I agree, just ditch the whole idea, get it off the books so to speak. If an extraordinary situation happens down the track then revisit it without all the baggage attached.

The if you can't get Dustin Martin get Reece Conca Thread
rjay replied to What's topic in Melbourne Demons
So...do you think he is overrated? being a long kick is not the be all and end all. -
That's it isn't it, as Jackson has stated the club has been a drain on the competition. The commission will act in the best interests of the competition and I'm sure they will be interested in the propaganda campaign being run by the other clubs and not necessarily swayed by it one way or another.
-
These are not rumours, they are opinions of media people all with allegiances to other clubs and a barrow to push. As Jackson said the other day the commission is there to make decisions in the best interests of the game not the individual clubs. The campaign against us is working overtime but I still think we stand a very good chance of getting a priority pick.

Wouldn't touch Martin, apart from his off field issues he is highly overrated on field. What he does looks good but he doesn't do enough of it. -
He was subbed out on a few occasions this year, can't run out the game anymore. He is quickly coming to the end. Not a good pick up.

Posted this on another thread but there is a big difference between Aish, highly skilled hard working mid to Gysberts, average skills, no tank. That doesn't mean I wouldn't consider Scharenberg though.
-
Gysberts never had elite skills. Aish is a very different player to Gysberts.
-
The really good ones step up from the start. Brown and Cloke came in and played good footy, Cameron at GWS the same. Of course they develop further with experience but they make an impact from the start. Hogan will next year and if Boyd is all he is cracked up to be he will do the same, his body is right for AFL.
-
I don't think GC would be that interested in picks at the moment and probably need to top up on experience or fill other positions. He is a good prospect though.
-
I think a lot of it hinges on the PP 'Ben', I'm with your brother on this and also think Roos is making positioning statements letting the AFL know we would be interested in a trade. If we only have pick 2 then it will need to be a very good deal and to my way of thinking Boyd (pick1) is the only one that would shake this kind of deal free. Aish to Melbourne unless something happens with the PP.

Have before. Basically he is a poor communicator with players, does not listen, does not have the intellect to change the game (Lyon, Clarkson, Roos) and doesn't delegate well. A great player but failed coach. We can and will do much better.
-
He might as a coach, couldn't see it as a player. We already have Jamar as an ageing ruck.
-
I don't think Thompson has 3 years in him, he really started to struggle this year. He will be 31 at the start of next season. We need to look for someone around the 24 to 26 age group who has time left.

Todd is completely out of the question. Apart from anything else his son is playing at the club.
-
Stupid question.

Yep, and this is what I also believe to be the real reason, the AFL wanted them out of this years finals. Governance wasn't the reason they acted so quickly on an interim report which in itself was most unusual, they couldn't afford to have the finals series tainted. The NRL have this problem now with Cronulla.
-
They just didn't want it badly enough 'dee-luded'. To many of their players weren't willing to do what it takes, they put their arm out at the ball instead of attacking with their body in line with the ball. They also badly missed Conca who was one of the ones that does attack the ball in the right way. Coaching errors again with a coach in his first final, he didn't do anything to stop Judd's influence until it was too late. 5 to 10 mins was all he needed and when they got a run on he stuck to pre conceived rotations rather stopping the bleeding. The obvious one, which is a mistake he makes over and over in tight situations was not having his A team particularly Maric in for centre bounce downs when the game has turned. Hardwick seems a good week day coach but comes up short on match day, he doesn't have a good feel for the game.

Might be a rather biased formula that factors in Brock McLean, Gillon McLaughlin and Andrew Demetriou.

He's used that one during the season as well, it must be a Collingwood thing. Their current and past coaches seem to have a problem seeing things coming. Mick must have been the only all seeing coach at Collingwood.
