We could do worse. I think he is a better option than Tim Smith if either McDonald or Weideman is out of action.
  2. Our best 22 is strong enough to make us a premiership contender if everyone is fit and firing. We desperately need the charmed run with injuries that Richmond have had over the past two years, although it is clear that their better players are far more durable than our equivalents. Our depth in the midfield and in the key forward posts is basically non-existent. The thought of having to call on the likes of Maynard, Kennedy-Harris, Wagner or Tim Smith in a big game terrifies me. Hopefully we can find a few players in the draft who can step in and play a role next year, as Spargo and Fritsch did this year. Drafting a couple of longer term project players is fine, but no more than that.

The first few google links refer to hip dysplasia and stress fractures in his foot. Sounds promising.
  4. Pick 6 for a (soon to be) 27 year old who has never played 20 games in a season. Heaven help us. How on earth does May have greater value than Lobb?
  5. You are the biggest suck job, sycophant on this board. You're not Glen Bartlett are you, backing in his employees? Please enlighten me as to why we included pick 65 in the deal, and how pick 6 has any value to us if it is going straight to GC. We would have been better having 11 and 19, and sending 11 to GC.
  6. Hogan is gone. We will get May and Kolodjashnij in return and that is it. Mahoney has the backbone of a sea gooseberry when it comes to trade week. If they are sensible they will try to get something for Frost to at get us another pick in the 30-40 range.
  7. A bunch of middle aged white blokes trying to pretend that what they are doing is more important than curing cancer and ending world wars, whilst displaying their non-existent personalities.
  8. My first and only contribution to this ridiculous thread: I want Hogan to stay, not interested in May. If Freo are truly out, then I'm ecstatic. Hopefully no bridges between player and club have been burnt in this debacle.

The conduct of Beams and (Tim) Kelly has been disgraceful. In other cases (eg Shiel & Hogan) it is a combination of the players seemingly wanting out, and the clubs wanting to maximise compensation before players become eligible for free agency. I agree that the players will only have themselves to blame if the rules are tightened, but I can't see this happening. The AFL love anything that puts the game on the front page of the papers over the off season.

Beams seems like exactly the sort of person that good sides are trying to avoid like the plague. Good player obviously, but comes with a huge amount of baggage.
  11. Gold Coast will have to replace half of their list by the end of trade week, so are looking for a heap of picks in the middle of the draft. As said above, Brisbane need points for academy kids, but there is also a thought that they need another decent pick for Lachie Neale.
  12. Seriously good young player. I much prefer to see him playing half forward / wing rather than in defence, but there is no harm in developing his defensive game as well. I still think there are issues with he and Hannan in the same forward line, and he is a long way ahead of Hannan at present.
  13. The issue is that we didn't make enough list changes at the end of 2016 and 2017, which has culminated in a mass cull this year. To not take any rookies last year was inexcusable, as was having just two draft picks in 2016. I said at the start of this year that we would probably have ten list changes, and at this stage there could be another eight next year (Lewis, Kennedy-Harris, Maynard, T.Smith, Keilty, and Garlett plus any trades).

He'd want to be on absolute bottom dollar, because he makes Jeff Garlett looks like a competitive beast by comparison.
  15. I much preferred Bugg as a pesky tagger in his early years at the club, as opposed to the permanent forward role he played over the past two seasons. Either way his poor kicking prevented him from getting a regular game at AFL level, but he was a consistent contributor at VFL level. I could understand if he is a bit miffed that the likes of Garlett and Maynard continue at the club whilst he is out the door.
  16. There is a lot of hype from Melbourne fans over a guy who was a late draft pick and who has only played 15 VFL games. Hopefully he can have a big pre season and push for games in the early part of next year.
  17. The writing was on the wall when he was dropped from the Casey side, and I'm glad the club cut its losses at year end. There is no point keeping project players around on the off chance they might come good in five years time.
  18. Clearly the decision to play Petty against St Kilda was a massive error, but otherwise he progressed well in his first season at the club. If the club doesn't go stupid trying to bolster the defence in the off season, he should be legitimately in the hunt for senior games in the second half of next season.
  19. Geelong viewpoint - Would you trade Tim Kelly and Pick 11 for Pick 7 and Pick 15? Yes, that would be a great result in a strong draft. Carlton or Adelaide viewpoint - Would you trade Pick 1 for Pick 4 and McGovern? Adelaide yes, Carlton no if they think they can get Shiel. Port Adelaide viewpoint - Would you trade Pick 9 and Pick 10 for Pick 5 and Fremantle’s 2019 2ndrounder? Yes, if they are keen on one of the highly rated SA kids. Melbourne viewpoint - Would you trade Hogan for May and Pick 10? No, I would want Kolodjashnij too if we only get pick 10. First preference is to keep Hogan. Second preference is for two first round draft picks. Not really keen on May. GWS viewpoint - Would you trade Lobb for Pick 11? Every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Who would give pick 11 for him though? GWS or Carlton viewpoint - Would you trade Pick 4 and 2019 1st rounder for Shiel? GWS yes, Carlton would need a late first round pick to come back. Gold Coast viewpoint - Would you accept Pick 9 for May? No. The AFL will ensure that GC receive a pick after their first round pick next year if May leaves as a free agent, which could well be pick 2.
  20. 27 years old in a couple of days, played 2 career games, dropped after both. We are in a lot of trouble if he is playing regular football next year.
  21. Hopefully the latter - Johnstone is miles off AFL. Not sure why he wasn't delisted last week with the others.
  22. I don't see that Jordan Lewis is any different to anyone else on our list. If his form is good he plays senior football, if his form is rubbish he plays in the VFL. If he cracks the sads and refuses to play in the VFL, then we rip up his contract and tell him to bugger off. I have no issue with him playing 3-4 games, then resting him against a Gold Coast or Carlton to keep him fresh. Prior to his diabolical effort against West Coast, Lewis's form had been good and nobody was suggesting otherwise. The idea that he was keeping anyone out of the side is laughable. Who would you have brought in - Dion Johnstone?
  23. A soon-to-be 28 year old, undersized key forward who couldn't hit the side of a barn from 10 metres away for most of this season. Amazingly he will be our only key forward depth if Hogan departs - we are in for a world of trouble if Tom McDonald is injured or if Weideman reverts to his early season form.
  24. I am amazed that Johnstone hasn't been officially delisted yet. I have seen nothing that suggests he can become a decent VFL footballer, let alone an AFL footballer. I've said it previously, if he was not on our list, there is zero chance that we would recruit him now based on what we have seen over the past two years. So why bother keeping him around, even if his replacement is pick 245 in the rookie draft?
  25. What a massive disappointment Garlett was this year. He clearly didn't want to be playing football at any point of the season. I hope he can sort out whatever personal problems he has been dealing with this year, and come back strongly next year. If he doesn't want to be an AFL footballer any more, I hope he can step away now rather than going through the motions for another 12 months.
