I thought the same about Josh Caddy until Friday night and now I can see what the fuss was about. If we get Swallow there will have been some pretty serious football people at the club who made the decision and they won't be Barry P.

The only problem is if it means he can no longer play matches. He's not much use to us then.

THE DRAFT: TAC CUP FUTURE STARS ROLLING DRAFT
rjay replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'd be very surprised if Crouch went through to 17 but would love to pick him up. -
I think it might have been a little bit both ways 'wyl'. Ross and Roos go back to the Fitzroy days, they are friends and they will both leave a legacy.
-
Not is they had just signed a contract with another club, it just shows the character of the Hird organisation to my mind. I don't want people like him and Corcoran anywhere near our club.
-
They will put pressure on the Hawks kicking game but the Hawks will have more fit stars available the Swans are missing some key players and have others not fit. So I'm with you 'Robbie', I've seen the Dee's do this in finals under Northey but still come up short.
-
Are you ok 'Chook', I think you've forgotten to take your meds today. Only concerned for you mate. It would be nice if BT could understand the rules and maybe he can call the correct players tonight. The only thing good on the Saturday night team is Ling. At least he has an idea about what's happening. As for MMM, couldn't tell you. I listened once and that was enough for me. I don't rate Lyon at all, good footballer knows nothing about the game and the others ........know even less.

...by the way, I thought Caddy played a great game when he came on last night. I hadn't been overly impressed and wondered what all the fuss was about but if he can play like that then...well he was a match changer last night and unlucky not to come away with a win. Looks like there's still a bit more to come from Geelong.
-
Interesting when others are basing their opposition to us getting a priority pick on us making sudden improvements under Roos like Port.
-
We're on the way out. St Kilda are digging a deeper hole with Neeld mark 2.
-
Who would you prefer? Martin, Swallow, Adams, Aish or someone else?

Exactly, I think Roos might have a longer and slightly more informed list than Demonland and the football media. -
Then Geelong slow the game down, should have put the foot down.
-
Not sure how it will end but Clarkson has made a monumental coaching blunder in taking off Bailey. They had Geelong cold with Hale on Rivers now they've evened the contest and let them off the hook. Vardey is now winning the ruck contest against lesser rucks in Hale and Roughy. I know this has been a planned move during the season but sometimes you need to watch the flow of the game, definitely back Geelong's way and it's Clarkson's mistake.

Dunstan at pick 2 would be pretty bad.

If he moves on it will be to WC.

The current big clubs (remember not that long ago Hawthorn were struggling to stay in business and Collingwood were in trouble, Carlton, Richmond and Essendon not much better) want to protect their space. They don't want us up the ladder, their talk of equalisation is all window dressing. Free agency has made life so much easier for the current top clubs to keep their position. If we're not careful we will have an EPL situation but without the other interests that keep supporters and clubs involved in a season and not just making up numbers, FA cup, promotion relegation, whatever the Carling cup is called now. Because we only have one prize the season will be dead for clubs like ours after the first game or two. We need to move into a position of strength and if the AFL is serious then a PP is a no brainer, they also need to allow all clubs access to the best game times. To do this the games must be good quality and competitive. Equalisation means all teams capable of playing good winning football and all teams sharing Friday night, Anzac day and dare I say it Queens Birthday. edit: nah, we can keep Queens Birthday.

Well Chris should keep his own council until the decision comes down if that's true. ...and the Port logic is what comes out of KB's mouth, makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Spot on 'stuie'. No logic at all. If true it looks like the PP is decided on the crystal ball at AFL HQ. If it shows a good season ahead then no PP.
-
Don't seem to remember a fuss when Essendon poached Wellman when he had just signed a contract with us.
-
He's the type of player we should go after, a couple at Geelong also worth a look.
-
I'm struggling to think of what you are getting at here. So we get a good coach and CEO, well yeah it's about time. I don't for the life of me see what this has to do with a priority pick. This is Barrett & Bartlett logic, it just doesn't stack up. The PP should be based on performance and our performance is poor. Bartlett in particular seems to think we should see what improvements we make under Roos, I don't think so.

Looks a bit of an in between'er. Not a tall, not a small, have really only seen his senior game or games and wasn't overly impressed but that is unfair on a kid in his first game or so. Where would he fit?

Gysberts was and is not an outstanding athlete, just watching his training form and difficulty running out a game will tell you that. He is slow and has often been seen bent over searching for breath after his first effort, repeat efforts are beyond him. AFL players are elite in their sport, they are regarded as no more elite than any other sportsperson at the highest level. I can't remember the last AFL player to miss the draft who competed in athletics at Olympic level. I do know that Nicho was highly regarded but chose football, a few on here would wish he didn't. Compare his training output to Gysberts. Most AFL players are generalists as far as being athletes goes, if they were to compete at Olympic level they would have needed to make that decision in their early teens. They are not being chased by the AOC, that is just patent rubbish unless it's for the bob sled team. Blitz at Geelong who couldn't get in the Australian team runs rings around anyone at the Cats, and he is carrying 15 to 20kg above his athletic performance best weight. Also you might not know that Gysberts didn't test at draft camp due to injury.

Mumford was a required player at the Cats. Opportunity plus cash...

No kidding.
