  1. Just looking at the dream team points on the AFL site. Yarran 105, Parker 96. Shows how useless those rankings are, 'rjay' rankings tonight, Yarran total waste of space, soft, one trick pony; Parker big influence on the game, stood up, hard at the ball, goal kicker.
  2. I think he might become an honourable Ablett after tonights game...extraordinary performance.
  3. Me to. Well written.
  4. Stokes has a new deal http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-08-21/stoked-to-sign-on Joel Corey will retire at the end of the season, Enright will stay on as one of the all time greats and retire in the next couple. ??????? The other guys will be picked up by the Melbourne Bears, the MFC has better things to do.
  5. What a great player 'Chappy' is, but the trouble is a word in your last sentence...play. He just doesn't get on the ground enough to teach, if we could get him on the ground for a full season next year I'm with you, he is the real deal. ...by the way, I'm not sure he will come up next week anyway. Pulled up rubbing the leg in the 3rd I think, interesting to know how he was when cooled down. Don't agree with your call on Daisy, he's one of the hardest working players on ground, a real gut runner, Collingwood are really missing his workrate back and forward, something Roos loves. Ankle???
  6. Jared was poor and has struggled with the tempo of Geelong footy all season, missing games through injury didn't help. He consistently gets caught in the wrong places but he does fill a role for the side and this may be the only thing that gets him a game next week with Hawthorns tall forwards. If they get through and play Freo I think he would be in doubt for a GF. I think he was subbed with an injury though 'Jack' after Schulz slid into him although he deserved to be subbed out on form.
  7. The memory's not totally shot 'Paul_Man', but can be a bit selective at times. I'm not so sure the path led us the wrong way just the bloke with the compass and his accomplices. They're gone now thankfully. The PP would help us in securing a good kid, probably Aish and one or both of Taylor/Swallow. This would assist us to be more than competitive next year. I think the Roos factor will also give us a bump. Like all of us I don't want to see another year like 2013 and with the new group moving into the club a PP will be a help and not an impediment. I was confident we would get one but there are dark forces mounting against us.
  8. Looks like you will have to lift your game 'Redleg'.
  9. No 'Jack', I think he had a poor game last night. He just didn't have any effect on the game which is understandable as a first year player against a Geelong team who are streets ahead of the Collingwood team he played last week. I think Wines has had a terrific first up year but I hope we don't have to keep going over this Wine/Toumpas stuff much longer. Looks like they both will be good players to me.
  10. I think this is part of it, a big part. Having quality first timers and probably not enough faith in the older brigade probably helped him formulate the plan. He wasn't going to let Roos get away. For someone like Simpson who wants to be a career coach it makes perfect sense for him to do another term as an assistant under someone like Roos, particularly when the job is his in the next few years.
  11. I haven't been following this thread but it seems you have changed your opinion again on the pick. Don't forget how poorly we played this season and your turnaround on the pick by the end of the season. It's all good now we are not getting beaten up every week and Roos has come on board, it's the good old Melbourne pre season Pollyanna time but think back to those loses. I have understood your opinions on the pick but even you recognised towards the end of the season that we needed all the help we could get. This hasn't changed, don't let Barrett and co swing you back the other way. The pick is not a panacea but it will help us be more competitive with the current FD in charge and I couldn't stand another year like 2013.
  12. Guys keep the 3 strikes policy out of this thread, it has absolutely nothing to do with the ASADA investigation of Essendon. There have been a number of threads discussing these issues in the past and it is a good topic but not here.
  13. mmmm. Played like a first year player tonight. Not knocking the kid, he's been good but lets not pump him up too much. He was well beaten, only 14 touches at 50%. I'm not always a big believer in stats but my feeling watching tonight was he really had no effect on the game. The stats back that up. I'm not willing to call the decision on this one just yet, but happy for you to have your opinion. I have a feeling that both Wines and Toumpas will be good players, what I can't take is the comparisons with Gysberts and Morton. Toumpas might not be built like a tank but he has far superior skills than the those guys which will set him apart. Anyway, I guess I must be one of those idiots you are talking about.
  14. Have a look at the replay, Schulz slid right into him and took his legs out. The new rule like it or not was a free kick to Rivers, I can't believe McAveny's commentary. It was a classic example of the new rule.
  15. Yeah, I would think Swallow hasn't lived up to expectations to date. Whether that is injury or other reasons I don't really know but his VFL year was pretty special and that has yet to translate to AFL.
  16. I think they may have identified some really strong "new coach" candidates and because the club had made it known we weren't going down that path some exceptional lateral thinking was done and we have our current situation. No rumours or club sources just my own view reading between the lines.
  17. ...and he is??? according to Roos & Jackson it is, so you would be believing???
  18. You can be as shocked as you like but this is what is going to happen. My thinking is the club didn't think the 3 available senior coaches (Eade, Williams and Craig) were the right fit going forward but didn't want the risk of appointing a first up coach at this time. The obvious solution if they could get it to happen was Roos as coach/mentor to the coach in waiting, they select both coaches (Roos & senior assistant) within a month from the end of the season. Simpson must have interviewed very well and with Ling ruling himself out would be favourite at this time unless he takes the Brisbane or West Coast job.
  19. I think this comes from a guy who bet his mate he could get a rumour in the papers a few years back and he did. Might be trying again, be interesting to see if it hits the papers or SEN tomorrow. Atley is one of the players we missed with the Cook pick where we drafted for needs rather than best available. Dare I also mention D...... from the same draft.
  20. I think PJ will stay on at least while Roos is at the club so we should have him for 2015/16 and he will have a succession plan well in place by then.
  21. It would only create a point of conflict at the club, 2 people fighting for the same job. No matter how grounded Burns and Simpson are they will be looking for the edge and support will be split amongst the playing group. No more divisiveness at Melbourne thanks.
  22. He would be a good get for them but I can't see it happening unless they have a good trade or maybe even the Thomas compo pick...anyway, I guess we have enough of our own problems.
  23. Reid only just signed a 5 year contract last year, he will stay a Swan unless Collingwood have something really good on offer and they don't. The rumour was really a wish of a Collingwood talkback caller, if I call in tomorrow and float the story of us getting Griffen from the dogs for Dunn do you think it would have any credence? Strange time of the year we are moving into now. By the way the only offer that to me would look good would be his brother. The Swans and Pies swap brothers, now that would be interesting.
  24. Defensive forwards are over rated as are the so called small forwards. All players on the ground now are expected to put on defensive pressure. If you are spending any time in the forward line I would expect you to kick goals, nothing hurts a defender more and puts doubt in his mind. A forward who is just there to tag a defender is a waist of space and the defender has 3/4 of his job done for him. A long winded way of saying Jetts doesn't hit the scoreboard.
  25. If they were both 22yo then it would be worth a look, but no.
