Last year the team just ran ran and ran until they broke the opposition with run and carry .They tackled in twos and threes from the first bounce to the final siren .This year they seem to do thsi for maybe a quarter or half a quarter .Then the opposition seems to damage us with their run and carry .This has even been the case with lowly sides who we never really put away .Is this a fitness issue or something else entirely ?

The main problem is that simply he is not a good mark .He has not been a one grab mark ever since he came into the side and his marking is not improving with the gaining of experience,His signature grab is the two bite mark often following a one handed attempt .if you are not a clean mark you will not make it as a key forward .

hopefully not next weeks prediction

A dual All Australian who inexplicably is playing poorly in a poor side at the moment .Can run all day and is an elite accumulator. Don't believe we have any prospect in getting him but would be a bonus replacement for Hibberd and Melksham .
-
yes you are correct tincan .I thought last year we ended up with 57 but checking the always accurate figures of GOTO it was in fact 54000
-
if we are only on par with last years increases from here on in we break the 70000 mark

The Sharks are a particularly strong side from a particularly strong club .JacobTownsend,Jacob Dawson Aidan Fyfe ,Billy Gowers and Boyd Woodcock were all AFL players last season .The Sharks even recruited our Jay Lockhart and Zac Foot. They are cut above The likes of Coburg Preston Willy and will help list the standard of the VFL.A shame Aspley handed back its licence as they would have been good also.

It is still less than a year since Tommo did his A. Wasn't expected to be in the side in the early part of the year but Pettys injury forced the selectors hand .Tommo was underdone and in the circumstances did a wonderful job .Without him we had a huge problem especially with Lever out .He now has a chance to go back to Casey and get more match conditioning without the pressure .

that is an insightful and generally accurate analysis of Max's first two games plus the Carlton hit out .Max has been dropping his marks but even at his best he does not clunk them like, say Stephen May .Even THAT mark in rd 23 was a two biter .He has not been getting many of the 50/50 decisions at boundary throw ins and seems to be not unreasonably frustrated .He does however work tirelessly around the ground to create an extra man at contests in the midfield ,forward line and defence and this part of his game is immense.

POSTGAME: Community Series vs Carlton
kallangurdemon replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
A disappointing night ,Our good players will continue to be good but there is little to get excited about with those fringe players who got a chance tonight .hunt still has no idea how to do anything but run at one pace in a straight line ,Cant he learn to step or swerve or even vary his pace .?He get picked off so easily laterally when he runs with the ball .Baker is not good or hard enough ,Tomlinson is so slow as he has had only 10 months to get over his ACL and needs half a season at Casey. The ball continues to bounce off Weeds hands as it has done for the past 3 seasons.Spargo seems to be revisiting his 2019 form. Our best 22 will give the flag a shake but heaven help us if we get sa bad run of injuries. -
would have taken 2 kicks for Charlie.

TRAINING: Friday 4th February 2022

Pleased to read the comment on Dunstan s disposal .That has been the serious the only serious knock on his game .If it is not an issue he will be in our best 22. -
Hopefully if the AFL makes rule for the NGAs it has the integrity to apply them. I don't expect all the rules to be immutable but to introduce a rule retrospectively as was the case with Mac Andrew was clearly dishonorable. We were the only club with a potential first round draftee (I think Michito Owens drafted by the saints at 33 was next) so we were the only club to suffer detriment .In the interest of fairness Mac should have been exempted from the rule change .A club should be hesitant in investing resources in NGA and risk this type this type of ad hoc rule change.
-
How do we possibly chase any one of note ? We have neither draft capital or potential salary cap space .The only solution would be to trade an established premiership player and to do that would be madness.Should just concentrate on those that we are fortunate enough to already have .
-
As soon as the final siren rang I knew we had it .Not much before.
-
George I look forward to this thread each year .Membership numbers put the year into clearer perspective .Keep the regular updates going !
-
Syd it is more than unfair for this retrospective rule to have been introduced,it is immoral .We were the only club likely affected by the rule change this year . i expect that half f the clubs would have been happy we lost our NGA choice and the other half would have wished us to lose our first round selection as well. Poor form by the AFL to make a decision at our sole expense .

Best Player to wear #24 since 1964.

Ross Dillon had a Schwarz like career .After his first game against Richmond he was touted as being a future super star .But he did the knee soon thereafter and although he became a valuable player on his return he was never quite the same both here or in SA .As good a judge of the flight of the ball as you will ever seer -
Hugh Greenwood jumps ship to North Melbourne

it smells of a salary cap dump. With the trade period well and truly closed I can see no other way the Suns could have done it if that was the clubs intention .- 56 replies

And while we are on this painful subject it would be remiss of me not to remind all that we were subsequently cleared of the tanking allegations and given AFL face saving fully suspended fines on exotic breaches by Chris Connolly .I recall discussing the matter with Don McLardy at a function and being advised that the club was supremely confident of being exonerated by the enquiry but settled with the AFL so the club could move on and concentrate on football issues

2021 Player Reviews: #26 Sam Weideman
kallangurdemon replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Lucky to have been offered a contract by us .No other club showed any real interest .I thought his cards were marked after the Collingwood effort .The upside was that the forward line was rejuvenated when Weed was belatedly replaced by BBB and the rest is history .He has been given a final opportunity to reinvent himself and no one would be happier then me if he turns it around .But frankly Im not all that optimistic. -
My understanding is that Indigenous coaching and development contracts are exempt from soft cap calculations
-
The pies were under pressure to bring a well credentialed and well respected indigenous player into the club .They certainly hit the mark .
