yes i took my girlfriend to the game and we saw jim walk down to the cheersquad with his son. it brought a tear to the eye for both of us. everyone around us fell to a hush and then a cheer - ie "it's jim stynes". talk about a hero - he gave extra significance to the actions of the team on the field. it really puts everything into perspective doesn't it? football is a game that takes up so much of our lives - and yet is essentially just a game - blokes kicking around a football. but football is more than a game for us now in that we have all got to know this inspirational man and his fight to save our club and then to save his own life. i believe he will succeed in both.

Other interesting stats: Jamar has the 2nd most hitouts so far - 91 with only Sandilands doing better Melbourne has 244 points scored against - only St Kilda and Sydney have lower scores against

can someone tell me why everyone thinks Bartram is so lucky to still be in the team? IMO he played well last week - really good pressure and tackling - much better than Bruce for example..

INS: Sylvia, Martin OUTS: Bate, Newton Bartram stays in as he played well and deserves another crack. Bennell's pace in the forward line made a difference - despite shirking it at times he created a big spark with his defensive pressure in particular. Bruce played a bit better than the previous week so I'll keep him, although he's lucky as I was almost going to drop him for Rivers - I felt Rivers played a shocker against the Hawks so might need a run in the 2s. Bate goes as he has been disappointing so far this year - Sylvia is the obvious replacement. Newton played OK although I feel Martin is a better option due to his ability in the ruck - this decision is based on the hope he has been working (alot) on his kicking.

Nathan Brown on the footy show said there are whispers from Melbourne players that there is no game plan. Sounds about right.

good point regarding a lack of options when kicking from the backline - the same thing has happened to us for years now.. why don't they teach them to create space, make leads, present, run etc etc like in junior football we always were taught this.. melbourne always seem to just stand there. it is very frustrating as a supporter!

I agree with most of what written above but the main thing we need is a GAME PLAN. I know we've all been saying it for years but I'll say it again just in case anyone in the world is not aware that our game plan sucks! Watching the game on TV is hard as you can't see up the field but i could not believe that we'd continue to go backwards and sideways. And we have been doing it for years as well as overusing the handball and handballing to a guy under pressure. Bails please for the collective sanity of the 30,000 people who love this club teach the guys to use the ball better!!! Learn to run into space up the field, use the criss cross thing that Geelong always does you know where they run diagnally in front of the ball carrier etc. and of course manning up has always been another of our issues. if i have to sit through another game hearing that old bloke yell "MAN UP" 100 times i will have a total meltdown. You know the guy he sits in the red seats and gets (understandably) very irritated with our crappy zone defence which simply doesn't work and in turn annoys the crap out of everyone else and also gives some people concern that he may indeed die of a heart attack. come on bails and co if this guys dies of a heart attack from yelling out "MAN UP" too often it will be your fault!! you don't want to kill him do you? so please guys it's time to LIFT. OK rant over.

so i thought freo got so many soft free kicks in the first half i was fair dinkum going to spew all over the pub table. we were totally robbed by the 'modern game' in some respects. also i thought we were good apart from centre clearances and our forward line. very happy with sculls and trengove in particular. did think there are still problems with game plan - kicking it backwards etc - we need to attack at all costs not stuff around with it in the wrong half - i am happy to be told i am wrong with this opinion of mine if it means we win more games

agree - we were awful out of the middle tonight. we just couldn't get our hands on it at all.

agree - can mark sometimes, can kick straight sometimes - but cannot make the right decision under pressure.
