MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION
FarNorthernD replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I thought you meant missing from the Melbourne side. Couldnt agree with you more -
I'd have Michael Evans ahead of a couple in that side
-
Only 8 'mehs' from me. Michael Evans is an 'ooh' but yes worrying
-
That's a great read - thankyou. If determination and ingenuity can fashion a purse from a pigs ear and get a lead balloon to fly then there may be hope for the Melbourne Football Club after all.

You don't have to look too far to find a more disappointing player in the AFL and that is the bloke selected before him But there is something wrong with Trengove. He has lost all his kicking penetration and god only knows where his 2.97 sec 20 metre sprint speed has gone from his draft testing. Still got good hands above his head and still has the talent and leadership capabilities Get the feeling that one day we will find out what has been wrong with Jack and from there he will start to fulfil the potential he showed in his first year
-
I think I can beat that. A Melbourne supporting friend who is usually particularly cluey thought Fergus and Jack Watts were brothers
-
Allen Jakovich kicked 70 odd goals in his first year but was 23 years old. Darling kicked 53 in his second year at West Coast but we shouldn't go there John Coleman kicked 100 in his debut season for the bombers. Amazing, but was out of his teenage years starting that year as a 20 year old. Similar story for Hudson, kicked over 100 in his second year Got one, Chris Grant kicked 51 as a teenager for the Dogs in 1990 Disclaimer; Not comparing Jesse to any of the above just interested in finding the answer to H.H question
-
It is a nice dream Steve. After more than a decade of injury, interesting off-field choices and form teases Colin throws aside the maligned tag with a huge game in a grand final He should then self combust in a blinding light on the victory podium. Beautiful
-
Stuart Dew is the Swans "stoppages" coach. if he wants a new challenge he is more than welcome to come across on Roos coat tails The Swans midfield is everything I want for Melbourne; tough, skilled, organised and not over-reliant on one star individual
-
I think it his 150th against the Cats. I would like Colin to be still in the red and blue playing consistent footy on his 200th Go Col.
-
I would be hugely surprised if Jamar ended up on the trade table. You need a minimum of 4 rucks. Even with 4 if Gawn catches a cold this week we would have Fitz as first ruck and Sellar second against the Geelong midfield. Scary. You need ruck depth at a club Jamar also provides the experience and leadership that a rookie ruck cannot. Watching the almost 50 year old Ben Hudson break even against Kreuzer on Friday night, who knows, Mark maybe up for another 3 year contract at the end of his current one
-
He has the No.12 from that year covered. In fact the recruiters could have saved much supporter angst over the years if they picked 53 at 12 and 12 at 53.
-
Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but the fox commentators said that it looked unlikely Melbourne would get a priority pick at the end of the year. Does anyone know how they came to this opinion?
-
Yep, someone else was trying to blame Mark Neeld for not bringing Fitzy on earlier but he has obviously served the right apprenticeship Which is another reason why the year spent in the VFL by Hogan will be perfect for his development
-
It would be an interesting experience umpiring a game in front of 45,000 rabid West Coast supporters. A bit like facing a delivery from Thomo or taking the wheel of a F1 car. You wonder how you would go It is a thankless task umpiring an AFL match and the abuse would only get worse in the lower leagues. Somehow they need to increase the the pool of umpires. The quality drops off quickly after the first few top guys.I have always thought the AFL should encourage retiring footballers into the role. They, at least understand the game Having said that the standard of umpiring was particularly poor today
-
And it wouldn't really matter which one, just put them in a circle and spin the bottle. No matter where it stopped you would get a bloke who could run all day, who has great hands in close, is good overhead and tough. Pretty much they have half a dozen Nathan Jones's to our one, it is only fair they share
-
Considering their midfield dominance, the appalling umpiring and the loss of Chip it is difficult to work out how we only went down by 31. Think we have past rock bottom, but have thought that on about 7 different occasions over the past two years Gotta be happy about keeping at it right till the end of the match The Swans work from stoppages and clean hands are amazing The fox commentators a couple of minutes prior to the end of the game were saying we should look for a midfielder during the trade period. Sharp
-
Perhaps Buckley and Harry have fallen out because neither will tell the other just how good they think they are
-
Yes, I think he may be losing his plot
-
Could not agree more with the above post. I try to stay positive when posting but this bloke does my head in. He is a [censored] of the highest order. He seems to want to harm the club and seems to enjoy doing it. He can nick off
-
You are right 45HG it is a cracking round Brilliant write up too. Thankyou. Won't have to bother with any of the commercial summaries

Jesse Hogan Highlights.
FarNorthernD replied to The Song Formerly Known As's topic in Melbourne Demons
Brilliant highlights. You would not want to be in the tuck shop queue with Jesse, you'd have no chance getting to the front -
Depending on your opinion of Jamar and how the 'tests' test you could argue that we are only 2 injuries away from a full strength side (Evans and Clark) If we can maintain a vaguely settled side we could surprise a few over the next few weeks
-
Swoopers years at the club were easily my favourite as a supporter. Aside from the success he brought to the club his Melbourne side played a wonderful mix of tough, skilful football. It was a mostly beautiful era. All of us who were around at that time would remember it fondly However, as a director Northey would need to offer substantial skills to the board and not just be a feel good appointment
-
I think Mr Burgundy is saying that James Magner being turtle slow has not stopped Brock from being a worthwhile AFL footballer. By the way, Goodes will apparently be off the park for the next 6 weeks so we won't have to worry about how to draft Cale back from East Perth for the week.
