  1. For me Pickles is a part of the big IFs. If we can get Clark, Dawes and Hogan together in a fully functioning forward line. If we can pick up an A class midfielder over the trade season. If Evans can get his back/hips/feet to hold together for more than 3 weeks then we could see significant improvement in the Dees I rate him and hope he will become a valuable member of a successful Melbourne midfield
  2. I was unsure when he first came to the club about his value. I am now sold and think his influence will be significant. He is a big man who will relish his upgraded leadership role from what he had at Collingwood As others have said IF we can get the triumvirate of terror fully functional god help the leagues back lines.
  3. I have been a big fan of Joel's since his first game with us. Yes, his disposal was occasionally tragic but you would never see any half hearted, head ducking one time efforts that we see from other players still on our list. He gave nothing less than his all at every contest and as a supporter you cannot ask for anymore. Good luck in your future endeavours Joel
  4. I 'liked' both your posts even though they are diametrically opposed viewpoints. They can both be simultaneously correct Such is the enigma, riddle and mystery of Colin
  5. I'm with you. Stuff softly, softly. He's going to be the bigger, stronger, fitter, angrier version of Jack Darling who we mourn we missed out on a few years back We don't need a priority pick. IF Dawes and Clark actually get onto the park Jesse will be playing on the oppositions 3rd tall. Good luck with that. Goodbye bruise free footy
  6. Keith Greig a dual Brownlow medallist. That still upsets me
  7. Easily my favourite MFC video. I defy anyone who sees that footage for the first time to definitely say Robbie was naturally left or right footed or left or right handed. And that was not a highlights package, it was how he played every week. He made good opposition players look very mortal God I wish we had a Robbie playing for us today
  8. I'm a bit the same. Article below says 187cm midfielder, so good size and 2.8sec 20m sprint so quick. Also remember seeing video of Maia playing volleyball and he had a humungous leap on him. As for actually having any football ability did anyone see him play this year (KC?) or chat to him. Hopefully he is spending 24 hours a day with a football in his hands as he obviously has raw talent Dees sign scholarship player
  9. I think you could safely add picks 17 and 19 into that bet with no chance of your rrse getting cold or your vocal cords warm
  10. Back Pocket, is this your way of telling us that Dustin Martin is definitely not coming to the club?
  11. I'm same, but unfortunately Hawthorn have the right group of players, at the right age and with the prerequisite number of disappointments behind them to spur them on. They have under performed over the past years. Now is their time Freo time is yet to come
  12. Sometimes he does such dumb things on the field that no 100 game player should do. 5 minutes later he will partially redeem himself with some good play and look like he belongs out there Honestly I don't know what to make of him If he can eliminate the bad, he may become a good, average footballer
  13. Thankyou, that was brilliant to watch. There was always so much anticipation whenever he was around the ball. He had magic in to spare. Such a shame that he is so flawed in other areas of his life.
  14. The old girl is still alive. Roos has hopefully loaded the dice in our favour but without sustainable improvement both on and off field I still fear for her mortality. This is our best last throw Go my beautiful club!
  15. Impressive. 2 secs outside the world record for a 12 year old. If you had done that time a year earlier you would still hold the gong
  16. No one can say that Brad didn't eke out every last single drop of footballing ability out of his career. Often it is these type of blokes who make the best coaches as opposed to the Stevie J types who can't understand why everyone can't dodge 4 tackles and then kick the game-saving miracle boomerang from 45 out on the boundary. Also Brad came out with one of the all time best lines when he reportedly said to Barry Hall at the beginning of a Sydney match in Sydney "I'm not playing on you, you're playing on me" and then actually beat him on the day. That takes some nerve Anyway just trying to find some positives aside from Pia. Good luck Brad
  17. I can't remember which senior player said that Jimmy was the type of personality you wanted at the club. Bubbly, smiley, personable and always looking to improve As others have mentioned in the other Toumpas thread he should come on in leaps and bounds with an injury free pre-season. I reckon he will become a crowd favourite when he gets a few more games under his belt
  18. True. Even Melbourne could not stuff up developing Jack into a better player. They don't even have to do anything. Just tell Jack to stay within a couple of metres of Nathan Jones at every training session and let his competitiveness and desire to improve do the rest
  19. Nathan's kicking has improved substantially over time. In past years you could sense he had attended the Cam Bruce school of helicopter passing. Now it is closer to elite and on both feet. His field kicking has improved more than any other Melbourne footballer that I can think of. Perhaps there is still hope for the Dan Nicholsons of this worldEdit. Apologies, there is, of course, no hope for Dan. I should have used someone like Jack Grimes as the example
  20. At his best Liam was brilliant to watch and the fact we stole him from the Pies made him almost perfect. He could do things on the field that seperated him from even other indigenous players and Stevie J. If he reformed his past ways every team would take him. If not he is a distraction that our club can't afford. Classic risk versus reward
  21. Love the Daily Maggot. A very welcome return
  22. I like the clips of the week and hope that crisp ball movement becomes our trademark Can't get my head around the term 'key learnings' though
  23. Someone in a past thread pictured Laidley as that highly strung school kid at the traffic lights repeatedly pushing the walk button until the lights changed. I like his intensity and passion. Also lauded as a great game day coach which isn't something we can boast since Northey?? I reckon we could do worse than Dean but I would still prefer Williams or Eade
  24. This is brilliant news. A rather large cog fitting into the gear. A mobile 208cm ruckman with better than reasonable skills decides he wants to stay. We should all be celebrating If, and it is a big if, he stays healthy Max could become a dominant force in the league He is also a character, that gives a club life. We need more of these I'm stoked.
  25. I am not superstitious and I am sure we are cursed. The weight of evidence is overwhelming
