Wouldn't say I am asexcited about next year as much as I am about 2013. This is a great get for the club which along with the natural development of players should see big benefits for our boys. All the talk over here in WA when Ross Lyon came across was the hope he would be bringing David Mission over with him. They say a week is a long time in footy I like what Garry, Schwab, Mclardy and the board have done. Kept everything in house no leaks and would not comment on any of the coaching rumours, very professional and now we can see a lot was being done behind the scenes. Forgotten all about the doom and gloom people were talking up when a former player followed the big schilachos on offer last week 2011 may well have been the kick in the guts we needed

I'm like the rest looking forward to 2012 and beyond, however lets remember he as he has said will change things and game plans etc. I just hope we don't have the usual people from this site starting sack Neeld threads just because things haven't clicked straight away

I have not seen any of Crouch or know much about him but one thing I do know is that O'Meara has a very bad case of OP that has hampered his development this year so if we do get him we can spend next year getting his body right

+ 1 WELL ALMOST The only thing I feel Lyon should have done was advise Saints on Monday he was going to move on, no one would have been alerted to the Dockers job as at that stage there were only 3 clubs looking for a senior coach, the media frenzy would have went into "Lyon to Dees" On the Tuesday or late Monday, Freo should have had the decency to sit Harvey down and tell him his contract was to be terminated. He has been a loyal servant to the club and they owed him that The conflict of interest with CPE looking after both Harvey & Lyon was the difference in all of this, had MFC been involved it would have been different Ross Lyon came across well in the press conference IMO., basically spelt it out I asked Saints to negotiate in April which they declined and the first time they offered him a contract was on Wednesday. Fremantle advised the press they first approached Lyon on September 4th and after that they had two meetings/discussions, so decision is made they were the first to approach him. Once I advised the board I spoke with Reiwoldt on the phone and drove to Lenny Hayes place to tell them of my decision and reasons. WA journalists have it pretty easy but he chewed them up today and spat them out

Neil Craig was good at getting his sides ready so far as conditioned physically and mentally and had some strange methods (hence why he was often referred to as the nutty pofessor) He is however IMHO not a great game day coach, opposed to RL who I think along with MM as the best game day coaches in the AFL I don't know who will be our next coach but Garry's silence tells me the decision has been made or that he is supremely confidant about something. Ask yourself do we go all out and put all our eggs into getting Mick and have no quids leftover to surround him with quality assistants or Do you go with the best assistant available Burns, Neeld, Sanderson whoever and have the money left over to surround them with experienced assistants eg Craig, Laidley or others out there and grab some other assistants with fresh ideas from other clubs I don't know the answer but all I know is clubs picking coaches all took gambles on untried coaches with Roos, Lyon, Malthouse, Clakson, the Scott brothers and even pre dimentia Sheeds

It doesn't say anything about the MFC, striker it says to me you are a panic merchant It says Ross Lyon was looking solely towards securing his future and started making his own deals 5 weeks ago, if the saints really wanted him that bad they would have offered him a big contract whenSaints were on that winning run, they only really sat down with him ove the last few days when the media frenzy led them to believe he was coming to us It says Ross Lyon didn't trust Craig Kelly enough to keep the Dockers interest to himself as he also manages Harvey and it also says Freo bypassed Kelly also to make sure nothing got out It says Freo are aware there window wont be open much longer either, Pavlich, McPharlin and Mundy are their main players and all in the twilight of their careers. I have seen plaenty of their kids at WAFL level and a lot of them just aren't up to it It says the murmurings in Perth about player unrest at Freo with some eratic coaching decisions and his management of players returning from injury had a lot of truth to them It says having a mining giant like Woodside as your major sponsor means you can pay ridiculous amounts for a coach and it also says the only person who comes out of this with their credibility in tact is Mark Harvey, had his side not been decimated by injury this year they would have made the 8 and this thread would not be in existance

A good reason to up the draft age to 20/21 years that way Clubs wont be drafting on potential alone Players can complete school and finish Uni or an apprenticeship and then have something to fall back on The players can play WAFL, VFL,SANFL whatever league whilst finishing school, uni & apprenticeships and be earning money as well as developing an understanding of how hard the ordinary working man has it. The players will come in with bigger bodies and plenty of games behind them I can see this my improve the ridiculous scnario we have no where 21/22 year olds come straight out of school at 18 into the AFL system without any regard for the average fan/worker do the initial two year contract then all of a sudden they are having big dollars thrown at them and really they are still only kids

