  1. I love Jimmy and everything he did for the club and us as supporters, when Jimmy got sick it prevented him from finishing what he started. The big fella was a unique individual and I have no doubt he would have succeeded as he would have done whatever it took. I accept he is not exempt from criticism but board ceased to be his once he became ill and had his mind focussed on getting well, embarrassingly for the club we used Jimmy as a public face and figurehead, culminating in him appearing at the press conference to announce Bailey's sacking. Maybe it was his aura but the board should have stepped in and said Jimmy go away get yourself better & leave the running of the club to us, by all means attend games come to the club whenever you wish but we really need you to concentrate your energies on your health. Jimmy became a white elephant and IMO those in positions of power at the club failed to show leadership in making that call. The 186 decision was made in panic and the outcome in the end was wrong, CS should have went and whilst Bailey should also have been shown the door, I think the end of 2011 may have been more appropriate and the correct selection process for a successor should have been put in place. So IMO Jimmy was in no fit state to be involved in these decisions in anyway and the board at the time needed to make the tough call. As far as I am concerned without Jimmy and his efforts along with others during debt demolition we would have either merged or been moved, I thank him for that and to me that is his legacy to the club. There are others I hold responsible for the aftermath of 186 and where it sees us today. It is time for the club to stop making panic decisions and not react to media driven causes. On the face of it PJ appears to be doing this now, may it last and may we do our due diligence in selecting a new president & board, who must then leave no stone unturned to get the best coach (contracted or uncontracted make it happen) and have a succession plan in place to bring this club forward Red & Blue forever
  2. Peter Bell says hello & yes take that as fact!
  3. I had best intentions of heading to Subiaco tomorrow to see WA vs Vic Metro, but have had to give it a miss due to other plans. Heading to Subiaco vs Swan Districts in the afternoon, will be watching Michael Wood & Dayle Garlett closely
  4. Sometimes it's better to just keep some of your thoughts to yourself. I'm pretty sure Jimmy didn't intend to get sick and leave himself unable to finish what he started. There is a lot more I could say in response to your posts on this thread, but I think I should take my own advice from my first sentence!
  5. They recruit well and develop well, but IAH Scarlett & Ablett went FS before the changes and both would have been first rounders, I agree if you recruit well you can be set up for 10 years, Geelong basically set themselves up with the 1999 & 2001 drafts
  6. Thanks Don, you took the job on to help out a friend and your loyalty to friend and club must be commended. No one can doubt your passion for the club and your efforts in a difficult time for Melbourne. I hope you enjoy watching the Dees in future without the pressures you have endured for the last few years!
  7. Does this apply to Jack Watts, just curious, have you seen something in him in the last 2 weeks which makes you think there is some hope. I take note where you say on your player appraisal you may keep Watts once he is told/understands the non-negotiables. I think he has just ticked over the 60 odd game mark and I think it is safe to say he was gifted 5 to 10 in his early years when 18 months solid in the VFL would have been of greater benefit
  8. Agree totally with this, whilst I'm all for embracing our traditions we need to think outside the square and home games against Meth Coast, Freo, Port, Brissy, GWS and Suns will never attract over 50k even if both teams playing are flying. Time to think outside "This is the way we have always done things and this is our home", IMO it is a risk worth taking and I maintain games against Swans and all Vic based clubs be played at the G. The only need for us to play away from the G would be at Etihad where we are the away side or play at Casey if both ourselves and either of the Dogs, Roos or Saints were struggling. With that scenario we get the majority of the crowd and make a handy profit
  9. Wasn't having a shot as I know you were just passing on what you heard, just saying despite what you heard think about the scenario and tell your source in all honesty just look at the facts. Just on the highlights I accept Rivers wanted to stay and for Beamer the relationship between him and Neeld meant he had no choice Frawley is in a different scenario he has the luxury of waiting and seeing who the club brings in next year, so whilst I can't gaurantee he will be with us next year (everyone has a price at trade time) IMO he will wait and see sho comes in before making a decision either way if he is happy with the new coach, he will sign an extension as will Sylvia IMO. If they are not then they will walk. We have to get this decison right with the Footy dept - Coach, Manager and the Board, if we do Sylvia, Gawn & Watts will resign and Frawley & Hogan will extend their contracts Lets hope the club and PJ in particular nail this and we can finally move forward
  10. It's not a rumour, it's complete [censored], just think about it logically. He is contracted to us next season Scott Watters is in no way assured of being St Kilda coach in 2015 We do not know who will be Dees Coach next season St Kilda are on a decline & if Frawley was to leave it would be to play finals as money wont be an issue between us & the Saints If it was you wouldn't you see where things were at with your current club in 2014 FFS are we going to have to put up with 12 months of this
  11. Meth Coast in the last 20 years have never deviated from their method of taking the best player available, despite team needs. They have a philosophy of picking up KPP'S with later picks, rookie etc unless they happen to be the best available then they will take them should the option arise in the draft
