Hey Bill, I think you're trying to count how many eggs a chook will lay before the chook itself has hatched. The talent is there. In the end it will not matter who gets the goals as long as they kick enough. If we have a lousy midfield, defence and forwards who think their job is only to kick goals the worst case scenario will apply as for last season. It's up to the coaching team to see it doesn't happen.
-
I'd rather see an A grade midfield all working together rather than trying to just buy one. Get a great combination going and suddenly at least one A grader will emerge from the pack. Too late to buy one now, get this lot working like they should. If all goes well we might not need to look for one. But no harm in setting aside a fist full of dollars to poach the next big thing. Just good forward thinking.

Some of those infrequent "own the forward line" cameo appearances Ricky has put in would certainly put him in the SJ class if he did it consistently. Similar impact, different styles and application.
-
At this stage I'd prefer to start with a clean slate. Let them all start at zero. I'll wait another six months. A lot of our best 22 candidates have a lot of redeeming to do.

I think our midfield is our biggest unknown quantity coming into next season. I now tend to believe we've been bad there due mostly to coaching incompetence and associated poor attitude and directionless structure. I think we have the players to do the job well to cover next season assuming they will be better prepared and drilled.

I think he's got to be a permanent forward. If the ball's not coming forward and he ain't getting a kick then he'd be good for a spell in the ruck to change the dynamics every now and then.

I think she's the misogynist. Any chance of getting her a date with TS?

2011 Player Review - # 29 Michael Newton ®

To put it in automotive terms he only had 3 Newton Metres of torque in his engine and he used them all up in leaping for that MOTY.- 101 replies

Steph Martin & Mitch Clark...
John Crow Batty replied to Sir Why You Little's topic in Melbourne Demons
Stef has had a great year. The player who improved the most. A versatile big man who also has a gift for getting the ball in broken play around stoppages. A problem now fitting in all the tall's but now we don't have to worry about Dunn doing any ruck work. -
2011 Player Review - # 31 Tom Scully
John Crow Batty replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I was on to his case from the very beginning. I have no problem with a player being seduced by such a handsome offer but the way he was treating us made my blood boil. As I was saying back in April he should have done the honourable thing and stood down or resigned once the cat was out of the bag. He still kept taking our money despite having 2 million available upfront from GWS and then malingered for the whole season. And how embarrassing it must have been for his team mates to be trotted out to the media every week to tell the world about his virtues. Bitter medicine for us but worth it because he is now gone. I hope we can gain strength from this humiliation. I imagine he will enjoy the cloistered life at the GWS monastery. Looks the part with his shaved head and his obsessive ways. And has demonstrated he can maintain a vow of silence. He can now train 18 hours a day but to ensure he does not get too comfortable I bet he sleeps on a bed of football boot studs. -
At this stage I'm not sure if he is a saint or a sinner after all the shambles of the past few years. I'll reserve judgement till the end of next season.

2011 Player Review - # 24 Liam Jurrah

Although I still have question marks on him it was obvious he was playing injured during the second half of last season. His great leap totally disappeared and he could never get off the ground in marking contests. Still he played reasonably well. He also needs the right people to get into his ears. -
Speaking of him, Ricky is one guy that needs a serious whisper in his ear. Sometimes he looks like he will be the next Steve Johnson. But most of the time he just sooks on the field doing SFA.
-
No! Not 31. It's the RDB curse. Should be retired till we win our next flag.
-
Ah,amazing how a recent premiership player who's only played a few seasons is deemed not worthy for us so easily. We sure have big tickets on ourselves. Must be his bad hair.
-
The big difference between him and our smaller forwards is that he can play to team disciple. As in chasing, tackling, doing what he is told etc. Does anyone on our forward line do that?
-
No perceptions are going to change until we start playing football with real attitude and commitment starting off now. Our respectability meter is at zero and well deserved. If we come to the NAB cup next season with the same insipid spirit and followed up with excuses just like in the past preseason that is's going to be a long season and we will get better as the season progresses, etc, I will scream. No impartial observer will be fooled like most supporters. Commitment, hardness and desire have to be the absolute non negotiable's from day one. If the likes of Davey, Green and Morton etc, don't like it then they can rot for the rest of their careers at Casey.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MITCH CLARK
John Crow Batty replied to waynewussell's topic in Melbourne Demons
Welcome to MFC Mitch. Not going getting too excited until he gets on the park. But great to see the club recruiting real men and that the days of recruiting skinny kids that need half a decade to develop are finally gone. -
Our relegation to TV junk time for most of the season says it all.

Should be in our leadership group. -
We need to get slapped around in the media. I'd like to see more. GD is only reflecting the sentiments of the broader football community. Nothing to do with hate. Just an acknowledgment of our bona fide inferior status. We deserve to be disrespected. Better to deflect our ire at the club. Would help our cause better than deflecting it at some journo who has nothing to do with the club.

If the current GWS offer is accepted and is not much different to the pre season rumoured offer then accusations that Tom may be lying will be shown to be very well founded. In particular as he has a miserable season and is currently worth nowhere near a fraction of that.
-
Wow, that is some seriously expensive roast pig. Who can afford that these days? Nah! better not mention any names.
-
I wish so too. Please guys do it for Jimmy.

How did you work all this out? Did you read the bumps on his head? Jeez it looks like Tappy and Trenners are not so smart as Tom or you after all. Obviously they didn't think it through enough to make such hasty decisions.
