  1. Dale Thomas soft????? Come off it mate. Love his guts, extreme pace, ball handling ,marking, kicking. Did you see him today against Adelaide when the chips were down? He was an absolute inspiration for his team.Would welcome him to the Dees in a flash.
  2. 1. Stephen Milne 2. Hayden Ballantyne 3. Chance Bateman
  3. Not happy with flooding and the 'keepings off' that happens in the last part of a game. To encourage attacking footy record 'points for' only instead of percentage. Teams will be ultra attacking and if the team well behind scores a couple of goals in the dying minutes so what?
  4. Yep, let's change that to TOP gear for the WHOLE GAME. We might knock off the Saints this time. I have a strong gut feeling. Go Dees!
  5. He certainly was a fantastic footballer and bloke. With Bob Davis on one half forward flank and my namesake on the other what chance did the other states have against the Big V? Very sad news indeed. Condolences to his loved ones.
  6. HA FUNNY HA! You haven't got a clue pal! Stick to gridiron. You didn't include Flower, Barassi, Mithen and co in your list. What happened?
  7. I loved Jonesy's first game against the dogs and I have since admired his fierce desire to win the ball and do his utmost for his beloved Demons. He certainly leads from the front and remember he is only a youngster! Well done Jonesy on your 100 games. Be nice if we can win it it for him. PS I'm not mad on his nude nut or tats but that's just old fashioned me!
  8. Great comment 'Choko'. Martin was a leading light in the gloom of yesterday. He contested all over the ground and his athleticism is to be admired. He will make the grade have no worries. I was impressed too by Michael Newton's efforts. He has taken a long time to develop but MAYBE yesterday saw the final breakthrough into the big time.
  9. Couldn't disagree more 'Bay Riffin'. I am a Physical Education teacher and Trengove's tackle was absolutely legitimate and fair. Just as I have taught secondary kids for many years in Victoria and WA. It had all the ingredients of a PERFECT TACKLE a) Arms pinned to lock the ball in and prevent a hand pass. b)Slinging or dragging opponent away from the ball to prevent the player from kicking or making good contact.( Trenners achieved both). It seems strange that the umpires were happy with the tackle which was right in front of their eyes. The injury to Dangerfield obviously has caused the ludicrous 3 weeks ban. No injury no problems. How can poor Trengove now be confident when he lays a similar tackle next time? Will he opt for the soft line and only half tackle his opponent? The timing was spot on and Dangerfield certainly was not slung to the ground behind the play. I am disgusted that the tribunal took such a short time to arrive at their 'decision'. Ron Barassi must be rolling his eyes in sheer disbelief at this very moment. With the AFL's present line of thinking Ron would have been lucky to play many games at all and no one has ever suggested that he was a dirty player! Shame on you AFL.You are bringing our great game into disrepute. Getting more and more like 'Aussie Kick' for 5 year olds. Appeal again Melbourne Football Club.
  10. They should! After watching replay after replay I am astonished by their decision. A strong FAIR tackle if ever I've seen one. He simply tried to sling Dangerfield off his kick which he did successfully. Gee, I wouldn't have played much footy if that was an illegal tackle. Come on MFC show some common sense and APPEAL! Eddie and co would. Sorry, I didn't read the other posts re the appeal. Hope it is successful.
  11. Bin Laden a human being?
  12. Don't tell me you think Bin Laden was a nice, family man. Jonesy is entitled to his opinion like anyone else. Most people would agree fully with his comment. Deep down, don't you?
  13. Sadly no! If they were still around though I would have put them in Demons jumpers and let them loose in the mid field. They had pace, tenacity and determination. Unfortunately, too many of our boys at present are lacking these important traits. Let's hope things will change and SOON!
  14. Agree fully on this one. However, although I have lost faith in Bailey as a coach I must say that on Thursday night against the Weagles we were absolutely thrashed in the one on one contests. It was unbelievably lop sided. If our guys can't win the ball in their own right it is hard to fully blame the coach and his assistants. He MAY have a game plan ( I've yet to see it) but if we haven't got the ball any plan is doomed to failure. Want to have another crack at coaching John Northey? Sadly Norm and Len aren't around to get us out of this mess.
  15. And the other Jack too! However, we all know three kings( Priddis,Cox and Embley) will beat three jacks! . Priddis was so clean with his ball handling just like my fox terriers used to pick up a tennis ball on the run. He makes Kerr look second rate now.
  16. Certainly a silly post. Olympic athletes, runners, jumpers, swimmers and many tennis players wear track suit pants before their events as a precaution against muscle damage due to cold. Footballers not allowed? I think no one could dispute the man's attention to physical fitness during his entire career. If you respond by saying no other footballer does it, does that make it wrong? Ever heard of personal preference or freedom of choice?
  17. Thanks for that info 'Warren Dean' Even a 5 goal loss and our percentage would have been still ok. Oh well, we will have to get over it 21 years later!
  18. It was a great season indeed BUT how did we lose to North Melbourne by 127 pts at the'G"? In an earlier round we had beaten them by 57 points also at the 'G'. My memory bank has conveniently erased memories of our huge loss. Did we have a large injury list or what? Anyone care to refresh my memory. One thing for sure, that thrashing killed our % and precluded us from finishing any higher than 4th.
  19. Thanks mate. Is that why my original post disappeared and I had to try and re-write it? I thought I had been banned or something!
  20. Thanks for the explanation. I have a physics teacher mate(who played footy) who MAY be able to explain the physics of what you are saying. Why does the ball bounce from left to right? If your theories are right why have I seen dribble goal attempts made by a right footer from the LEFT forward pocket or even when directly in front? A bit confusing. Also, surely a dribble kick gives the defender just that little more time to intercept. As we all know, a footy will 'sit' before rolling forwards and then 'sit' again. Surely timing would have to be precise and where under pressure the ball is struck. I liken this to the old spiral punt. Slightly miskick the ball and it became a mongrel old punt kick. Sorry, but my skimmers worked well for me from both pockets.
  21. Watched the video three times and unless my eyes are shot the ball was in the air until the goal line. Not a dribble goal at all.
  22. Very interesting theories indeed.I have a physics teacher mate(who played footy) who MAY be able to explain the physics of what you are saying. Why then have I seen dribble attempts by a right footer from the LEFT forward pocket and even directly in front? Also, doesn't a dribble kick give a defender just that little more time to intercept. As we all know a dribbled ball will 'sit' and slow down before rolling on again. Why does it do an off break anyway? Also doesn't it place great importance on timing and what part of the footy you contact. I liken this to an attempted spiral punt. Get it slightly wrong and you get a mongrel old punt kick. Sorry, but my low skimmer worked for me. Thanks for your explanations anyway. I appreciate your thoughts.
  23. If you say so '45HG16'. Can't agree though. Each dribble goal looks like a king size 'jag' to me with the ball wobbling all over the place before trickling over the line(sometimes not always). Can't see how a dribble kick opens up the angle. How? Please explain.
  24. I can't see the need for the 'dribble'. The ball can go in any direction once it hits the ground. If you want to keep the effect of the wind out of the equation what's wrong with a low skimmer on the full just inches above the turf? Surely this is FASTER and SAFER.
