WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY
Pennant St Dee replied to einstein251's topic in Melbourne Demons
Keep developing the side and win as many games as possible, the draft is irrelevant we are taking Viney and forget the rest for now -
Thanks for the report very much appreciated from us over here in the west. Grimes was in the SEN studios with KB and Cam Mooney this morning as part of the membership drive. Also good to hear Neeld this morning speaking positiveley about Jack Watts & LJ. His comments re Wattsy were interesting, he made a point of saying some boys from day 1 of being drafted have the agression and intensity and others take a couple of seasons to get up to this level. The way he put it across was he believed it would happen.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY

Great post, he is part of the missing pieces to our jigsaw. And a very big part at that. Take him whatver GWS & GC force us to do -
Never worry about who you haven't got WYL worry about who you have got, that is what makes the Cats good they still have the strong core, we'll get there we have the nucleaus of that core just keep the faith, that is why I like Neeldy he is doing things right
-
Mate I hate them but this was early to mid 2010 before Richmond had won a game around this time they put the cue in the rack and started getting ready for 2011 and changed there prep
-
It works both ways WYL you yourself have banged on about our lack of leadership from the senior players, Geelong have them so put our 10 most inexperienced players amongst those Cats boys and their would be little difference their kids are no better than ours
-
Maybe nothing to it but West Coast maintain they were overcooked in season 2010 due to overtraining in that pre season and getting their programme wrong

1) They are facts watch the game Cats v Dees 05 elimination final, it was reckless by King and an accident, in no way did White do anything brave, he was unlucky 2)Okay I'm just guessing then I didn't see the game your referring to!!!!!!!!!!! off course I saw the game and remember it well but that is one game and he didn't win it alone. From memory we won the last three to make finals that year after once again promising so much only to fall into a whole 3) I never said White wasn't a good player he was but he could have been great
-
Lets get our facts right the comparison with White & Trapper is two guys with absolute natural talent who never got the best out of themselves and yes White was very good in 04 from memory an AA in that year. Still stand by him never being as good as he could have. Wow he nailed a goal in 2005 and thats steely resolve is it, plenty of players have done that, ask Jordy Mcmahon. Get a tape of the 2005 final against Geelong it was a simple ruck contest from a boundary throw in the ball went loose and KING wildly lashed out in an attempt to kick the ball and took Whites head off. I don't think it was a case of him throwing his head where angels fear to tread but you keep playing with the facts. Check other posts I have made Danners left our list in a terrible state for his refusal to turn the list over, Yze, Trapper White and others all got games when they should have been dropped. In Danners defence the club did not give him much in the way of cash to assist with FD staff but with a few tweaks and accountability to the list at his disposal and we could and should have almost taken a flag between 2000-2006
-
With you here BB he has undoubted class and uses the ball so well, he is a rolls royce and just needs a bit of nastiness & hunger in him. He looks good in the VFL with his class and in the long term benefits of the club maybe even 4 to 6 weeks playing regular with Casey for 2 reasons To build hunger and make him realise he wants to play at the top level and get him used to playing the way Neeld wants so when he steps back in its second nature to him.

Dunn has a big body and Needs to get the defensive forward job on Hodge or Suckling

Patrick Dangerfield ... Let's get him!
Pennant St Dee replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
I understand somewhat of what your saying hardnut but Geelong have been doing it for a long time, 1999-2003 they were a basket case when a lot of their current playing group were new to the big league. They have been playing that gamestyle for 8 years now whilst we have been at ours for 8 months. I do agree however that not one magical player will turn us around, I think we are 3 to 4 short of becoming a decent unit. Dangerfield will be expensive and he will be an immediate success along with Viney, but on the other hand maybe targetting two from the Suns and start being proactive and hitting up boys well in advance at GWS who will be out of contract at the end od 2013. On that note very impressed with Toby Green today -
That is true Jamar has far less talent and the heart of a lion, White had an abundance of talent probably to much to warrant him working his arse off. He never came to terms with the ruck change to combat the PCL curse. We talk of our bad culture and from afar it is the likes of Trapper, Yze, White and similar gifted players who Danners stuck with who set this culture in stone and one of the reasons we are lacking leadership now
-
It's good in theory but if you loose a player ealry its a full game for him, look long term and give him another full game with Casey
-
+ 1 on this Maloney has not been great but he does take another midfielder from the opposition and has a big body to crash through packs. Sylvia was very good last week when he came off the subs bench but was found wanting yesterday. I think we may need him against the bigger bodied Hawks as we have no obvious replacement but it's up to Neeld

