What's the point apart from dumping his contract on another team? I'd have thought it would be better to keep him and then when his contract is up, let him walk. At least we get service out of him whereas trading him will get is a pick in the 40s-50s range which won't benefit us much now. Pederson is a better option on half the coin. Dawes' salary makes him untradeable unless he's going to a team in a rebuild focus specifically looking to top up its cap and then have room once his contract is up. He said Eagles officials, many of whom are still in positions of power at the club and league, haven't been held to account for how they dealt with the drug issue at the club: they swept it under the rug, actively tried to hide it, and actually helped the players score drugs. He's not blaming anyone for his issues. He's saying that while others have been punished for taking drugs, those who were in a position to address it and fix it actually helped along the drug taking. By his accusations, some Eagles officials acted as drug dealers.

What about the Bulldogs? Port? North? As good as Fremantle has been, they haven't been successful after 20 years in the league (only 5 or 6 finals series I think?), and have drafted and developed superbly with little-to-no help from the league. I know the current system and league isn't perfect, but it's no coincidence that a club that has been run as poorly as Melbourne has been is down the bottom for so long. I think a lot of the club's decisions are more to blame than any imperfections with drafting concessions and free agency. A champion team will always beat a team of champions. I know it's cliche but if a club is run well from top to bottom, you'll see success. This is the same in business across every industry. If you have people that want to be there and want to win for the club, then they will win. Our problem has been complacency, and righting that ship doesn't happen overnight.

The arrogance of Geelong is quite amazing. When they offered 800k they must have known Adelaide was going to match it. They can surely afford more. If they can't they have managed their list very poorly considering what they have lost this year. Adelaide matching makes is very hard for him to get to Geelong.
