  1. Add much faster and more slick with their work and finishing. We seem to recruit slow small mids without tricks and not big enough key position players? Anyhow after events I saw at the "G" today, I was far from convinced about Joel McD and LD having saved their careers and would like to see Fitzpatrick , Gys and Davis into the side next week.
  2. Demondlanders being civil to one another, what will happen next? Good post Nutbean
  3. 12 pages already showing how subjective this stuff is for us on the outside. For my money its a keep for Gysberts - reasons - young has shown ability, has spent a fair period injured and may fit Neelds 'learn you craft' a la Collingwood requirement. Ditto for Davis, although whilst hasnt shown ability at AFL level yet but he has been consistent at Casey often having major assignments. His first year was a write off. Blease simply a must retain. Line breaker, goal kicker, beginning to really show the goods.
  4. And maybe Davis even Pickles if he can get his fitness up ( maybe a sub). Appreciate they need to earn their spots, but what have we got to lose at this stage and we need to know if they can can cut it?
  5. Hawthorn pretty much have a "strangle hold" on the Eastern corridor. Glenferrie, through Box Hill and accross to Waverley. The Eastern Football League I believe is the largest suburban competion ( ex the Ammos ). So there is a lot of Aussie rules played out in the East and Hawthorn have made a significant investment in it. I would therefore be surprised if they changed their strategy and left the gate open for somebody else to take their space. On the back of this the Casey area is in a growth corridor, the local investment and committment in things like Casey fields is obvious and is likely to be a growing market for AFL , particularly with lots of young families with young kids. I realise there are detractors but I'm of the view that the Demons strategic alliance with Casey is a positive one and also reckon its a great place to watch footy. I hope it ends up a good win/win story.
  6. Played very few games and output no worse than what Jamar has provided and the the latter was/has been given plenty of opportunity to produce. How about we extent the same courtesy to The Pencil. You don't win many games of football kicking 8 goals with a completely disfunctional midfield. Agree with posters who said its time to get games into Gysberts and Morton both have some size and are simply better players than several who went around last night.
  7. Only point of disagreement Spencer. Thought we lost it in the second quarter due to midfield and forward set up. We just have so may inbetween/undersized slow players. Masters of "Snow White" recruiting. Been the same issues for 4 -5 years
  8. Could be a reasonable proposition. Seem to recall own Essendon supporters giving it to him in the past. Maybe a 2nd or 3rd rounder.
  9. Hope Nth Melb and Geelong into a huge bidding war. Get into it boys and then may the "Oh sh.t" factor of getting the Demons to get rid of a first rounder to facilitate the deal come into play. Still like Caddy myself.
  10. Not sure about that one. He's out of contract as I understand , I believe he's indicated he wants to come home to Victoria and therefore could go into the preseason draft could he not? If that's the case and we happened to be the first Victorian club with a pick wouldn't we be in a reasonable position to secure him? Have I missed something?
  11. Would be quite satisfied if Grundy ( Big Body who can play) or Whitfield slid to us absolutely no problem there. All I was saying ( or was trying to say) is that there seems to be, in addition to the two you mention, other good , close to ready to play, options for us to take this year Toumpas, Plowman, Stringer, Wines etc. IMO and its only a personal opinion, I hope we go with drafting 'for now' concept considering the above players and or "bolt on'" options like Caddy rather than trading away picks and waiting for the 17yo's to come on board and then develop into something. ( Whose to say this years 17 yo don't injure themselves in the interim? or that even better 17yo may appear next year?) Seems to me with Taggert, Tynan, Cook, Davis, Gawn our development squad is large enough already.
  12. I think we have some good draft options as well. Our list management group will appreciate the great need to get it right with ready to go 'bolt ons' this time. Whilst the future under 17's sound exciting as they always do and as good as they obviously are, I'm not sure we have the luxury of waiting for them this year.
  13. Totally agree but you forgot the Swans , Hawks and Crows. Predominately huge bodied blokes. Take a look at the Swans last week. Pike, Mumford, Reid, Goodes, Everitt , Scott Thompson, Richards, Grundy. Midfield - Hannabury, Okeefe, Jack, Kennedy. They have a couple of outside runnners but they are elite and very sharp.
  14. Longer term could essentially end up back up a la Robbie Cambell, at a cheapish veterans cost. Added mentoring value a plus and the club have been fair to him. After reading a bit on here and a rethink, seems fair enough although initially I thought three years was over the top.
  15. Would seem to be difficult to get 12 new ones on the list, even if you wanted to. 3 Rookies plus 1/2 dozen normal draft pickes. Where do you get the other three from?
  16. I would think overkill . He's no Judd or Ablett. Nonetheless sort of demonstrates a position. However if you shoot for the stars who knows you just might get there. Couple of those Swans midfielders looked ok today, how about one of the Swallows, Dangerfield or Sloan. Whats Griffin up too? Lets not muck around with the "B" graders.
  17. Depends. Old blokes who are essentially at the end of the line, or even worse midgets need not apply. Geelong and others may try to overvalue those past 28. I really hope we don't fall for any of that with early picks. 2nd /3rd rounders maybe. Let's see what position we are in come trade time and if in a good place we might be able to have significant influence on the market. If it ends up with a major downside of either JV/Toumpas or JV/Grundy plus a first rounder for some one like Boak or Caddy I would be happy to be in that place.
  18. Davis in the best again. Cops a big job in the Magoos each week. I hope he gets a chance soon with the seniors continually losing. Last year at Casey he and Tommy Mac combined well together up back, but this year has carried greater responsibility.
  19. Like the cosy bit and the toughness/mongrel bit. Chappy acouple of years ago would have been fantastic, but at 30 what would we get? One maybe two years if he remained totally injury free. I'm happy to disagree on this one.
  20. Been a great player Chappie no doubt. But not for me now. Does nothing for our speed requirement, has had lots of soft tissue injury which age doesn't help, is not tall and I don't much like the idea of being a pension fund for those 30+. IMO I think we should be looking for real class in the 23 - 26 bracket.
  21. Wouldnt be at all surpirised if Plowman went long before 13. Sounds very interesting. Like the report on Grundy also and having watched the carnival like what he brings to the table. Both big strong heavy duty boys. Plenty of midfielders to pick from later or trade into. ( Boak, Caddy, Stevens maybe Beams)
  22. I saw things differently re Viney, paricularly liked the sidesteps, pace, delivery and fierceness. I suppose you could also throw in Garlet , Martin and the tall forward from WA. Toumpas was the one I really liked though and if we cant get him Grundy would really fit the bill for us. Excellent in the ruck, very dangerous big body up forward and some aggro.
  23. Ok,, I'll be happy with a small incremental improvement in 2012. I wonder when I can expect that?
  24. Worst effort of the season so far. They cant handle the new game plan of going wide. Just keep kicking it out of bounds and turning it over with no plan "B". I thought we were going to be "the hardest team to play against"? What bull. We started season soft and still soft but at least we haven't lost any ground from last year I suppose. I thought also Misson was a genius and going to improve our fitness? Half the list unavailable through injury? This is really a limp effort. Davis for Dunn, Gysberts for Bate, Blease to start ( and for Chr..t sake get him signed pronto, if you can't hand in your badges, the only quick player we have) Cook in also and lets see what we have got. Maybe Tynan also. Surely its time for some of them after watching this.
