Training Ground?
Fishermans Bend is on the fringe of CBD and a greenfield site. With projections of 80,000 population public transport and road access will be provided to satisfy the development. Theres no station there yet but train, tram, light rail can all be provided. Theres access from freeways and Port Melbourne access seems effective. Port Melbourne is part of the heritage link, as is the link to the existing Ron Barrassi Snr oval to the west between FB and Docklands. Theres ample room for all facilities but it does require some bold and imaginative action. MFC has led the way in the past and can continue by reclaiming its place as the Melbourne team located between the Port and the CBD, not suburban linked. I am curious as to what is "demon heartland" definition. I say we are "Melbourne" and should be aligning and promoting ourselves as such. Im happy to hear all comments and look forward to more information being provided so an informed decision can be made. The feasibility study is a great process.

You may be correct. If its in the middle it would be a disaster, if its at one end or side with separate stands and access it might be fine, but it is still a minor portion of separate industry site. would need very careful consideration which is indeed part of the feasibility study. Its still early days for the project which has some very attractive features.

Could be a bit harsh PF, but i do agree dont like it' perhaps you could join us in looking for a Fishermans Bend feasibility project. come to the AGM.

Thanks NC. Not sure of zoning etc. Its a big site. As I say Caulfield is an attractive option but may also be time consuming.

Any word on Angus?
yeah good work as i indicated then. Pity there is no response but i guess its pretty hard to defend the indefensible.

good work Pitmaster. Perhaps a less confrontational and more conciliatory approach asking how the natural human response of putting out arms was overcome and turning to shoulder impact was considered a more suitable approach from a bio-mechanic perspective, might be more likely to get a response. I understand this would be a more self protective action but would ignore any duty of care responsibility. Does he believe a greater awareness should be given to players. Could Maynards action have been penalised to set an example of this responsibility.? The movement seems to be ignoring the impacts of shoulder to head, does he believe it is ok to target the head or should it be sacred? I also understand there was an increasing number of wrist and arm injuries as that natural instinct was prevalent in skateboarding and snowboarding. Wrist guards were introduced to limit these injuries. Theres no compensation for Gus or the club who were obviously severely affected and lost the past battle, but there may be, to use our coaches well worn phrase, some learnings that we all could see. At the moment it seems there is a continuation of violent football acts where self propelled human battering rams can inflict damage at crucial times.

Ive never advocated that any site is necessarily heartland, as we would need to define that. Is it our fan heartland? our player heartland? our administrators heartland? our coaches heartland? our philosophical/idealogical heartland. WE might end up with the MCG our home ground. Perhaps not such a crazy idea, although I see that the restrictions and limitations of that site are formidable. Seeking input from all stakeholders staff, players and fans may be lost in a generational transfer but 80,000 population could provide a new market and may even shift the population centre while the rapid developments at Werribee and kalkalo might shift the geographical centre. I have stated that Fishermans Bend is aligned to the Port of Melbourne and as a greenfield site can be branded as MFC heartland. It is also a short distance from the existing Ron Barassi senior oval.

The Caulfield option is certainly attractive from the $570 m proposal promoted by PWC in 2019 and scheduled to begin in 2023 with new track upgrades. The proposal is reported to also depend on sale of Sandown so there might be some further delay. The MFC segment would be a smaller portion of the whole project so it could be an attractive financial investment if ownership was possible. If leasing then the investment would certainly need to be reduced nd my make it an attractive offer. THe plan would also sit well in a greenfield site such as Fishermans Bend which has an existing residential plan with no recreational precinct included. Caulfield certainly has existing rail and therefore good accessibility while FB is still a glimmer in the FB development boards eye I dont see a home base for a few years yet so better get used to Casey and Goshs which did give us a flag in 21. Maybe we should ask the players where they would prefer and make sure they are on the journey with the members capacity o pay.

2023 MFC Financials
Not sure that they will be hollow promises, they will be made with best intentions. BUT I am concerned that once again there will be little progress. i am not at all on board with a Caulfield option and would need to see some really substantial justification for a spot within the racing industry dominated site. Ive run around CAulfield and it is a bustling place every day of the week with horses training etc. Let alone the feature weekend events. I feel we would be lost in that environment. I have as many know been advocating for Fishermans Bend as a greenfield site. I appreciate that this is premium land with an existing development plan. From my limited knowledge there is no entertainment, community , sporting venue included. There is an argument that surrounding area Port Melbourne and proximity to CBD would provide adequate services but with a significant presence of a prestige club with a comprehensive site and facility for the predicted population, a vibrant and economically viable option could prosper. I do like your comment about "small contributions". I have always said if a lot do a little, a lot gets done. We are fortunate to have followed a great club for so long and it would be good to contribute and keep it progressing for the next generation. I have reached out to Dlanders to get some appropriate skills for a working party and have been gratified to already have some willing supporters. I hope to build with that and arrange some project meetings. I will keep you informed and will of course seek comments of support and even criticism, and will respond to any comments.

PRESEASON TRAINING: Wednesday 29th November 2023
ive been to a few training sessions myself and had difficulty in just random observations. I could never complete reports as comprehensive as those of all the track watchers. Let alone the ability to concentrate on specific drills or people but reporting on the phone while you are observing. Fantastic work and I really appreciate it

well thanks for that support but I would really need the expertise of others with specialist knowledge to get it up. I hope to raise it again at the AGM

Training Ground?
Im not so sure its a myth but I dont believe its a great option, an minor player in an add on to the major racving industry. Why not look at a new location, new site as major occupant with appropriate investment. Yes Im still talking Fishermans Bend.

Training Ground?
have you seen my pleadings for Fishermans Bend? Greenfeild site that needs some imaginative and progressive proposals.
-
Training Ground?
this is the sort of initiative that should be being promoted with the Fishermans Bend development team who will be building a brand new community. A sporting club (MFC) partnering in a community entertainment and recreation facility would have a great impact.
