sacred mandate They pick and choose what they want to take responsibility for The difficulty with this issue is that they can't blame the Labour Party for it

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 19
dpositive replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Its got to be different strokes for different folks or horses for courses. we have a squad with different skills and different levels of performance required. While I would have preferred Fitzy who seems to have performed well at Casey since tunnelball1 and Toump to be considered they are hopefully being developed to be utilised properly to get the maximum return Have to trust our coaching panel -
I have always supported Jack I said he was crucified in the first game by the club the umpires the opposition and his teammates. He had along way to come back but he never gave up He gave lead after lead which were ignored, he got the ball and looked for a teammate who was not there. He often made two or three efforts before being overwhelmed. He has always had sublime skills He was inconsistent and loped around, he did some things that were very ordinary It may be that the last few weeks he has seen that there is now some chance of reward for effort there certainly was none in previous years. We can now enter a game against any opponent with a thought that we can win As more and more players have that belief there is more desire to give your best. Jacks best will prove to be the very best as we improve as a team he cannot do it alone but I know one thing he has proven time and time again He will not give up

amazing thing that of all the millions of trips by all sides of politics Tony Burke is instantly identified. im not an apologist for any polititian but i think there has to be consideration for some of the additional impacts on their lives. these people do get paid considerably less than a bloke who kicks a footy around on the weekend. Perhaps if like most people instead of an entitlement they had to pay up front and then seek reimbursement just like tax they may consider what they do more carefully So Tony Burke could claim reimbursement for compensation for family time lost in performance of duties and he would know exactly how much it was because he would have already paid for it -

BOY I thought I was cynical! -
Very impressive appearances with some measured r and well prepared responses. Would hope that the pressure and intensity he applied at training is not diminished but in in fact encouraged so that every player is trained to play prepared for the contest. I liked another thread where it was commented that it is important that our younger players are given a taste of the intensity at AFL level and then returned to Casey to apply themselves. This can be replicated through the training sessions. Keep that intensity up Jack

No doubt the review will expose all those matters that Tony wants to expose. Anything not exposed will be in the national interest, security , on water matter, or subject to cabinet consideration. It may be unfortunate that some alternative candidates for the leadership may well be caught up in this although I notice Malcolm is already outlining his defence. Anything else will be destroyed and the Essendon football club model will be used. We dont know what it was but it wasnt illegal. The government may be vying for the best friend of the legal fraternity award currently led by J Hird. -

Now that Bronnies resigned it's great that Tony is to undertake a "root and branch" examination of all the previous governments similar excesses Wonder if this rigorous examination will extend to the previous Liberal government? -
I was gonna let this go coz I dont really have the exact facts so it is really just my opinion developed from many articles etc. Refugees that I have seen interviewed are usually persecuted by an alternative power base. They have often backed the wrong side in a dispute. (thats why we got the defeated Vietnamese right wing and not the left wing socialists) Some have fought for the external power which is defeated and are therefore enemies in their own country. Some are merely living under such horrendous regimes that channel all wealth into an elite few and arms industry while not investing in health and education. Also some regimes are ideologically or religously driven with a narrow agenda. Many refugees want to leave these conditions not for themselves but to improve life for the next generation. Sometimes that the only reason they supported the wrong side in their own country internal conflict. Most programs I have seen this is the overwhelming reason for movement and is why the young feature so much in movement. Women are also heavily represented due to the abuse that they suffer. Males fight to protect their women and children and will often sacrifice to move them away from harm to a more settled and advanced society. Often that advanced society is a long way from their country which are surrounded by countries that are no better than the country they are leaving. they often strike out as the Jews did from Germany through many countries to get to a place of salvation. The Jews were fortunate that Israel was established specifically for the opressed and persecuted.. Although that experiment has not proven that stable for middle east. What responsibility do they have to get a different end and make a stand. Again as above many do sending only a part of their family. Often they make the ultimate sacrifices to effect that change. The fight against the sick political will is not only the islamic forces domain. The Us originally supported Sudam. The powerful protecting their interests are responsible for these population movements. Often the powers manipulating forces are not resident in the country of conflict. Sri lanka again is a different scenario where Tamils (religous minority) were trying to maintain their culture (land) etc against regimes supported by externals. They lost the war there and are now persecuted and are fleeing to other countries where they can retain their identity. Again it is often the younger generation who are initially sent to improve their circumstances. The countries that you refer to closer to Sri Lanka , may have wealth which the ruling regimes control to their own advantage. they also have large social inequity and social problems. They are also a culture which is battling with its own identity and does notexhibit the same abilities of inclusion of minorities as Australia and other countries. These persecuted minorities look to countries that are developed and have advanced learning that they understand the strength and values of diversity. Societies that accommodate minorities. Societies that are not frightened of difference but embrace it . Societies that are compassionate. Societies that can show respect to all. Societies that do not discriminate. Societies that allow a fair go. Do I need to go on. There arent that many places it was one of the reasons why Australia is a lucky country and why we are a desirable option. We also have capacity which must be carefully managed and we should not allow power divisions to erode our fortunate egalitarian past.