Patrick Dangerfield ... Let's get him!
Pennant St Dee replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
It's not his brother its his cousin, and he is very homesick, West Coast and Freo will make very big plays for him -
Hawks are not quick through the middle but hard as nails and they run hard, so despite Bail being off today he stays. Hawks defence can be exploited if Gibson is out, Dunn to nulify Hodge across half back. Sellar is the obvious out but do you bring Fitzy in to play 2nd ruck or go more mobile with Petterd forward and let Dunn pinchhit. Bennell & Blease also under consideration for some run off half back . Neeld needs to pull Sylvia asde and ask him for something I'd also play Magner head to head against Mitchell unless they feel he needs a rest Out: Sellar, maybe Tappy if Bennell or Blease are to come in In: Fitzpatrick or Petterd, maybe Bennell or Blease

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Round 6
Pennant St Dee replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6-Clark - by a street, marked, crumbed, chased and worked his arse off 5- Jones not as good as last week but worked hard and kicked a couple 4- Howe presented well unfortunatley needs to finish off his good work. Has been a good positive this year 3 - Morton backed up from last week looks to be gaining some confidence 2- Frawley defended well as usual but his disposal let him down otherwise could have taken 5 votes 1- Can't split Barty or Mcdoanld solid efforts -
Patrick Dangerfield ... Let's get him!

Not 100% sure but think it was Mark Robinson on SEN today who said he'd heard rumours a Melbourne based club was looking at making an offer to Dangerfield at seasons end. Robbo did not name the club but said he contacted the club and asked them, they confirmed his rumour and their interest but advised they were told he is likely to stay. Could be true or could be a club trying to put something to bed until seasons end -
JT has not been great this year, but thought he was okay today ran out the game well and is one who actually runs to support his players. He got a lesson in hard work last week from Lenny Hayes and on face value today took something from it. Will stay in on todays performance, Grimes still finding form and coming along okay, Both will grow into the role
-
Good post, the faith in each other will come when they trust there teammate to go in win it and lay it off. Dunn, Bate, Barty while not stars are doing everything Neeld asks and its all he expects. Good to see Morton going in hard and gaining some confidence to take things on. As for Clark glad we got him, great target, work ethic and attitude
-
Stuie you clearly don't like Neeld you have been at him since the season started, he has a massive task ahead of him, the boys knew they were in for a day right from the start, we got smashed down there last year and there was back slapping and congratulations when players kicked the 5 or 6 goals we kicked. Tackles & Chases are non negotiables. The Cats took it up to us in time on in every quarter which to me is fitness and not coaching, we do not have the confidence within ourselves to change the tempo in time on this will come. If you don't think we have improved greatly since Round 1 I don't know what you expect, every week there is improvement whilst we may have been better last week the opposition was not as good and the Cats at home one of the hardest tasks in the league. The fact we didn't rest on last weeks performance is something against the roller coaster. The Cats trust one another they have been at there game for years they know what each other are thinking and where they will be, whether Selwood is in or out those coming in know exactly what their role is in the team, that again takes time. We are not to many players away from dramatic improvement, a defender with good kicking skills to help clear the lines could be a fit Strauss or maybe target Mckenzie from the Suns. Frawley defends very well but his decision making is not the best at the moment probably a confidence issue. Another pre season will see the run and spread component, A bit of speed through the middle we have the ball winners which is why we are winning the contested possessions but getting killed in the uncontested possessions. As the team gets used to the game plan there will be less occassions where they all head to the ball leaving free opponents over the top The forward line needs a bit of work but Clark looks dangerous whenever it gets down there, Howe needs to work on set shots and Jurrah to come back - Davey has shown a bit but we desperatley need a crumber. Taylor and Scarlett are a class act but Clark & Howe will cause a lot of headaches to defences Anyway Stuie as I said in my original post, nothing IMO that cant be rectified
-
Beyond maybe D grade Stuie you never played did you
-
really, we never gave up unlike recent seasons, they could have blown us away several times but we continued to fight, last season we would have rolled over. Not a step back in my opinion unlike last season when we belted sides only to believe our own press and play four bad games the following weeks. Missed some very gettable goals into a howling breeze in the last quarter which could have seen us get to within 4 goal defeat. Did not see anything from our side today that can not be rectified
