Try Jonathon BROWN, Michael VOSS, Simon BLACK just to name a few plus quality B-A Graders LYNCH, MICHAEL, LEPPITSCH, POWER Adelaide - McLEOD, JARMAN, RICUITTO then their B-A Graders, EDWARDS, SMART, HART The only team I can think of who were really a team who just had 1 real A grader to win the flag was the Swans of 05 with Gooes but even they had a number of B-A Graders in HALL, KIRK,O'KEEFE, O'LÓUGHLIN, JOLLY an maybe KENNEALLY

Sorry I think Jack is going okay an has taken great strides in his 3 years (I don't count his first year as he was still in school) he stepped up well last season, but Hurley will be a gem to in Round 22 2009 he was the difference against Hawks in a virtual elimination final took a few pack marks in the last quarter. Both will be good players an it was interesting to hear Matty Lloyd on 3AW tonight defending Jack from Gerard and Dwayne, Lloydy was saying Watts has been drafted for where he will be in 5 years and IHO the criticism was unfair his exact words against Malthouse were is Mick forgetting this was March not September

Does a Demons Perth Supporter Base Exist?
Pennant St Dee replied to Bleeds_Red_&_Blue's topic in Melbourne Demons
I was in Europe for the West Coast Game in 2002 but remember the win against Freo it was pouring down and they should have beaten s but let us off the hook and I remember thinking during the 3/4 if they dont put us away, in the final quarter we will be kicking to the city end with a howling westerly an driving rain we can win this. Thats what happened Vardy starred for us, I also think it was two or 3 years ago on fathers day we lost to West Coast by about 8 or 9 points but should have taken them, Crystal ball says Round 23 win against the Dockers to finish off the year. -
Does a Demons Perth Supporter Base Exist?
Pennant St Dee replied to Bleeds_Red_&_Blue's topic in Melbourne Demons
There is Joan and Rod LAWSON run the Western Demons and I know they meet regularly to watch matches at The Melbourne Hotle in town and also the Mighty Quinn in Tuart Hill, if you go on the website and join up you will get regular updates on functions etc www.westerndemons.com -
Just finished watching the game after listening to it last night and have to say he was not as bad as some on this forum mae him out to be, he clearly drew REID out on a number of occassions leaving a nice space in the forward 50, the tap over his head to get us a goal (sorry cant recall who was on the end of it) was class and done on instinct and I also noticed two other things when he went up in a contest a couple of times rather then trying to take a 50/50 mark he punched the ball to ground, instead of letting the defender punch clear he positioned himself well near contests to block defenders and/or provide time and space to his teamates Thank god we have a coach instilling the 1%ers which don't stand out on highlight reels but make big differences. All part of his learning process so really not worried about Jack at all.

I like it we are the oldest football club in the world with a proud tradition, lets embrace it while we move forward and create new memorable moments for this great club. Not everyone has Brownlows to look back on and lets face it the jumper changes every year or two, when your old and retired you can show your grandkids your blazer you got for playing with the Dees, can't by them in the shop son

FFS an elite ball user he aint but mark my words he will become one of the best run with players in the next year or two

We sat behind Essendon & Sydney last year and took 6 points from 8, in 2010 we like everyone else sat behind the Pies but drew with them and lost by 1 point. I think what WYL is saying is Carlton are not unbeatable and yes whilst they have a great midfield anything can happen. They do not have a great defence and West Coasts 3 talls also with Cox/Nic Nat resting in the forward line destroyed them last year. If we can break even in the middle or even get our share of the clearances Clark (Kennedy), Watts, Howe (Darling) and Jamar/Martin (Cox/Natanui) we will cause them problems. Having said all that I do have the blues pencilled in as Top 3 this year

Lets take it one week at a time, as others say 5 wins on paper look achievable, but we could lose one or two of them by a point or win them all by a margin under 1 goal. As said previously we just need to beat those sides around us and pinch a few surprises against the top sides. I am pretty sure we will pinch a win somewhere in the West Coast, Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney, Carlton and Collingwood matches. Just need to start regularly winning the games we expect to win and the rest will fall in to place

Thank Christ someone who watched the game in it's entirety and with an eye on the overall picture for the season ahead. Good post from one life time soccer player to another (although I also played footy for a good few years as well), you pretty much summed up the games very well.

16 top 20 picks on our list.
Pennant St Dee replied to Sir Why You Little's topic in Melbourne Demons
I try never to predict where we will finish because of looking at the draw. Lets face it anyone who looked at the 2011 draw and said we've done well we have Gold Coast twice and West Coast twice was wrong. It's not about beating the lower teams the games we need to win are those agaisnt the Roos, Dockers, Tigers, Saints, Bombers and Swans who will all be around where we are. Win the majority of those and pinch one or two against the top sides ane we make it. -
believe it or not its part of the new game plan, remember last year we would attack our forward 50 nothing on and look back towards corridor turn it over and get caught on the rebound. This plan is about kicking it long to the pockets and running it out to regroup for a stoppage and not getting caught on the rebound, I know it looks senseless with that NAB cup rule re out of bounds but this to me is clearly what we will be doing in the season proper and we are working on it, but still some tweaking required

