The seeds of yesterday's humiliation
Bobby McKenzie replied to pitmaster's topic in Melbourne Demons
Unfortunately, our player management has over the years been appalling. Our so called youth policy is just not bearing any fruit. I really fear that teams like Richmond, North are going to push for a flag before us despite our quality draft picks in the past few years. Name another club who have sacked players of the calibre of McDonald, Woewoden, Robertson, Johnstone, Bruce, Jolley, Thompson and even Simon Buckley who is earning a game with the top team in the comp. Just what is our footy department thinking? I'm also sure that I have left out another couple of big names who have been given their marching orders. -
This is becoming ridiculous! I have done my fair share of umpiring and I have been involved in some sort of body contact with a player on a few occasions. Half the time it was MY FAULT! When are the AFL umps going to take some responsibility for player contact? Gee, at some stages there are 34 players and 2 umpires all in one half of the ground. Makes for a very congested scenario indeed. Come on AFL Trengove doesn't go out there to try and clean up an ump! Share some of the blame umpires.

Thought Jeremy Howe was very impressive in a dark day. He marked brilliantly and did a couple of good things at ground level. Jack Watts too, can hold his head up high. Sad to see Brad struggling so badly at present. Seems to be totally lacking in confidence, pace, you name it.
-
And 99,346 watched the Dees win by just 11 points. Mind you, I will be happy if this is repeated next Monday. Actually, a ONE point WIN would be superb!
-
Add Dennis Commetti to your like list. He is great!
-
Why wouldn't he be reported on the spot if this was deemed an offence? Didn't see it myself.
-
And boy, don't his tackles stick! For those who have never seen Barassi play, you are getting a version of the great Ron when you watch Jordie's FIERCE, BONE CRUNCHING tackles. Just like Ronnie! Gee, this McKenzie could end up better than ME!
-
He showed a lot of passion particularly since it was against the team he played for in his career. Something to prove maybe?
-
Carlton and Essendon have been down much longer than 1-2 years. Pity about Collingwood.
-
No, it wasn't a MARK to Buckenara it was a FREE KICK to him against Rodney Grinter. This did happen BEFORE the first of the sirens sounded. I've watched the video too many times. I hope its faded and unplayable now.
-
Interesting post. You are certainly spot on about the siren. If the umpire had have heard it it would a have been a set shot for goal from 50 metres out not 35. It went more than once and the umps seemed oblivious. Certainly Jimmy wouldn't have received the 15 metre penalty if the game had stopped when it should have. He wouldn't have had to run over the mark to cover an opponent on his own near the goals. For a tired player, the distance might have been too great for Buckenara. But, candidly, who knows? We never will.

Did Willy have the wind this quarter? Hope so.
-
Martin - had little impact Yet you gave him 2 votes! 40 HO is hardly having little impact particularly since many of them found a Melbourne player but couldn't break clear.

And now a look at the all important future. Carlton Loss Essendon Loss? Win? Could surprise here. Collingwood Loss Fremantle Loss Richmond Win??? WB Loss Port Adelaide Win?? Hawthorn Loss Geelong Loss Carlton MCG Loss??? Will do better this time round. West Coast Loss?? Richmond MCG Win Gold Coast MCG WIN Port Adelaide AAMI Loss Should be a Win But its at AAMI. Not a rosy outlook BUT if our injuries start to drop, take away the question marks next to the winnable ones.
-
Sad to say, but at present, we are taking one step forwards and two backwards. I think we will be lucky to win as many games as we did last year. Even though we play play the easy beats ( Gold Coast) twice. Lost too much experience too quickly. McDonald and Bruce = 500 games.

I have never had a problem over many moons when we have worn our traditional jumper against Essendon or ANY ONE ELSE. Essendon, Big Red Sash on black jumper, red and black socks, Melb. Big red yoke on a navy blue jumper, bright red socks. Home team wearing black or blue shorts away team white. In the bad old days we could even distinguish between Collingwood and North Melbourne on the BLACK and WHITE TV screen. We simply looked for the white or black shorts. Got a bit harder when playing on a wet and muddy MCG though. Also players have faces too.Like you 'Iv'a I thought that our so called 'clash' jumper the other day was very similar to St Kilda. There was confusion now and then.

Which given the lottery system of our voting means nothing.

After being wooden spooners last year, the Eagles are flying! How do they improve so quickly? They seem to be able to pick themselves off the canvas and start winning and convincingly.Have they recruited more efficiently than us? They certainly have maintained a blend of experience and youth and it is already paying dividends. On the other hand Bailey has gone for his youth policy all to no avail. It is a bit frightening that Richmond and Essendon are improving faster than us at the moment. Are we ever going to get that premiership window opportunity? 2013 or 2014 is being talked about but gee, I don't know . What do you reckon? Sorry to be so morbid but the reality of another long wait is startling.

Who are the most annoying three players in the AFL?
Bobby McKenzie replied to a topic in Melbourne Demons
Do you really think he's not trying? Form is a funny thing. Get out of form and it takes time to find it again. He needs our SUPPORT at this time not bagging. He'll come good don't you worry. -

By you naming Aaron Davey, I don't think your HEART BEATS TRUE at all. Support your players when they are going through a bad patch FPS!
