i have said for many years that MFC should invite the umpires down to our training session to discuss what we are doing wrong in our tackling or ball handling. our heads are certainly not sacred as we do not seem to get frees for obviously high tackles. In the back is never paid for us .Both these frees are often paid against us. Is it technique that leads to the random nature of frees? It has seemed to me that we rarely get the softer free kicks and we often get penalised for infractions that other teams get away with. free kicks are often paid against the run of play when our structures then get stretched. We alo seem to be asked to play on after marks or frees where our opponents are given much longer time to set up etc. is this technique? Obviously part of this examination with the umpires would also introduce our players as law abiding and friendly people who just want to be able to perform at their best, confident that they will be rewarded if opposition players interfere with their normal actions.

i pay membership on an automatic transaction from my back account each month. My account was hacked a couple of years ago and I have now a restricted withdrawal from my card. The club membership is card based and runs as a 10 month year while my payment is direct and 12 payments in the year. I have trouble all year and it is superbly picked up by the staff every match day. I get messages constantly saying my membership is not up to date etc and again have to contact membership who are always friendly and helpful. Its abit of a pain but it does mean I am developing a good relationship with the membership people. They are as good off the field as the team is on the field and always manage to convert so maybe even better.

from an HR perspective Exit interviews are held with terminating employees. KPIs and performance interviews are and should be referenced constantly ( or not at all ) for individual purposes. As has been noted players probably get feedback relentlessly, how they respond needs to factored into the regularity or length etc. Exit interviews by their very nature are more a review of the clubs practices. Why are you leaving, what makes alternative so attractive, what would you suggest we do to retain you, etc.

we should be using that perception to extend the $ we have with the reputation as "good guys" as reflecting an ability to achieve outcomes. Governments also like to back winners.

A group of us had our post season lunch and the common thread was that we felt we had a good list which required little modification and the club seems to be well placed. I have previously promoted what I call Churn, and was interested to see the forwards lining up in a line from centre to FF with no one in the pocket. The line would change for every ball up as players progressed through the line. It was similar to the churn which is where players constantly move around with each geographic location containing a player but varying exactly due to skillset etc. Allows the blind release as each player knows when they move into another space someone will move into their previous space. Also allows match ups to occur which can exploit opposition being rigid. The Churn can be employed to load a particular side of the play and can be employed for a period and then revert to a more static structure. will watch with interest this seasons innovation from Goody.

Usually any government involvement matches a contribution from the applicant. Its sort of similar to having a line of credit based on your own equity or investment. The sound financial position of the club should allow us to explore Fishermans bend freehold with govt contribution for community involvement.

apologies to all. You are correct in all you say. i have presented a poorly constructed and articulated comment. it does certainly present as sexist criticism which was not my intention. Thank you for taking the time to respond and as you say it would require more time to dissect than it is worth. i will contnue to watch and support our male and female players and encourage everyone to do the same.

I have said that AFLW was a defining cultural change and we have seen how bad we are at that. what was a grab for greater relevance by the AFL to attract a greater share of the market (females) became a bit of a tsunami with free entry and family friendly additives. The standard with female bodies adapting to a sport designed for heavier stronger male bodies has been fantastic and as it has become more physical, mothers and women seem to have cooled in their support. the sport does need to attract the cohorts female and families to grow their numbers and it needs females to engage with the game at the same vicarious level that AFL has achieved with the male game. Women need to talk of the women players around the water coolers and bbqs not the men players, steer the conversations about the game to women involvement, etc. In short a cultural change that needs support by women. Men have adopted the AFLW particularly fathers with daughters, taking their families to the games but in social contacts probably talk more of the males featured in the mainstream media. It is a changing culture and it is happening the AFL need to wary of the impact that Sam Kerr is having on its targetted market.

great memories 58 I go back nearly as far as you but my experiences were a lot more sporadic and distant. Growing up poor and in the country it was very much a remote vicarious following. My number was Hassa Mann 27 and I endured the ups and mostly downs of following MFC, I was happy to go more regularly as redlegs, legend member in later years and disappointed that our flag finally came remotely. I am really looking forward to a few flags that I can watch as i think we have a great list supported by some great off field leadership. GO DEES!!!!

As Ive said we have some great people on the board. I have been to Hong Kong and seen the football facility in the centre of the racing course.. It was not ideal for connection but was agreat entertainment facility attached to a racecourse. The principal operation will always be a race club not a football club. We would be a minor tenant to another industry. Fishermans Bend offers greenfield site that we can control.

these resources provide a solid down payment which could allow access to further private investment funds (superannuation and financial) and an opportunity to supplement government support to have our own owned portion of a larger facility. I agree we have some great performers on our board who will be able to exert influence for the best deal for the club.

The appeal of Port Melbourne is just that. Port MELBOURNE it is the only suburb area that contains the name of the club and has the heritage links as the port that associates it with the club. Port Melbourne have similar club colours to MFC and a rich history. Fishermans Bend is a green field site that has plenty of underutilised open and warehouse spaces. It has government endorsement (both parties) and recognition of huge population growth. There is an established development body and potential to have improved access and entertainment and community facility. both developeers and govt may be attracted to consider such a facility if investment by a suitable body. Ron Barassi SNr oval is close to the area although you have to search to find it. its on the river near what was the old port.a new facility in FB could be a fitting site for the Ron Barassi facility.