I have seen a fair bit of Gaff at WAFL level and also watched him carefully for the Eagles, he will be a gem. Uses the ball very well and makes the right decisions. He is very cool under pressure and is one of those players that seems to have that extra bit of time. Not sure about giving up 2 priority picks for him but like others have said see what happens. He could have a great year and we will be forced to use the picks to get him. Cant see Carlton or Collingwood getting him they will struggle big time to fit him into their caps with their midfield stars on big dollars already, especially with Pendlebury coming out of contract at the end of the year. Essendon will make a big play for him IMO
-
I expect a big year from Watts so that would not be a smokey he came on in leaps and bounds last season and I expect him to continue that way. Going out on a bit of a limb here and saying Sylvia & Bartram. Sylvia - because Neeld has given him a kick in the backside that was needed and hopefully we'll see something similar to Stevie Johnson 2007 return from exile Bartram - as someone who hasn''t got much natural talent but will run all day and do whatver it takes to play and be the best I can, I sympathise with Barty saw really good signs last year as a run with player and I think Neeld will use his strengths and be well aware of his kicking efficiency as a major weakness. Change in game plan playing around the boundary where turnovers wont kill you as much so you can regroup will help him Sam Blease to go very close in Rising Star as well
-
I hope your right and 2011 made us realise having better talent on papero than other sides doesn't mean you will automatically progress. A lot of careers & reputations on the line this season so lets hope we see a backs to the wall/then against us mentality for the whole season
-
Nobody smashed Brisbane last year, this is a danger game lets not lose sight of that. They have talented youngsters and will welcome back a fit, Merrett to their defence and a fit Jonathon BROWN who we know on his day can be anything. Browny usually starts the season well only for his older body to catch up with him. Having said that we should win this game and it will show us a lot about our lists change in attitude or not, but to think turning up and collecting the points is a gimme would be a big mistake
-
Understand Martin has to match up with Jamar but from Team 2 I would have Martin, Bartram, McKenzie (depending on fitness), Blease and Sellar in for Round 1. Bartram could be our best run with player, Martin will be required as back up to Russian, Blease either running off half back or as small forward in place of Davey, Mckenzie if fit is our best tackler and Sellar only to be in Round 1 side as back up for Rivers should Jon BROWN get hold of us
-
I'm optimistic of him getting his body right and becoming similar to Paul CHAPMAN, has the physical means just not sure about the rest of the package would be interested to see a comparison between the two of them at the same stage of their careers

Brad Green speaks on losing leadership role
Pennant St Dee replied to TonyMelb's topic in Melbourne Demons
FFS can't believe some posters are calling it amatuer the way this was done. You know what life is tough, Neeld did it man to man with no BS and that is what I respect in a boss. I've worked under plenty of bosses who talk BS and fill you with excuses when you know they just don't have the balls to tell you really how it is. On one hand posters call for a change in the culture of us being a soft club and when we do something hardline it gets frowned upon. GF Day 1993 Kevin SHEEDY walks in and tells Derek KICKETT sorry your not playing today, KICKETT has not spoken to him since Seedy makes the hard decision breaks it honestly and becomes Premiership coach again. -
And 5 years ago the Cats were spoken of in the same sentences as ourselves, the Dogs and the Saints. Here's hoping

1972 Big year for me, I came into the world after going to the 1971 Kilkenny beer festival in my dad and leaving it in my mum!

West Coast players from their team of the early to mid 90's regulalry talk about the day at Windy Hill in 1989 when they got belted by well over 20 goals and they only kicked 1 goal for the day. They remembered the pain and got strength from it 12 months later 1990 a drawn prelim with the Pies, 1991 Runners up to the Hawks before being Premiers in 1992. Gives us some hope although they were virtually a state team at that time

Praha & Still Woey it's a Marathon not a sprint, we started from a long way back after the failed merge Hawthron got their act together 10 years ahead of us. You can fast track things and get a team that will push for the 8 most years without every really being a Premiership threat eg North, Freo. We finally have stability and we are on the improve there will be ups and downs and 2011 was a big let down but IMO it's just a reinforcement as SW22 says you don't get Premierships with high draft picks alone. We now realise that and as we have all seen the changes since the Kardinia Park game have been massive. The Casey experiment is a very good move and one we will see benefits of long term. So as frustrating as it is your a supporter put 2011 behind you and see how the changing of the guard goes but please if Neeld doesn't have us 5-0 at Round 5 please don't hang yourself unless there is a massive change whilst we will improve we are still going to finish anywhere from 7th to 12th depending on injuries etc but I foresee and end to regular beltings and bruise free footy

Our best player in 3 years time?
Pennant St Dee replied to Jordie_tackles's topic in Melbourne Demons
A week is a long time in football let alone 3 years look at the Cats from around 2001-2003/4 promising kids who now have become elite Scarlett, Ablett, Chapman, Johnson & Bartel not to mention other quality players from that group and 5 years ago around 06 who were Pendlebury & Swan
