I like the look of all 3. All competitive players who love the contest. Just some thoughts on Weightman v Pickett; Weightman reminds me of a Dalhaus type pressure forward, works hard, chases hard but nothing in his highlights shows him to have any real x-factor, no special qualities other than work rate. Pickett is an excitement machine, looks the real small forward we've been looking for. Jeffy with mongrel...I can understand why we rated him. Jackson is exactly what we needed to compliment our forward line...he's going to be a real hard match up and gives us some real versatility being able to give Max or one of the mids a chop out. With Fritsch, Trac & Melk...2 of Weid, Tommy & Pet plus Pickett we're looking a lot better than we did in 2019. Rivers; these picks are always more speculative of course but I love his attack on the footy, looks like he knows what to do with it as well. Has the attributes to be player, good size & skills. If he matches those with attitude then he should get there.

I think the AFL have put this one out there as a smoke and mirrors exercise. They will get people up in arms and as a compromise (lol) push through their real agenda which is in fact to shorten actual game time. They've got good old dial a quote Jeff out there stirring the pot. Watch this space. The AFPLA will be right in it with them don't worry about that. Good old "Paddy work less/pay more" will be smiling all the way to the bank.

The next Clayton Oliver...sorry '@Satyriconhome' not wanting to raise expectations or put on the demonland blowtorch but this kid will be a star... -

I think this is the point of picking Jackson 'rpfc'. We haven't recruited him purely was a ruckman. -

You can train it but for the great front & centre artists it's a natural skill. This kid has it. As you say, there's so much to like. -

Oh well, I guess he's no good then 'Rusty'...another bust. Should have delisted him. -

Check the height difference 'Rusty'... Reckon that might account for the 13kgs Weid for his height hasn't had the build to crash packs hard, it's not for want, the kid does have a go. Just hasn't had the weight to throw around. -

Until this year Weideman pretty much has been the build of Fritsch...just taller. -

...and they all would have taken Scully at 1 ahead of Martin at 3. Let's hope we get the right one at 3. -

Looks like he could be an oversized mid... -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL

The only thing I'm interested in is him being fit to play... You would think he was Ivan Milat the way some people go on. All his so called issues will mean nothing if he can get on the ground and perform at his best. -
Most of our list couldn't do full contact training last preseason. How well did that go for us?

Sorry, didn't phrase it well. The part of the article that they are saying is real science isn't... There is no real science to back up ice baths, it's just a fad. I'm all for the real science it's just sports science is often more fad than science. -

That article starts out with a very poor example. There isn't enough real science to back up the cold water/ice bath theory. In fact many are moving away from it. Unfortunately a lot of sport science is based on fads and the real science is often very flaky... Altitude training anyone? -
...but it's ok. Everyone has differing opinions, we're not all the same. That's what the forum is for, it's to express those opinions. Sometimes I think it's like the old days at the pub sitting around with a beer and having a good old argument with your mate about footy. I like the disagreements, arguments, discussions I have on here with people like 'macca', 'bin', 'wise', 'old', 'lucifer' and the like... I learn a lot from their points of view even if I don't always agree. It would be boring if we agreed all the time.

666 only effected a very small percentage of game time. ...but thinking back it actually won us the GC game. We openend up our forward half, got a quick clearance and a lucky point. Wouldn't have happened under the old rules. I don't understand why we didn't learn our lesson then. Apart from this one do or die incident we never seemed set up our forward structure to advantage of the rule. It wasn't that hard really... I would like to know why we didn't handle 666 well when we showed that we could use it to advantage.

You must be living in a cocoon... You want to hear what other clubs say about their teams/coaches etc. We are mild compared... Criticism is the new black for most everything in life these days. ...and you are adding to it with this post. Criticising the critics... I think we've done pretty well in the off season to by the way.

Don't want to get into an argument with you 'bin', but.... That one would be a real can of worms. -
I was wondering why we draft a young ruck but it's now getting a bit of the Oliver feel about it. We could have taken the safe option in Parish, and he is going to be a good player but Oliver is the star. If we do it again...great. Have to trust we get this one right if we take Jackson over the safe pick in Young.

As you say 'steve', there were many reasons. We might have finally run our race...call that cooked if you like but I think it probably overstates things. ...but the big one for me is we definitely had list issues, which we're addressing. The 2 finals wins we had were against teams that had their own issues, they probably gave us an inflated sense of where we really were.

This is disgraceful 'old dee'...they've just left the country leagues to rot on the vine. Their pay-packet should be linked to the real health of the game Australia wide, unfortunately it's not and down the track when Gill has moved on and done his damage I can see our football being relegated to being a quaint provincial game like Gaelic Football is now...

I've had a feeling for a while now that we are 2 to 3 class players off having a premiership capable list. We really need to pick up class in this draft, not sure splitting picks will help. If Bennell can get on the park then that's one...

I get your point 'Biff', we are assuming it is a racially motivated comment. ...but no matter it's more than idiotic and shouldn't be tolerated if made to anyone of any race or colour. As to the right wing/conservative v left wing stuff. We need to seperate that from the acts of extremists. AKA the nut jobs...always misguided, often disaffected.

...been saying this for a while now but I think he is the obvious successor for Nev...

Trouble is that the Republicans have moved further to the right and many Dems have become default Reps...Sanders, Warren & AOC scare the hell out of them so badly that some are even pushing for Hillary to run again. Now that is delusional...
