The problem I have with this view is that it lacks objectivity. If you remove players who make life mistakes from your thinking A. You don't have many players left to choose from and B. You don't choose the best person or player for the job.

I disagree with the sentiment about GWS. I think the AFL has made a smart long term move, going into the heart of Sydney's Rugby League and Soccer territory. Sure, it will be at a high cost short term, but the AFL has the money and at least they are using it to expand and develop the game. Some will argue that Tasmania should have a team, but although they probably deserve a team, they are seen as already being supporters of the league and more specifically, of Melbourne clubs who are in dire need of the extra support. Tasmania would be a token, not neccessarily an expansion of our great game.

If it wasn't for the Darwin game, I would be rapt with this draw. I really hope they're planning a way out of there in the next few years as it places our entire season in jeopardy.

I reckon Martin has to stay as a ruckman. His strength is to run and jump. He doesn't excel at any of the other skills of the game. Note, when he was a backman, he did ok as a designated spoiler but his marking ability was not quite there. Imo, This rules him out as a forward. The ruck gave him a great chance to use his athletic skills and it paid off massively. Funnily enough, we don't need that much from Mitch Clark. If he competes hard and kicks the odd goal things will fall into place.

Black would be great. I'd love to see us get in some leadership like that short term. Would be a massive boost for the young'n's. Getting four years out of him is unlikely but also unnecessary. I don't think the club would go down this sort of path but hey it's fun to speculate.

I think you're right but still worth enquiring. We certainly rattled Mitch Clark with our offer and sometimes the reason for leaving could be hidden, You're not exactly going to say "Hey coach, can you trade me?, this place is a s@#t hole"

I don't doubt Fev's ability but our forwards need to play on the best defenders in order to get better. Fev is a short term solution that will take opportunities away from other, more important players who will be there when our time comes. If we were to recruit mature age players I'd like to see guys with leadership skills to nurture the younger blokes.

When interviewed on trade week radio, Clark's manager said that Ross Lyon's plan to play Mitch at Centre Half Forward was very appealling. If my memory serves me well, he was drafted as a forward. Not sure why there's so much talk about Martin. We can have our cake and eat it too. I would love to see him in Red and Blue - It's time to get some experience in.

I don't believe Warnock is a list clogger. I reckon he's a good backman and deserves a weekly game somewhere in the league. I wouldn't mind if it was in our side.

The talk about Tapscott is interesting. Given that he was drafted as a forward I would imagine his upside as a backman would be quite substantial. We may also find that our new coach has different ideas. Maybe he'll play him forward. It's on this basis that I would say Tapscott is not yet trade worthy because we don't know what we are giving up...Is he an excess back or a much needed forward?
