Geoff McGivern, premiership player of the mighty fifties wore this number. He could play equally well at CHB or CHF.

Talking to one of our fitness guys, I was told that Jonesy was so very fit and that he could even be a smokie for the Brownlow. He has produced amazing fitness improvement according to my source. Have a great year Nathan.

Big Bob Johnson would be broke. He was the best stager I've ever seen! Always near the goals, always a resulting goal and mostly against Coll##@#@#d. Delightful to watch. RIP Big Bob.

Sorry to read that you are injured Jaded. Not soft tissue injury I hope! I also know that you wouldn't blame poor old Bohdan. Get fit soon.

Mine are fine too and have had a lot of exposure to the merciless Perth heat. Different batches maybe.

150 Heroes Book - Where is Frank " Checker" Hughes?
Bobby McKenzie replied to Tatu's topic in Melbourne Demons
Frank 'Checker Hughes played for Richmond and coached both the Tigers and Melbourne. He has received high recognition for his efforts. He was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 1996 and was inducted into the MFC Hall of Fame in 2001. Yes, the club has honoured his great achievements. -
Sincere congratulations to Aaron, James and Cameron and of course, their lovely wives. Give us a boy next time Cam& Julia!

How quickly we can forget! (Me anyway). I was really enjoying going through our matches in 1990 on the AFL website UNTIL I came to Round 14. North Melb 31.14 def Melb 10.13!!!!!!!! John Longmire kicking 14 .2!!! How did this happen? Our % went from a healthy 119.3% to a struggling 106.9%. This was a season defining loss and the damage to our % cost us the chance of 1st place. This would have saved us the tough task of having to beat Hawthorn TWICE in two weeks. Funny how I remembered these two games against the Hawks but not the North Melbourne game. Convenient loss of memory I guess. I agree with most of you that Northey was a very talented coach of the MFC and we were unlucky not to have snared at least one flag during his time.

Jack Watts ill with a low level virus

No, I'm not biting Maurie! -
Thanks mate. I should have read the other posts more carefully. I have deleted my post to avoid further embarrassment. I guess I'm too gullible. Happy Christmas!

Demonland MFC Team of the Decade
Bobby McKenzie replied to Diablo Deemon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Rhino, did you mean to have written Johns-tone? -
Bit of an exaggeration I guess. Adams was the Australian sprint champion at the time. No, it would be hard to make Aaron look slow. Sam really has pace and kicks the ball accurately.
-
When I saw the headline, I didn't think of Jack, I thought of young Sam. I have seen his junior football skills and this kid could make Bluey Adams look slow. It's amazing that we really have another pick in the top 20. 5 out of 20 isn't too bad! PS For the younger posters Bluey would have made Aaron look pedestrian.

Certainly not missing his ignorant views and bias. Maybe he will form his own forum and write to himself all day.

That's great news! Since you won the footy tipping High Tower we can count on your prediction. Hope you are right though.

I'll tip 10 wins.We are going to improve simply with the infusion of more youth. ( Watts, Blease, Strauss, Scully, Trengrove/Butcher, Wonna). Look how well we played when the reins were off eg Dockers, for Jimmy and the first half against the Saints. The commentators were praising Bailey as a coach during the St Kilda game. They said that his coaching was blending the Dees into a very competitive side. I think we must agree that our kicking and passing has improved greatly in the last eight weeks. We can move the ball beautifully when we TRY.
-
Keep him in No 48. We won a premiership in '48. Might be a good omen.

Thanks to the 7.30 report I was able to see that goal over his head! I missed the first 20 mins of the game. What an amazing effort. Came over as a really pleasant, humble guy and considering English is not his first language, he spoke quite well. Can't wait to see it again tomorrow. Thanks Maurie!

I too was stunned when Buddy got two weeks. It was just a collision on the football field, not even reportable. Lloyd's case was different, a little more reckless and reportable. BUT not 6 weeks!!! I am worried that the AFL have decided to take the bump out of the game. Of course, many would say that you can still use your hip and shoulder BUT if an opponent drops his head onto your hip, you are GONE!!! Gee, we wouldn't have seen much of the likes of Noel McMahen, Laurie Mithen, Ted Whitten, Ron Barassi, Jack Dyer, Mopsy Fraser, Mick Martin, Dermot Brereton, 'Dipper', Leigh Matthews, Charlie Sutton, Murray Weideman just to name a few tough guys of the past. Now, having just written the word 'guys', how could I forget Eric GUY? He used his body pretty well I reckon. Under today's rules they would be lucky to reach 50 games in their careers.

Nice thoughts mate. I agree with everything you said about 'Wheels' He should have been in our 150 Legends. A great role model for ALL players in the club. Not just the indigenous ones.
-
Basically, what gives us the right to criticise ANYONE who has much HIGHER levels of skill than us. We MIGHT be able to criticise an under 14 kid PROVIDED we could do better. I agree all the way with Robbo. People who rubbish our players are not only DISLOYAL but are just 'blowing their own trumpets' to gain notoriety. ( No, not just YM. He has sadly, a few mates.)
