There are tonnes of jobs where people are reliant on their physical condition, most jobs if you want to get down to it. However you're right footy players/sports people aren't covered by regular workers comp as their contracts cover injuries - I was just pointing out the differences as you were saying everyone else is entitled to comp if injured at work however there are regulations around how much etc regardless of your income.

The continuing saga of Melbourne's injury list - 2014
Dr. Gonzo replied to alpha33's topic in Melbourne Demons
How many teams could have an injury list of 9 players and 7 of them KPP's/rucks? It is beyond farcical and the thing is there is a few of them I can't see playing anytime soon. -
People do have an entitlement to workers comp if they suffer a work related injury (physical or mental) however their payments are capped at about $2000/week (used to be $1400 til a couple of years ago) and most people will only get 95% of their wage for the first 3 months then 80% after that capped at the stat max of ~$2000. Not saying this is the same situation just providing some perspective on this specific issue.

Just wait til Hogan finally comes good then pisses off to Freo *ducks for cover* -
It shouldn't be too difficult to just reverse our jumper so it is red with navy blue yoke. Would eliminate clashes and preserves our jumper to the greatest extent possible considering a change must be made. The thing that gets me is it's all well and good to not care during the H&A season but if we ever make another GF I want it to be in our traditional navy blue and red yoke not whatever white design they come up with that year.

He was responing to my post about the R17 game at Glenferrie.

I stated it earlier but I think one fed into the other. The fact that we allowed them to have the loose man behind the ball combined with the fact we had no tall targets up ther meant that we had to take our shots from around the 50, generally on a bit of an angle which meant our accuracy was poor. Yeah we hit the post a couple of times and missed closely a couple of others but this was due to the fact we were taking low percentage shots due to being forced to kick from the 50's on the flanks. Had we manned up the loose man we would have had a better chance to kick to an even contest or at least lock the ball in our 50 allowing us to set up to create a goal.

Viney copped a concussion during the pre-season and then another after returning from memory. Not sure about Jamar.

They said he injured his calf again just before going on leave.
-
He said on Game Day this morning he doesn't eat meat and hasn't for a couple of years, no wonder he's losing strength.
-
Regardless of anything else going on in his life, Clark is injured - he wouldn't be playing at the moment anyway.
-
I agree but the other side of the ledger is we were playing the worst team in the comp of the other 17 sides who were without their 3 best mids and a key defender. How will we fare against the rest?
-
Yeah fair point - I think the fact is we had to do something but we just kept persisting with what wasn't working.
-
Frawley was on him for most of the second and he did not keep him quiet. He was playing further up the ground so didn't hurt us on the scoreboard but was still killing us.
-
It was clear he couldn't run with him and Riewoldt's strength is his hard running up and down the lines. You can argue we didn't really have other options but to argue we couldn't tell how bad the injury was is rubbish I think.
-
Yeah Frawley was poor on Riewoldt so we probably had no other option there but still an injured player who can't keep up with Riewoldt is a recipe for disaster. Probably would have been better off persisting with Frawley there. The loose man we'll have to agree to disagree, it was obvious from where I was sitting it was killing us going forward and then on the rebound when they ran it off half back kicking into an open forward line. You're right our forward line was pathetic but that doesn't mean you leave the guy alone and hope it comes good or blame them for the loss. If the forward line is poor and the loose man is killing us you have to do something to address that not just let it go and so "Well if we had Clark there the loose man wouldn't be hurting us."
-
Keeping an injured player on the best player on the ground and failing to man up the loose man is where I think we were outcoached.
-
I appreciate the positivity but we lost to the worst team (bar us) in the league without their 3 starting mids. I don't know where you think our wins will come from.
-
The loose man killed us - if we went man on man forward we would have at least been able to create 50/50 contests down there instead of kicking it to a loose defender or an outnumbered Melbourne player. This meant we had to work the ball forward through run and handball leading to too many shots from the 50 and beyond which missed narrowly and cost us multiple goals and the match. Roos should have manned up Roberton after the 2nd quarter, the fact he didn't left me scratching my head.
-
I agree with the sentiment but in reality he will get rag-dolled and not sure he has the nous to play forward?
-
It actually felt palpable in the crowd. After the first 15-20 minutes the air seemed to go out of the side and while they battled on they didn't seem to have the zest they did in the first 10 minutes.
-
Who is left to bring in? Clark, Hogan, Dawes, Fitzpatrick, Jamar, Gawn, Garland, McDonald - almost all our tall timber are gonna be on the sidelines. Should we try Dunn forward? I seriously have no idea what we can do its like shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic and West Coast will f-log us by triple figures. Seriously f-log is censored?
-
Allowing them the loose man in defense is what killed us. I have no idea why Roos refused to man him up.
-
Spencer was up against it no doubt and his effort may have been good but he's just not good enough. Not his fault that's just the way it is. Jamar, don't get me started on Jamar. Shouldn't be on the list anymore but some nuffy thought it was a good idea to give him a 3 year contract. Pedersen too. And McKenzie. Seriously did they think rival clubs were really going to swoop and take away this gold mine of talent?
-
I've been saying for a longtime he is too one dimensional. I'll wait til he has forward line support before criticising but we needed him to step up big time last night and he was nowhere to be seen.
