  1. So does this mean we're still a chance for Dangerfield or...?
  2. So basically we're recruiting a hoard of run-with poor decision makers from other clubs...
  3. So basically he's the Jack Watts of Norf.
  4. seems that way.
  5. Geelong is banking on their draftees more than you think. Yeah they've brought in talent but there's a strong core of inexperience there. Their depth will be tested in the coming years.
  6. If Prestia goes to any club in Melbourne, it'll be Melbourne. His family is far too invested in the club and his dad has friendships there. I know that "supporting the club as a kid" has little weight these days but it's different in this case. There's no way he'd pull on the jumper of another Melbourne club. That's not to say he's guaranteed to come to leave GC but if he does it'll be to go to Melbourne. They practically have him gift wrapped, ready to be delivered. If he ends up elsewhere it would be a major indictment on the club. There hasn't been a player of his caliber with so many ties to the MFC in the club's history. If they don't take advantage of that, it would be an embarrassment.
  7. We're still trying to work out how to get Dangerfield from Adelaide.
  8. No they won't.
  9. Yawn. I think it's typical in Australia to cry when those less fortunate, through whatever means, are disadvantaged. Fair enough but most of the clubs missing out on free agency are simply undesirable for free agents because they're poorly run clubs. The reality is that free agency makes the league more competitive, which is good for the game and fans. Melbourne was a very good amateur football club. It dominated in the amateur era. It never made the transition to professional sports club and ultimately has struggled. If you are run well, draft well, treat your players right and create a good working environment, you will attract players. It has nothing to do with your placement on the ladder. There is no luxury tax (going outside your cap and paying a tax on how much extra you pay) so top, big teams aren't allowed to spend outside the cap. Everyone has the same amount to spend. If a player is prepared to accept less, that's a product of a GOOD CLUB, not an issue with free agency. There's nothing wrong with free agency. Free agency actually puts more accountability on clubs to treat players well and create a good working environment. Sometimes players leave good clubs (Beams for example) but that's the exception. Danger wants to leave but Adelaide isn't necessarily a club crying out for success to attract members. You can use free agency to build a strong list with good depth. You don't need to sign a Dangerfield or a Franklin to win flags.
  10. Just heard that Danger has told Geelong that he wants a trade to Hawthorn.
  11. I have a nasty feeling that we're going to regret losing him.
  12. Freo would be crazy to do that deal.
  13. So if 600k offer is [censored], I suspect it is in the 350-400k range. Melbourne must then be lowballing in the 175-200k range. It's clear that Melbourne is planning ahead and is looking to improve its salary positioning, whether it's to help this year or for a free agent next season. But it's clear that he won't be at Melbourne next year. TBH I think I'd rather him stay at Melbourne, but if the club is cutting its loss in an effort to free up cap space, then they better make something of it.
  14. Well said. Miller was a hard-working and committed footballer, and was certainly more useful than Dawes has been. Led us to some great wins in 2008, 2009.
  15. I thought he waned a little towards the end of the season. At the start he was taking the game on more, looking for goal, and pressuring hard. The last few rounds I thought he lacked confidence and was too worried about missing the goal and letting his teammates down. Besides that though he gave us exactly what we needed. Could have easily kicked 60+ goals had he kicked straight.
  16. We won't re-sign Hogan until well after the 2016 season. It would be silly for him to sign on now when he could easily improve his worth with an even stronger season. It's a risk for him but this is all talk atm. They're opening discussions and that's it.
  17. Melbourne's giving the photoshop jobs to the intern again.
  18. Without Demonland, Bigfooty would be my primary source of football chat *gag*
  19. Gtfo out with such rationality.
  20. Adelaide's replacement for Dangerfield: https://www.facebook.com/sportsbetcomau/videos/1039956776036399/
  21. Pity Dawes doesn't play like a KPP.
  22. Why in God's name would Richmond want Tyson? Anyway, could work out okay. Prestia to Melbourne Tyson to Richmond Ellis to GC
  23. You wouldn't give up pick 6 for Prestia? Reallllllly?
  24. It's far from a done deal. Unless Adelaide accepts compo, Danger could really end up anywhere.
  25. Exactly. We're actually one of the worst-performing teams over the course of the whole AFL era.
