  1. Both clubs wanted him. Who won the race for Hale? Result we lost. Nth did not want to lose Gibson. Who lost?
  2. Hawks have a happy knack of putting us and others to the sword on trades.( Most recent example for us Hale, Nth - Gibson, Port Adelaide - Burgoyne). You can come down on a negotiation, you cant go up. Further you don't think Warnock would have some amount of desire to play with his brother and the fact that Carlton's backline is not overly strong. I think its worth running with this.
  3. Perhaps I was a little ambitious, but wouldn't like to go to the negotiating table seeking unders, as our wish will indeed be fulfilled.
  4. Economis - Supply - not a lot of big key defenders available, far more medium type on ballers. Demand - Most clubs need big key backmen from the GWS/GS through to some top clubs who need players of this type to fix/finalise their structure. B and C grade midfielders like Ellis are a dime a dozen. Confirmation of this is close at hand.
  5. Bound to make things interesting particularly for older players with the last roll of the dice.
  6. I think we would want way better than that for Warnock.
  7. Sorry RPFC but with the hand we have at the table I reckon his currency is high to very high. Big strong bodied defender who dominates at AFL level, did well against a monster in Tippett and has played some very handy games for us. If the Hawks want him IMO a trade for either Sewell,Birchall or Suckling would be acceptable. All non key position and the Hawks have heaps of them. Leave Ellis and a few others alone , one of these three would be ok. Otherwise let the bidding begin.
  8. +1 . Who knows we may have three quite handy draft picks, a surplus solid defender, a surplus ruckman, surplus mid sized/small forwards. We might end up holding quite a decent hand at the trading table. It sounds like there are already several clubs intending to trade Richmond, Nth Melbourne, Freo for starters so it will be interesting how it all unfolds.
  9. We haven't been able to muster too many honourable losses this year, this could be the day. Sadly it would help our drafting/trading position wouldn't it.
  10. Probably go the Craig Thomson plea, but if true, sharp as a bowling ball with looks to match.
  11. Sorry Nutbean but I think communication is important. Can't really be bothered in explaining why. By the way I don't believe I have said I wanted Aaron out the door. In this case however as there have been previous theories as to Aaron's ability or otherwise to play for Casey I would have appreciated and found anexplanation helpful. Robbie 57 type reply would do the trick wouldn't it? It's not a dirty washing issue, its about having a little information on one of our more decorated players.
  12. Don't agree Billy. I think we as members of the club ( shareholders if you like) are entitled to know the facts in this instance.
  13. If we believe this bloke is going to be a very good player as some other apparently clubs do, then the trade of a ruckman would seem a reasonable option in a trade with Port Adelaide given the Brogan situation.
  14. Sounds a bit defeatist there if we should want to go this way or even move on Gaff for that matter. Who knows where we will finish for a start and who might have the first Victorian Draft pick not to mention what will come our way should someone decide to go to Sydney. Further Jamar comes from Adelaide, can see Gawn , Martin ,Spencer, Campbell, Rookie ( perhaps) will all be competing for reduced ruck spots and just might think its worth cashing in now. Who knows, he could get injured next year and what is his position then.So now could be a win/win for all. Finally what have Carlton got to offer/ McLean? the Irishman? older blokes like Simpson, Carazzo some second hand defenders? ( Not all that attractive to Port Adelaide )they would have to offer pretty big player wise. Our window will just be opening and if Carlton doesn't excite in this years finals, theirs might just be starting to close. Butcher one would presume would be smart enough to judge future upside of the respective sides. At best we could get the player we want at worst we could make the bidding war quite a party!
  15. JF and CG have both had good years. Chip from a long way back and boy did we miss him early on. Both worthy of some thought IMO.
  16. They had better book a weekly spot for us at MRP then as his old man was made out of granite. Its all sounding very promising but lets remember he's still playing jumior football.
  17. Totally agree and not on any high horse. In most partnerships there are issues that must be worked through and rules of engagement established. But point scoring and re opening old wounds may not be a particularly smart way to go about it IMO.
  18. Would you prefer Newton or Fev as a rookie? Fev has form, but he's shown he can keep his nose clean.
  19. Spot on. If you want a real partnership to work you have to support your partner and not be selfish. I hope we have learnt a few things and do it better this year. Other than the normal slight chance of injury which the players have 6 months to get over, why wouldn't you want to have some of the younger players the chance to play finals football and accept the additional pressure that goes along with that?Isn't that part of the learning process? Seems very precious and uncooperative to do otherwise.
  20. Huge back pedal from Hawthorn and Clarkson. Good players make a good coach and he has been provided with them. His recruiting team have been outstanding getting Hale,Burgoyne and Gibson.(3!!!) MFC (Football Dept) haven't fired a shot in years in this area and are the perennial bridesmaid. When will we nail a decent one I wonder? Should forget Clarkson forever on the back of this little effort, but I doubt he'll be worried.
  21. There have been lots of positives debt demolition, new brand, new premises, new sponsors etc etc.Off field people have worked hard. The disappointment has simply been the underperforming football dept and a certain GWS issue that has been dogging us all year. Perhaps when they do next years plan they will have less peripheral stuff to worry about and can rip into the football dept and rebuild it and make it totally accountable from week one. In view of the above could totally understand any CEO frustration at this years football dept.
  22. Most unkind but funny.
  23. Good call and can be very dangerous. In the top half of the list.
  24. Agree but outbidding other clubs isn't our strong suit. Maybe if we finish 14th we could put ourselves in a good bargaining/trading/drafting place. Bring in the kids.