Adam Goodes - australian of the year 2014
dpositive replied to dee-luded's topic in General Discussion
I have been thinking of this issue as i read all the associated reports on this site, in other press reports and heard the remarks on Radio and TV. What is a boo? exclamation 1. said suddenly to surprise someone who is unaware of one's presence. 2. said to show disapproval or contempt. It is a gutteral exhalation which indicates an inability to express oneself in an articulate fashion. I may be unusual but I do not boo as it does little to express the reason for my disapproval or contempt I have the same issue with swearing which I use frequently. I acknowledge that I swear because I often do not have the ability in times of frustration to express myself in a rational and articulate fashion. I always try and express my frustration or disapproval with a steam of descriptive reasoning which often includes an offensive word. However I prefer this both from an internal purging perspective and as targeting the reason for my outburst. I can then apologise and often do if I find that the cause of my frustration was wrong (I dislike replays sometimes) I always say it is the intent and context of the word that is important when I am often chastised for using the F word and I remind poeple that B ugger and Ba stard were once treated with greater concern than they now are. Both are often in fact used as terms of endearment. But it is the intent which provides the meaning. I think Goodes was genuinely upset with the continued commentary, not booing that was directed at him when he turned on the girl. He also sees his role to educate and I support him in that it is all our role to educate. I think he did meet the girl and in many interviews apologised that he had to take the action he did. He may be a ducker. a slider , a pusher in the backer, an umpires favourite but please dont boo him for that. Dont boo the umpires dont boo anyone. Tell them what you think they did and what you think of them. It may take longer and you may even learn something through the debate that arises, but believe me you will feel better about it and you wont be lumped in with the illiterate inarticulate and uneducated. -
I despair They should all be told they are playing for their career Because they are They should be told to train like it's their last game They should be told to play as a team because they can't win alone and if they don't win they will be nothing The They should be reminded of how they played to beat the dogs and the cats They should be reminded that they are as good a player as their opponents but must be a better team

My kingdom for a basic forwardline setup
dpositive replied to Curry & Beer's topic in Melbourne Demons
I prefer my revolutionary Churn Hogan moves constantly and well, he is the key forward and should be kicking at goal, but he should not have to go to CHB to get a shot at goal Howe is the flyer and should stay in the goal square or pocket Dawe moves alternate to Hogan ie at a different angle None of these three fly against each other The Churn is created by the circular movement of forwards rotating into the geographical space created from Hogans initial movement. Garlett or alternative small forward can run past the contest being created from the contests coming from the churn Mids run past the contest from centre to pocket while forward runs past the contest towards the centre.nthe constant movement means opponents are off balance while our forwards are initiating the movement and therefore in control -

Abbotts election mantra was "Stop the boats". He has manifestly failed this as boats are still coming The fact that the Australian public does not know how many or what happens to them is of little consequence. Changing the language from stopping to turning back is also of little consequence Labour like the libs and every other government esp Europe has no real solution to the problems of population movement. All we know is what we are doing is not working Perhaps implementing International bans on armament distribution, assisting education and health programs to improve the situation in current war torn or dysfunctional countries might be better. Perhaps even consideration that the religious fervour that is driving most of these movements needs to be adressed. I look forward to the next series of send them back to where they came from to see what that reveals

Froome seems to have them all covered with a Sky team that also is very cohesive and committed. Seems Ritchie is going to BMC which is a pity. Orica have a great team but no real GC contender. Gerro may have missed his chance. Ritchie would slip into the Orica squad well and there is plenty of depth to support him and allow him to finish off. Hope The Orica management have given this every chance of happening

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 17
dpositive replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Would be happier with Howe deep in forward pocket and told to stay inside 50 for the long bomb or anything in the air but to keep away from Hogan . Watts can then be played up the ground and deliver to Hogan Howe or any other presenting forward target. He is one of the few who can spot em and kick to them. wasted in the pocket for mine.
