  1. Does anyone get the feeling that articles like the following are a ploy by Collingwood to put other teams off Mick Malthouse? http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/neeld-is-a-mini-mick-pendles-says/story-e6frf9jf-1226114058203
  2. Judd is a step above every other player in the competition. He drags his side kicking and screaming to a new level. The epitomy of leadership.
  3. I've always loved the way Luke Ball goes about it but we had no chance.
  4. Yeah, Marngrook is great. The guests don't rate it so you get the odd slip of the tongue.
  5. Yeah, I agree. It makes no sense to say that you've either coached a premiership or you're useless. Surely, there's got to be a hell of a alot of good coaches who haven't won a premiership. Rodney Eade's consistent top four finishes in a club that doesn't spend nearly as much money as recent premiership sides certainly shouldn't be seen as a failure. A club like Melbourne should see a record like that as a step in the right direction. When was the last time we appointed a coach who had come off the back of such a record? I still believe in the list of on-field talent we've accrued. The Bulldogs are a club with a similar recent history to ours. If Eade could do the same job with us as he did with the Dogs, wouldn't we be well placed for a shot at a premiership??
  6. The only measure of success that people seem to have on here is premierships. So, let's have a look at the question in a new light - everyone seems to be in agreement that we want an experienced coach. None of the premiership coaches are available, so your choices are Laidley, Eade and Ayres. Are there others?
  7. This can't go unrewarded. Well done Cap'n.
  8. Richmond, Port and Melbourne have all played a game or two at Darwin this year. There have been a total of 21 games played following each teams trip north and of those 21 games, only one has been a victory with Richmond beating Brisbane in round 13. Is there something in this? If it is having a negative effect, is the 1 million dollars enough compensation for this?
  9. God I hate that analogy. It suggests that the players are not at the heart of a football club. That is all.
  10. Yeah and I certainly don't want to say that Malthouse is not a good or even great coach. I guess my main point is that different clubs have different circumstances. Rodney Eade has also taken the Dogs to multiple top 4 finishes but he hasn't had an opportunity at a great club. Theres a little bit of luck involved when the coaching roundabout starts-a-swingin'. I reckon if a club gets everything in order, a good coach is just icing on the cake.
  11. I think there is talk of both a trade and draft mid-season. Damien Barrett mentioned something about VFL players getting a crack mid-season.
  12. Don't agree with that one Ned. I think the title 'premiership coach' is overused. They're premiership clubs. As an example, Malthouse has won premierships with both West Coast and Collingwood. At the time of their success, both of these clubs were at the forefront, in off-field terms. They were both putting large amounts of money into their football departments and both had fantastic supporter bases. Malthouse had a stint at Footscray/Western Bulldogs but to no avail. Let's not over rate the coaches. These guys are all reading from the same handbook, so to speak. Dean Bailey was removed to appease us and potential sponsorship not because they thought he wasn't the best guy for the job. I don't believe our club will win or miss out on premierships based on our choice of coach.
  13. I reckon Brad Green has been treated pretty badly. He's not captain material, so what?. Not everyone is. He's a good player who had an exceptional season last year in a below average team. We need to keep players of his experience.
  14. I really like that he's not putting himself forward for the job. I think the fact that he harbours no personal ambitions will be helpful in unifying the club over the next 5 weeks. The more people that have the clubs best interests at heart, the better.
  15. Yeah maybe but I do think you have to take into account resources. We can't simply say that the best coaches are the ones who win premierships because that theory ignores so many factors at a football club. I think with the right people around and with competitive resources, our list has the potential to be much stronger than the Doggies ever were under Eade and they were consistent top 4 performers. In my opinion, Eade would be a solid choice.
  16. Agree with you wholeheartedly but the problem you have is selling it after a loss like that. The media and to a smaller extent 'supporter' websites like this one are baying for blood and they have the club admin by the balls. Sponsorship and Membership is the bottom line. Whoever coaches this side is going to have success, it's just a shame that we now hand it all to someone on a silver platter. It just doesn't seem right.
  17. The truth is always somewhere in the middle. Take a little of everything above and you'd be on the money as to why we're not as successful as we should be. Everything needs to be right.
  18. I've stayed out of the debate about new coaches but as it looks like we officially need someone, I would throw a vote in for Rodney Eade. If you look at past premiership winning coaches, they've all had a ridiculous amount of resources (especially in the footbal department) at their disposal. With that in mind, it would not be too far fetched to suggest that Eade's achievments at the Dogs are the equal of those coaches of more well resourced clubs.
  19. I agree that Green has had rough year but, I'm totally against getting rid of any of our experienced older players. One, two or even three experienced leaders can't drag a team along by themselves. We need 7-8 of them. Our leadership group contains young inexperienced players, because our list has a serious imbalance. Some would argue that this is a youth policy aimed at creating a strong group in the future and there is certainly merit in the concept but to become great leaders, young men need to be exposed to great leadership, not by an authorative figure, like a coach, but by his peers. Sacking our coach, CEO or any other administrative position are not moves made to help our club win more games directly, they are simply moves to appease sponsors and of course you and I. They are money moves. I must admit, I'm a disappointed man tonight. Would have loved to have seen our club show some courage and weather the storm, at the very least until the end of the year. But, having said all that, I understand that if this site is an example of the sentiments of the supporter base, I am overwhelmingly outnumbered in my views. I truly believe there are still great times ahead.
  20. After all is said and done, it's still just a game. We may as well laugh..
  21. It was embarrassing enough having the numbers of members who voted for this orginally bandied around in the papers without us bringing it up again. This was once a great club and it will be again. One loss, no matter how bad, will not change that. Go Dees!!
  22. So let me get this straight. A football team of 22 players goes out to play a game of football led by a coaching staff of what (7-10??) people put in place by board of however many and you think that the blame for the poor performance of said team is as much the fault of commoners sitting at their computers talking garbage as it is their own???
  23. WTF!! He's clearly taking the [censored]. Sucked in!!