If Malthouse is coming through some handshake agreement already arranged I am quite sure he will be all over trade week anyway

I agree with you and BB on this I think it's what we are not saying as a club that speaks the loudest. Very much an appearance of smoke & mirrors. Surely given it's some 6/7 weeks now we have been looking for a new coach, formal interviews and presentations would have been conducted by now. So there has possibly already been a handshake agreement with a coach involved in the finals. Including senior assistants there are a lot of them still involved. I am also still not sold on the Ross Lyon St Kilda scenario, all talk but no commitment yet. Very much I want to stay I have told you(the board), the players and supporters. If you fail to provide a decent contract and I am forced to walk the blame falls back firmly on the board

In hindsight everything was cruising along well before 2011, the kick in teh guts year we had may have shown us things don't just happen you have to make it, I think it was Yabby Jeans who said I don't respect your talent I respect what you do with it.

Different scenario that was a deal done in trade week, this was rules brough in for the new Franchise. Judd didn't walk as Richmond signalled their intentions to pick him up in pre season draft with the pick before Carlton. Had Scully decided to walk without signing a new contract GWS would have picked him up with 1st pick in Pre season draft and we would have got SFA

I do not believe we are a weak club, I do however believe we are currently in transition from previously being one of the weak clubs. As I have said in many threads a lot of progress has been made since 2007, these things take time. The debt demolition galvanised the supporter group. The shake up from the Geelong game/Bailey sacking should see changes to benefit the footy department and the lack of distraction from the Scully situation should see a playing group with no resentment to an overpaid 3rd year player and there is a lot of boys who will have had their pride hurt by 2011 The Bailey appointment was what the club could afford at the time, things are vastly different this time, even if we don't get MM or RL this time I feel we have the finances to surround an untried senior coach with experienced assistants/directors of coaching

This was very difficult to keep it to ten necause we need more players than that to improve, a bit of luck on the injury side and the old cliches of another pre season and more games into the kids I believe will see us get better. I just put in who I believe needs to play well for us to be a side that is competative every week and does not ever get trounced regularly like we did this season 1)Defence Frawley - interupted preseason this year but still showed class. He is a gun and will stop sides scoring big margins against us Garland - as above but shows promise and we need our two talls to stay healthy Grimes - just needs to play regular footy, we have seen what he can do but needs to get out there Blease - definatley need his line breaking runs from half back 2)Ruck Jamar - if he can stay fit and return to AA form of 2010 massive difference straight away Martin- keep improving take some load of Jamar and both can rotate through the forward line like Natanui/Cox Gawn - Just get a few more games into him for experience 3)Midfield Maloney - started well in 2011 but needs to continue over the season Jones - continue as he did this year better disposal would be a plus but can't fault his heart Trengove - sky is the limit for this kid shows class on and off the field with his marking ability you cold see him and Sylvia rotate roles through games from midfield to half forward flank Bail - I really liked what I saw from him before he went down and his game back against port was good Gysberts - Needs to add some size knows how to find the ball and how to use itbut lacks strength at this stage Bartram - Yes I can hear the groans already but liked what I saw at the end of season when he kept Kerr, Cotchin & Ablett quiet three weeks in a row. Not good with disposal so use his strength and if we get Ross LYON or Malthouse that is what they bring to a team players who aren't gifted just fit in with the structure 4)Forwards Green - Had a bad year but if he can return to 2010 where he was an AA 40 man squad player big load off the other players Sylvia - Needs to be consistant capable of a 50+ season Watts - Has all the tools and took a big step last season so just keep continuing Howe - Can be another Robbo but unlike Robbo needs to lock the ball in when it goes to ground Cook/Fitzpatrick need one of our big forwards to step up or find an older one through draft for 1/2 years Jurrah - A big forward coming in will take pressure off him and he like Sylvia should be a 50+ forward Davey - just needs to improve and shake the tag or get back to what he was before harassing in the forward line if he can't it's th end for him Morton - the new coach needs to find a role for him, has talent but Jetta - I like this kid and having seen him play with Swan District Colts I know he has a hardness about him I expect him to step up Tapscott - Was very good early on and the club needs to decide forward of back Add to this players we pick up in the draft and some others will step up (like Martin this season) I would love a Boak in our midfield

Maybe he's just telling them, end of season boys go and have a break but FFS stay away from school girls & leave your cameras at home

Word in the Hun (not sure how reliable) was that Jimmy was fuming when advised of the news about Scully going to GWS. One thing that would get to Jimmy more than anything was the thought of being lied to. He is honesty and integrity personiified
