All time Favorite Backmen at MFC
Dockett 32 replied to Red N Blue Society's topic in Melbourne Demons
Noel McMahon, Donny Williams, Tony Anderson great premiership players. Noel McMahon tough as old goats knees. Tassie Johnson my favourite however. Could kick it a mile ,great skills and duel premiership player. All fantastic though, -
Totally Agree. Bigger than Barty, just as fast as Barty, does not have injury concerns like Barty, is youger than Barty, has aggro like Barty and hasn't had anywhere near the same time to progress as Barty. In addition suffered serious illness in his first season. Barty has been a good servant but he has had plenty of time to make a real name for himself. Personally I like Davis for some reason. Maybe its because he was pretty much left with only Jai Sheehan down back to look after the key VFL forwards and they both stood up yet they are both just starting out on the journey. IMO I think the Davis scratchers are both a little unfair and hasty.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRIS DAWES

Wouldn't be getting too disappointed by that AOB. Like many others, reckon he's a 2nd rounder. Collingwood currently have the salary to deal with. -
Quite glad you raised that. My spies tell me we might have to fight off some other suitors however.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY

Thought the same thing last year and still do. Being BOG in the underage comp as a 17 year old was moderatley impressive. This years lot are a year and other attributes behind. -

Pressure might have just gone off pick 3 for Jack a whisker if reports on Adelaide wanting the highest price for Tippett are true. Could it be GCS please cough up pick 2 time? Hope so. -
Jeez I hope you are somewhere near right. Pick 4 would give me an awefull sick feeling. We have had a very long time to think about this and are in the drivers seat. Getting jumpy and handing pick 4 early in the trading period, over for two 'non elites' particularly with Collingwood having cap issues would bother me. It should be they being placed under pressure re recent hefty signings leaving them uncomfortable.Would suggest a rethink if thats where our current thinking is, however we must have faith in those pulling the levers and I like the patience idea.

I have hope that Davis can turn out a Grundy type backman for us and Viney a bigger version of Kieran Jack.
-
Absolutely. Keep em coming. Who knows whats fact and whats fiction.
-
A reliability question perhaps! Sorrry for the sarcasm.
-
Makes the tanking allegations even stronger I guess.
-
I question the lack of games for the time he has been at Collingwood. Doesn't seem like he has actually demanded a spot and we have a number of those types already. Not sure what he has or brings to make him special at 181cm.
-
Well thank goodness for that. Now we know why we finished 3rd last.
-
I hope we wouldn't be going that way . People like Kennedy, Pendlebury, Sewood and bigger bodied mids could make our already evident midfield disparity, even worse. This on paper seems to be a reasonable draft with plenty of decent sized mids to pick from and I wouldn't be averse to Grundy either. IMO we desperately need some stronger hard running players and bigger frames.

So do Hawthorn and Sydney.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JESSE HOGAN
Dockett 32 replied to Little Richard's topic in Melbourne Demons
Received an email yesterday thanking me for membership etc etc. Contained in the letter were words to the effect that we are only a short way into the plan.ie. I dont think Neeld and football dept is thinking "short , short term". I have a strong feeling they will try as hard as they can to get Hogan and if we miss someone will pay overs and we will still have a very good hand. The football dept have had a long time to think all this through and I trust we will fill a few gaps. -
War about to erupt between Richmond and GWS
Dockett 32 replied to The Great Pretender's topic in Melbourne Demons
I have had similar thoughts. Once they put $600,000 a year on him which was outbid the AFL was between a rock and a hard place in terms of compensation. Smelt like the MFC knew he was gone and plan was to maximise. I too am very glad he is gone. -

Keith "Bluey" Truscott - Best & Fairest

Tom Mc Donald 3rd! Good stuff. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. -
Lets be serious for a moment. Why would we want an ageing old star from Geelong or anywhere else, whose best football is behind them? Second matter Geelong is capable of and should be made to pay a decent price for Gysberts if they really want him otherwise what's in it for us? He's contracted and a few of us still think he could be a good player if he wants it, so suitors should put up or shut up. Chapman, Enright, Corey, Scarlett all done and dusted for mine. Vardy, Duncan,West or players of that calibre maybe. We should be trading up not down.
-
Hope they play hard with Gysberts. 190cm onballers are somewhat rare, he is a kid with upside and is contracted. IMO its a "if you want him you pay" situation. Lets start with Vardy who we should have drafted anyway.
-
What about the ones that were purchased? Mines a large if there is any interest. The affair is not what anyone wanted, but wasn't of our making. Prodigous talent and excitement machine no doubt, but the distracting ongoing 'non football' issue will soon be resolved ( maybe not how we had hoped) and it will allow greater focus back onto matters football. In the final analysis I doubt if MN or the football dept should be overly concerned, indeed they may eventually begin to see it as a sort of positive. Under their regime he has played only one game and the future was uncertain. Hardly a foundation and ongoing matter that helps a team move forward. Good luck for the future Liam, thanks for the memories they were great.

Just what we want another midget. Have you noticed our size differential? How about we go and get Grundy and begin to work around that.
