  1. lets be clear so that no one is misled and increases the risk of infection to others .Even if you have no symptons you must maintain social distancing to avoid unknowingly spreading the virus .The spread of the virus by not maintaining distance was the risk of the weekend demonstrations.
  2. The vast preponderance of opinion in this thread is that the game in previous decades was a better spectacle .I fully concur with this view and have nothing to add, .However the solution is more intriguing .The WAFL adopted as we are all aware a 16 on the field model with a view to make for a more flowing game .The ground are no bigger today than the 1980s but the players today are and they cover such more ground .The problem of congestion has been exacerbated by the Rodney Eade flood .Is it time to consider the old VFA 16 player a side formula which at least provided extremely watchable footy.
  3. Not sad at all.He was very much the author of his own misfortune and part of the problem at the club. Not even gracious enough to leave without embroiling the club in an unwarranted and debilitating enquiry
  4. fair go it was only 186, you make it sound like a thrashing !
  5. tragically became only a shadow of his former self after the recos. Prior to this was probably the most promising forward I had seen at Melbourne .Would have been every bit as good as Carey.
  6. i thought potentially Barry Denny from Morningside was our best .Got cleaned up by Terry Wheeler and career disappeared after that .
  7. I don't know where the sobriquet The Count may have emanated from but to us in the outer Paul was always lovingly referred to as Tamba for fairly obvious reasons .Yes he is a great guy who only left because of the Ridley sacking .
  8. graeme osborne (no.7 known as Brylcreem )would be my unbackable nomination for the worst player to ever play 100 senior VFl/AFL games from any club in the history of the competition .
  9. well done Demonland. Lovely gesture in these difficult times that made my day .
  10. Russell Colcott. Yet another undersized full forward ,but what a leap! Worth the admission just to see him fly for speccies. Didnt last long and then went to Oakleigh but an enormous natural talent .
  11. This is very much a case of ,blessed are those who have not seen but yet believed. We only have to think back to last Sunday to see the enormous up side of a Jesse return but sadly I also believe it wont happen .
  12. wow ! no Salem you are certainly a tough marker
  13. and that is the difference between him having a solid game and a great game .He has good hands and gets in good position so I am perplexed as to why he drops so many marks ,I have concluded it is just a confidence thing and soon he will just take them .
  14. i enjoyed the initial episode and am looking forward to next instalment.I Well done to the media boys. Its brave to make the doco in the present and hope the season develops in line with the theme of redemption and things don't turn sour .Not sure how it will all pay out in the end.Sort of a MFC version of "The Staircase "
  15. it brings back wonderful memories .We had to win the last 6 on the trot which we did including that epic last game at Footscray Then the 2 finals cakewalks and finally the tragic end .1987 was an incredible ride .I doubt I will ever see the building of momentum like that again .
  16. Stan Alves.Would dominate his wing but also bring half the side into the game at the same time .We didn't have many victories during his time but he was so responsible so often in setting up those wins .
  17. Well if the clubs list managers knew that Jess was going to have a season ending mid year injury then I do have a lot more faith in them .He not the club instituted the move back to WA and we accepted a lop sided trade in return.I am dismayed by the patent schadenfreude being displayed in this thread .He has done nothing to merit this. There is absolutely no evidence that's been produced to suggest his problem is career ending as much as some wish this to be the case..We have nothing remotely as talented as Jesse in the forwards and I would have him back in a heartbeat.
  18. Hannan to me still didn't seem completely free in his walking action .He spent a good deal of time practicing 15 metre kicks to Preuss who has a minor lower leg complaint .I suspect he (unlike Vanders ) may still be a little while away .I also perhaps should have mentioned that the veterans Chunk and Jetta were as sharp as anyone and looked totally injury free.
  19. Watched the first year players more closely. Surprisingly Rivers looked the most advanced and ready to play at this stage. Jackson may need a little time. Kozzie was sharp and skillful and will push for round 1 simply because of a need for a small forward. Of the rest Swallow and Omac both looked like they had put in hard work in the gym and were impressive . The biggest surprise was Vanders. He looks in ripping condition and may be in for a great year. ? DEMON SPOFFORTH'S TRAINING REPORT ? DOCS DEMONS' TRAINING REPORT
  20. and on top of that had to fight a cancer scare .Has had an indescribably bad run.
  21. The time line of the prospect of Harley joining us ran pretty much parallel with the prospect of drafting Jack Martin. We didn't appear to make much of an effort to convince Martin that we had the draft pick and he wold play with us or no one.A bit like North and Carlton over Keith Greig .Instead the club dismissed the drafting of Martin rolled out Harley as a substitute and people got excited .Now the overwhelming consensus seems to be that it was unlikely that Harley would ever play anyway .That consensus is well justified and I concur with it .But we cannot say that all we lost was a potential rookie list player .What we lost was an absolutely fortuitous opportunity to snag not some rookie listed player but a genuinely good fit footballer .Harley was just the soft option .
  22. What has puzzled me is whether there is any medical evidence available to the Club to suggest that he can get there in the end .Freo of course tried everything including surgery in Germany to fix Harley's calf problems.Probably all that remained was trip to Lourdes . All to no avail. In the end of all this the Dockers had decided by mid 2019 that despite their very best efforts sadly Harley wasn't going to make it and they not unreasonably let him go.Has anything changed which would give us something other than a mere hope that Harley would be right for 2020?
  23. no he was a terrible kick for goal-completly unreliable .But his marking judgement was unrivalled .Tragically struck down in his first season but had already shown he was something special . Although he was not the same player when he returned he was still one of our mainstays in typically difficult times .
  24. As a consistently long and reliable kick I would go for Bryan Kenneally .Surprising no one mentioned Magnificent Ron whose kicking was as good as the rest of his game ..
