Time Trials - Friday 10th January, 2014
FarNorthernD replied to jayceebee31's topic in Melbourne Demons
Only till CC TV later reveals that he secretly hopped on a bus for the middle 2,800m -
I remember being in the seated section of Victoria Park as a kid in the 70's. My father, as usual, had left me so he could attend some function. Phil Carmen was playing and was one of the first to wear boots that weren't basic black. His were white. At some stage "Fabulous Phil" got the ball and I yelled in my pre-pubescent voice "you're a poof Carmen" (it was a different era) and then my world shook dramatically as the little old Collingwood supporter seated behind hit me with her handbag. To this day I still reckon it had a brick in it.

I used to know a girl who worked a summer holiday at a fish finger factory. She never ate one again.

I got married the day Jimmy ran across the mark
FarNorthernD replied to pikeout's topic in Melbourne Demons
The only consolation after the Hawthorn match was that we were buggar all chance to knock off the Blues. They were a cut above that year Hawks ended up getting done by 33 and Robbie was pretty much no chance to play (although that point has been argued on here before) It was an amazing few weeks of footy for Melbourne supporters -
You win. I'm stuck in Tokyo station waiting for bullet train to Hiroshima that has been cancelled because of a fire at a pachinko (pokies) parlour further up the track. Lots and lots of people here, no bananas

Hope the 26 years of marriage has been better than what your football team has dished up -

FarNorthernD replied to pikeout's topic in Melbourne Demons
It did suck and there were so many little things that could have gone right that would have changed the result. Having said that the previous few weeks were a blast -
If they both can replicate those stats in round 1 we should be looking at a first up win.

I remember it too. On match day I spent a lot of time after the first quarter playing kick the can against other kids in the bowels of the G whilst my father spent a lot of time with his mates in the bar. Unfortunately it didn't get much better for another decade by which time I was in the bar with Dad.

If PJ does finish up sooner rather than later, given his record with us so far, do you think he will leave us in the lurch or will depart professionally with a suitable replacement ready to take over? Ditto for Roos. He has stated that if he doesn't achieve ultimate success with us he is quite happy to leave it for the next coach. Given that he hasn't rushed his replacement and put in an unsuitable candidate, this indicates that he is willing to will wait to have the right person in charge before he leaves. The succession plan was his idea and a factor in him taking the job To think either of these men would simply wander off with a moments notice seems far fetched

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BERNIE VINCE

Jono Brown Half the recent Geelong side and most importantly to us Robbie Flower -
That's the spirit! Love it. And if we do we will be in the top 3 at least. Blow the hooter and start finals in Round 4

It is a hard one. Pokies are a blight on society and I hate what they have done to the local pub. Yet I shudder to think where the club would be without that $7m and would also love to see revenue grow

My Heart Beats True - 2014 Membership Campaign Launched
FarNorthernD replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I would say 40k is ambitious, but if we enter unknown territory by actually winning a couple of early season games perhaps the bandwagon will fill -
Sorry Jack but that is rubbish. The universe won't collapse today. It is just stupidity to think so We all know it will collapse with three minutes to go in the Grand Final with Melbourne up by 19 points and Hogan lining up from inside the square to kick the sealer

2014 AFL Free Agents - Who do you like?
FarNorthernD replied to ignition.'s topic in Melbourne Demons
We need another key back as well as keeping Frawley, so I voted for Ben Reid. Will still be only 25 years old at the end of next season, good build, ex AA and good height at 195cm. Sign him up -
Loved the photos six6six Thanks Great shots of many of the new recruits. Blond haired kid is Harmes?

Training - Wednesday 11th December, 2013
FarNorthernD replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Very much appreciate the report m'kaaay. There seems to be a consensus across the training updates that JKH is an impressive recruit. Perhaps round 1 is a possibility for him God knows we need a good small fwd -
After six years of watching our football team descend into a shambles it was a miracle to reach record membership in 2012 For it to only fall just over 6% last year with everything hanging over the club is a credit to both the efficiency of the membership department and to the resilience of the members With a couple of morale boosting early season wins next year I say 40,000 isn't out of reach

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - ALEXIS GEORGIOU
FarNorthernD replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I wish Alexis every success. However, he is (I'm guessing) about pick 120 overall. If he ends up playing more than 10 games for the club he should be adjudged an huge success -
Junior said something similar after winning one of his Blueys. He wasn't keen to win the Clubs top individual award again because If he did then it showed the club wasn't improving Little did he know that his 2006 win would be seen as somewhat of a year high point for at least the next 7 seasons

So Clark is re-gaining fitness, Hogan is apparently 'training the house down' but what about the third member of the triumvirate of terror - Dawes. Anyone got an idea as to when he could be expected back in full training? I am so looking forward to watching the 3 of them jog into the forward line before the bounce round one. A proper man sized forward line. Actually XXXL. No more Brad Green as a focal point or robbing the back line of Col Garland or watching Jack Watts get monstered in one on ones. No more getting bullied, no more bruise free footy. Nup Just 3 genuinely big blokes who all have go, who can all play smart footy and who are all aggressive to man and ball.. I am hoping it will be a Melbourne like none we have seen before

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRISTIAN SALEM
FarNorthernD replied to Freddy Fuschia's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes, Kelly's profile reminds me of a former light bodied, running machine who also lacked kicking penetration. I think we may have chosen him with our first pick a few years ago, but he doesn't play for us anymore. Can't remember his name http://truezebras.net/2013/11/23/dragons-draft-profile-josh-kelly/ -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRISTIAN SALEM
FarNorthernD replied to Freddy Fuschia's topic in Melbourne Demons
Love that on draft tracker they said Salem rarely missed when having a shot on goal. There are only a few better things in this world than a goal kicking midfielder