  12. Thanks for clearing that up
  13. Jeff White 1997, Pick 1 in 1994 ro 1995 draft 1 to Freo!
  14. He wont coach will take some time out, I know he is going through some personal issues and have been advised those personal issues are currently going through a marriage break up which is causing him some stress, which is starting to take it's toll! He will either be at Meth Coast or the media
  15. No conspiracy here with ACRES did his AC joint in colts game for West Perth, will be right to play with their senior side when championships finish and he wont be hiding it's not in him. No way they will be able to hide this kid under the radar, will go 2nd round IMO
  16. Will present interesting scenario for the recruiters, we aren't really in need of Boyd while plenty of other clubs are so we may have a few options trade away one of the top picks for a ready to go mid and a later pick, while we use our other top pick on another future mid take the best two young available players with early picks trade both picks with clubs who finish higher up the ladder for a ready to go mid & their first round pick, giving us two players for 2014 & beyond & two young first rounders for 2015 & beyond who knows always a fine line in knowing what to do but would be pretty sure Freo, Lions, Port, Dogs, Blues & Hawks (if Buddy goes) would like to get their hands on Boyd!
  17. SONS - I seen him play earlier in the year for Subiaco and he was okay, not outstanding but just did the simple thing. I didn't think much of it at the time but when I think about it he made no mistakes and IMO it shows poise for a young man playing in the seniors. He wont play seniors now until after the championships so will be interested to see him again. I couldn't make the 18's game at Lathlain today due to other commitments hopefully a few of the other WA based Demonlanders got there today to see who shined!
  18. Happy Birthday for Sunday WYL I hope the club moves forward and make your 50's a lot more pleasant than they have your 40's
  19. I'm not advocating JK I have stated before I'm waiting to see the Ticket and what they propose (although well aware of promises and fanfare), I am not against somebody who is from another club coming in and taking over if it is for the benefit of the club. I think Jeff and those of similar ilk would be professional enough to perform the role to the best of their ability. Sheedy was a through and through Tiger but changed the culture of the Bombers and made them into a pwerhouse on field, David Parkin is he referred to as a Hawk or a Blue (was in fact a Dees fan growing up). I may be wrong on this but Checker Hughes didn't he come to us from the Tigers and set about changing our culture. Furthermore is he not the man who made us the Demons from the Fuschia's. All I'm saying is as we look as a club do move forward, don't be afraid to think outside the square and embrace change
  20. BH you do not know me from a bar of soap and the same goes with my knowledge of you, barring what I read on this forum so lets not get personal. I do not know Jeff from a bar of soap either but I know a lot of politicians and although I vote Liberal I trust none of them, have worked with many of them over the years and see through a lot of them, but they are a necessary evil. All I know is whatever Jeff's or other candidates faults I will see what they bring to the table before I declare who my preferred choice is. Jeff has plenty of positives and there are also possible pitfalls if he comes on board, but IMO we would be foolish not to listen if his intentions are genuine
  21. My thoughts exactly AF (good initials those) really wont comment either way till I hear it's more than a publicity stunt and if not what he/the ticket has to bring to the table
  22. Almost agree word for word with all of this
  23. No dramas with The Rev coming back in Footy manager capacity but time as coach past him by IMO should have done more between 2002-06 with the list we had
  24. I think what Fans are saying Tony is play games in Casey against GWS, Suns, Port, Freo & Meth Coast where we don't actually draw big crowds. I think we need to think alternatively to survive, entrench ourselves in a growing area with a guarantee from the AFL of our 11 home games a year 6 or 7 are at the G against clubs who draw a big crowd 2 to 3 at Casey and 1 in Darwin. Any games to be played at Etihad are where we are the away team. I know it is not ideal but we need to think of progressing the club and selling Casey 3 game memberships, to me it is better than seeing teh club forced to play 4 games a season out of Melbourne to survive.
