well at least it will be interesting to see what second half changes we make.Go dees.
-
No No I watched it on the AFL feed .If Verrall slaughtered Podhajski then the AFL feed must have used trick cameras because what I saw was diametrically opposite to your claim .it was a man against boys for both Verrall and Fullarton .

Are you being serious ?
-
Wow that was painful to watch.Howes the only one who looked a class above this comp although having said that he was loose and his disposal problematic.Heaven help us if Max goes down unless we can grab a ruck from Doutta Stars or South Morang . Tholstrup battled hard but for a first rounder and 2 seconds you would nearly expect Harley Reid .And he aint that. Jeffo showed a bit but faded out which has been his pattern for most of the year .Mitch White is head and shoulders above any other Casey team member.

Mitch Clark.Should /could have been an absolute gun .Most gifted forward i have ever seen at the Dees save for the early Schwarta.Almost sabotaged his own career at 3 clubs .It is a crying shame that we only only got a glimpse of his ability.

no,if we extend it must be for a minimum of 12 months but there is no ceiling on the length beyond that . -
Welcome to Demonland: Luker Kentfield

Except that he is only on a 6 month contract .There will be no Jefferson type development phase with him .He either shows he is up to speed this year or he is out . -
Wow this Josh Jenkins certainly runs hot and cold on the Dees.

Disco must have amazing recuperative powers .Second time this season that he has made a much sooner than forecast return from injury .

Matthew ( or Eddie as one of those challenged commentators called him ) was very good today .After he kicked that early goal his confidence was palpable .Consider this his VFL break through game .Not nearly ready for AFL but saw green shoots today .
-
Yes I have watched him closely .He played a reasonable first quarter yesterday and that was it .Not even taking a grab which was his one strong area .Maybe he will develop but I'm not in the least bit confident .What I am confident of is that he is not remotely at present up tp AFL standard .
-
That selection would be surely the definition of desperation .He has shown absolutely nothing to date and doesn't even deserve consideration .

In the early 1980s Ron Barassi and Barry Richardson announced to the football world that the Dees were to prospect the Emerald isle for potential players. This proposal was met with a combination of amusement, skepticism and scorn by the wider VFL (as it then was) community. That attitude changed markedly when we in our early batch we produced 2 All Australian recruits and had possibly a 3rd in Paul Earley if he hadn't been consumed by homesickness and returned home. The recruiting move was a radical success. Fast forward to 2024, and ironic as it seems many clubs have Irish players, (in some cases like Brisbane and Geelong more than one), and we as the founders of the scheme have no-one at all. In fact it is more than 20 years since our last Irish hopefuls Kevin Devine and Nick Walsh tried out. I acknowledge that the AFL made things difficult for us, which is of itself not unusual, after the Wight-Stynes recruiting coup, by requiring us to use draft picks to recruit this untried talent. But now we can use Category B selections so this is no longer a valid excuse. What happened? Where did it go wrong? Why aren't we even in the market for these players? Don't we have a past network of contacts to assist in the process? Irish players are not even mentioned in men's recruiting discussions at all although in fairness the women's team has been creditably proactive. We just seem to just have this fascination with basketballers who are tall but not much else as our category B rookie targets. Can you throw light on why we are no longer interested in rebooting the Irish experiment?

We went from 1964 to 1987 without playing in a final series and of course in those days there was not even a hint of assistance .WCE has been in existence for 29 years and played in 20 final series .Pretty obvious what my view is on any assistance to them .

That's Liam who isnt playing well at all.But his cousin Jacob is playing a difficult role with a great attitude and is important to the team.

Sydney complaining about Essendon tactics off the ball...
kallangurdemon replied to Ouch!'s topic in Melbourne Demons
He certainly doesn't adopt the "what happens on the field stays on the field " code. The last time that I can recall him being interviewed post game was when he referred to Tom Bugg's hit on Callum Mills as a "dog act " which certainly didn't help Tommy at the tribunal hearing .Anyway Bugg has gone on to bigger and brighter things . -
In what must be perverse first in VFL football the rover Moniz-Wakefield (who was ok ) had more hitouts than the ruckman Farris-White (who was deplorable ).Neither Verrall nor Fullerton impressed .Schache was insipid . We are in a world of hurt if Max goes down.

Jed Adams Re-Signs for 2 More Years
kallangurdemon replied to Heart Beats True's topic in Melbourne Demons
He is rangy and particularly quick but to date he has shown very little. Now is the time to start showing improvement . -
From the moment that Christian said he would take no action against Maynard it was all over and from then it just became a show trial .He didn't refer it to the tribunal neither did Keane they did it jointly (when did that ever happen ?)Christian did not change his stance even after the referral .It was akin to a prosecutor stating to the jury that it could decide the matter but as far as the prosecutor was concerned the accused was innocent . Did they even call a human movements expert to contest the evidence of Maynards expert ? .Some involved had allegiance to Collingwood and were not remotely independent . Im no fan of Keane .She sold us down the drain .

6.may 5.viney 4.fritsch 3.salem 2.tomlinson !.mcvee how coluld you leave Fritsch out.? Our only dangerous forward all night .
-
The overall consequence of retaining both on the list was exacerbated by the fact that we then had to effectively give draft picks 28 and 36 to the Suns to get list space. These picks are in the range that got us Rivers Petty Fritsch Spargo and Howes so they can be important .I accept that we moved from pick14 to 11 and took Tholstrup , But he was a bolter and there was nothing to indicate he would'nt have been available at 14 . I found the swap perplexing .

This summary of Dees 2013 -2020 is far superior to anything I have traversed on the Footy sites or in the media. It was a herculean effort to assemble the data and provide visuals and I thoroughly enjoyed each installment . You are to be congratulated for such an interesting and fact filled post .

If we miss the final 8 next year then ...
kallangurdemon replied to picket fence's topic in Melbourne Demons
if we miss out on finals next year (we wont) then I expect that will mark the end of our era. -
what was the strategy behind the pick 14 et al trade for pick 11 and did that strategy materialize ?
