  1. Really like this theme. Hope some of the bright ones on here tease it out. Already the old mans pay packet has suddenly appeared out of nowhere it would seem.( How can it not affect compensation? Its an addditional salary cost not previously considered) What else is going to come out of nowhere? When did the young bloke actually sign? Was the AFL administration involved? ( I sinncerely hope not) I hope the digging continues. The truth must win out here.
  2. You wouldn't wish 12 months of destabilization and frustration on Collingwood would you? Wonder how many pages their supporter site their supporter site will grow to? Should be a nice comfortable season for them all.
  3. As late as that?
  4. It's on in earnest now. November is outside the October window if as acknowledged the father was part of the deal all along. Possible corruption at the highest level of the AFL could be very nasty for its leaders. The official digging has now begun. A for the two concession draft picks what an insult and these must surely be reviewed.
  5. Yep. Simply told him the truth. 1. Where he thought he was at. 2. Set him a challenge 3. Is giving him/directing him to the resouces that can assist him. No kick up the backside, just a direct challenge to a promising sportsperson to take it to the next level. Neeld knows that if Watts and Jurrah take it to the next rung supported by Clark who we know can play, then we will be quite competitive.
  6. I think that has to be part of the plan, along with the structural change making it more difficult for us to be beaten up as we were by the bigger bodied sides last year. Changes the whole dynamic of the forward set up and I hope Clark has really sharp elbows in the packs. Doesn't however solve the problem of us being able to get the ball down to that area more often. Maybe a belief in theory "What gets measured gets done" by the coach will see our onballers being made more accountable for greater output, inconjunction with the contribution to increase their engine size by our new fitness man. I also think/hope that being another year on, a number of the players will effect a body shape change like Frawley did and with the same results.
  7. The comment does have a certain Nathan Buckley ,TFS, feel to it.
  8. You and Paul Roos seem pretty much aligned on the idea of a Total Rebuild being almost impossible for the reasons you have annunciated. Looks like it took our board a while to figure it out though. Anyhow maybe the penny has finally dropped and whilst we may have been somewhat interested in the GWS fun show, as we haven't paid overs, opportunities and our priorities could still be elsewhere. I look forward with interest to clubs with salary cap issues promptly resolving them, then I look forward with interest to free agency next year, then I look forward with to the first lot of Gold Coast Suns young guns coming out of contract also next year. Am glad we still have plenty of cash in our pockets and worthwhile items to trade in this unending game. P.S Hope if we go after those so far mentioned i.e. Lisle / McCarthy we would be talking only 3rd maybe 2nd rounders. Doesn't appear they would be future premiership winners from what I have seen so far.
  9. In view of what transpired yesterday, closing this individual trade loophole is simply a micro issue, I trust after it has been caught out , that the AFL has provided greater clarity to the clubs around what is within the spirit of the new meaning of being "on traded" and what is actually allowable. Daily rule altering like we have seen with the third party deviation and now this simply indicates they don't think things through well enough and look like theycouldn't organise a country pie stall.
  10. Bit silly the thought of trading Jurrah I would have thought. He has done just a little for his people himself and us Demon supporters of late. Further I have this bloody TShirt at home that I intend to wear with pride once we get moving a little bit. More interested right now in how we avoid being the dumping gound for others "B" graders and secure either a new leader in Goddard (might need to trade only one compensation pick and our first rounder) or one of the two highly touted 17YO's. (Seemingly would require the kitchen sink + players). Accordingly I favor the first option of a tried and true topliner who we know has the goods.
  11. Good luck to you both, it is a good feeling, far beter than the one enjoyed 16 years later after awakening from the knee replacement, but don't let me dicourage you. Now back to the Heathcote Chiraz thread.
  12. Not much of interest on offer from clubs at this point as per usual, further compounded by clubs probably not wanting (through any premature delisting) to give GWS any free players. Perhaps this year we could just use pick 12 for Dangerfield and do a Ellis Warnock type arrangement to bolster the midfield remembering the return of Grimes to that area. That leaves the two compo picks for a bit of dealing with the Suns next year for McKenzie & Toy who will be 3rd year players and cherry ripe by the time they reach us?
  13. I have no idea if he'll make it, nor do I have any idea if he wont. What I do know is that I have watched him at Casey a few times and do know is that he's a young kid who is 200+ , can run pretty fast and those types don't grow on trees. So on that basis with only two years on the list ( esentially one if we deduct injury) I think it may be premature to make a 'tough call" at this point, or even in twelve months.
  14. Agreed. Those two compo picks are a pretty valuable commodity and imagine the club will use them to secure something very special if available this year, or if not sometime down the track. Who knows with repositioning for upcoming free agency (creating room in salary cap etc) , probably to commence this year, we already have a reasonable hand at the table with pick 12 and a few trades to throw in with it if necessary. So doubt if we would pay overs for something moderate this year. Might be better to go for broke next year as our window gets closer.
  15. And hopefully the Collingwood forwards can support this urgument tonight.
  16. could of been a dozen if you were home
  17. Seems to me that we could do a lot worse than that. Buying plan A with a plan B option together with a little "Craig integrity" thrown in. Sounds promising.
  18. It wouldn't have mattered if we had in R.Lyon's case.
  19. Not a bad hedge though. Either we improve, which we hope and that would be good, or we don't and are very well rewarded for it.
  20. Like the change Rhino. There was a player!
  21. Decent of the Scully family and Fitzpatrick's feelings are understood. But the club might need to discuss the Scully issue now with Jack and all the other players to clear the decks and move on stronger for the exercise. It should also make the point that from its perspective it cant afford to be a soft target in any football matter and henceforth and won't be.
  22. You are quite right re compensation being set to a formula which as I understand primarily rates player age and proposed salary as its two main criteria. Not ability or soundness. CS deliberately let the cat out of the bag suspecting Scully would be receiving 30- 40% more than Ablett next year and is of course much younger? If the salary part is true, I dont think it is at all unreasonable that we should ask for greater compensation than was afforded for Ablett.
  23. Hale has indeed been a very good pick up for the Hawks as he would have been for us. HAWTHORN GAIN: Josh Gibson, Shaun Burgoyne. Picks 39, 46, 58, 69, 70. LOSE: Josh Kennedy, Ben McGlynn, Mark Williams. Picks 9, 25, 41, 89 GRADE: A Get on the Hawks now. They put a few noses out of joint but the end result is gold. Burgoyne, provided his dodgy knee comes good, changes the dynamics of the midfield. Gibson helps bolster the suspect defence. Won't lose sleep about saying goodbye to Williams or McGlynn but Kennedy hurts, given his pedigree and promise. DRAFT ORDER: 39, 46, 57, 58, 69, 70, 73 NORTH MELBOURNE GAIN: Picks 25, 41 LOSE: Josh Gibson. Pick 69 GRADE: C- Losing Gibson not ideal but at least have bought time to sweet talk Jesse Smith back. Couldn't find homes for Daniel Harris and Sam Power. DRAFT ORDER: 5, 21, 25, 37, 41, 53, 85
  24. Clearly believe he has currency and I hope we aren't Jellyfish at the negotiating table.
