Jeez Hawthorn are rubbish. Absolutely embarrassing losing to them this year. Currently 8 goals down at the MCG to Gold Coast in the 3rd quarter and don't look AFL standard. That loss to them this year better not cost us finals.

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
Lord Travis replied to stevethemanjordan's topic in Melbourne Demons
We needed midfield talent and depth at the time, so Bradshaw was the best choice. MFC did seriously rate Lever and wanted to get him, but they were looking at taking him and hoping he could develop into a big bodied midfielder ala Nat Fyfe, Josh Kennedy, Jobe Watson etc. Don't think that would've worked, he's definitely a defender. It's just unfortunate what has happened to Gus injury wise, as he is clearly a talented footballer and was what we needed at the time. You only have to look at his first season to see what he can produce and the impact he can have. There's still plenty of time for him to get over his issues and fulfil his talent. On output thus far though Lever is obviously ahead because he's been on the park more. We should be throwing the kitchen sink at Lever. With him down back, we would be far more settled and have better depth. I'm assuming the club will make him a big offer and if he wants to come across then we'd have to find enough compo for Adelaide. First rounder plus a player? -
Training - Saturday 10th June, 2017

While it's frustrating that Bugg misses shots at goal, it's good he is getting so many shots. Shows he gets to the right places and beats his opponent, unlike some of his teammates such as Kent or JKH. If only they had his work ethic and smarts... -
Reid was in ripping marking form last night. Clunked 5 contested marks in the first half! If we can get him cheap (e.g. Not 700-800k) then he'd be perfect second tall forward to pair with Hogan and give relief in ruck.

Came on here to post a similar thing. She's damn good in the media. Very well spoken, proper assessment and knowledge of footy instead of pointless banter, always backs the Dees too. She's a ripper of a footballer, great media personality and perfect role model. Also have a big crush on her haha

Dogs aren't much chop this year. Their midfield is decent, but their forward line is non existent and backline average. Won't be doing big damage in finals again this year unless they make big changes. In their current form we should account for them in two weeks time. Swans look like they're back to the form we expect of them. Should've won by 70-80 points tonight. Scoreboard flatters the Doggies.
-
Swans dominated all game and should be 10 goals up. They've just worked harder and outnumbered the Dogs around the contest.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 12
Lord Travis replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Salem in for Wagner it seems then. Club playing mind games naming Spencer! Interesting! Let's hope JKH is just an emergency and doesn't play as he offers nothing at AFL level. -
Huge news for the Lions. I was sure he'd bail on them like most of their other kids the past few years. It's good they were able to retain a key one. Once one signs, usually others start to buy in. For the Lions sake, hopefully this is the start of their recovery.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BALIC
Lord Travis replied to ignition.'s topic in Melbourne Demons
If he wants to come back to Victoria, he'd be a good target if we didn't need to give up much to get him. He's got good awareness, is a good decision maker, has decent skills, has a decent leap, and is versatile. Could play midfield, half forward or half back. I don't think he's just an outside midfielder, he's more rounded and some of his best work is navigated contests and then spreading for the link up afterwards. I reckon he'd be an upgrade on some of our depth at worst, and if he develops well he could become best 22. From what I've seen of him, he's similar to Brayshaw, but shorter and a bit more of an athlete. If we only had to give up a 4th round pick it'd be a definite yes for me. Think he might cost a late 2nd or 3rd round pick unless he is having greater mental issues and basically tells Freo trade me back home or I'll walk/retire. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 12
Lord Travis replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Elliot out is massive for them. Fasolo back is a danger, as he can fire up and kick 4-5 goals. If we can curb him then the Pies won't have many avenues to goal. At this stage Moore is not a big goal kicker, and I doubt their midfield will be able to chime in with enough to win. I'm feeling more confident than I should about Monday now. Let's grab those 4 points and jump into the top 8! -
Couldn't care less what Adams said, all that matters is we win. Actions speak louder than words. Let's just win the match and let the filth descend further into chaos on route to sacking their coach. Would love to see Eddie turn pink again! Bring back Press Red for Eddie! Go Dees!
-
Good to see him in a helmet and back training. Hope the club tries everything they can to get him back and playing whilst looking after his safety. He's a talented and driven kid who we invested a pick 3 in so obviously we'd love him to have a long healthy career in the red and blue!

Lumumba, JKH, White, Hulett to be rookied listed or delisted. That would be my guess. - Lumumba obviously gone before season even started. - JKH doesn't have any weapons and won't make it. At AFL level, he isn't quick, he doesn't get much ball, he doesn't put much pressure on and he doesn't hit the scoreboard. Gone. - White is behind a plethora of half back flankers and won't pass them to become best 22. Gone. - Hulett hasn't set the world on fire, been tried as both forward and back. If he couldn't crack a game when we had all the injuries and were given debut games to rookie listed first year players (T Smith) ahead of him, then says a lot about where is he rated. Will either be rookied for depth due to his size, more likely he is Gone. -Tim Smith first year on list, will get another. -Vandenberg is good depth for another few years both up forward and midfield, but not sure he will be in our long term plans. Will be re-signed, probably for 2 years. -Kennedy is similar to JKH except he is quicker, wins more ball and hits the scoreboard. Decent depth for our small forwards if injury strikes. -Trengove I have no idea about. Realistically he is probably gone, but it just seems such a waste of talent. The guy has had a horrible run with injury and having extra pressure heaped on him as a kid in terms of responsibility and leadership. His first few years were right up there as some of the best I remember, was neck and neck with Dustin Martin but had leadership value also. Then captaincy and injury destroyed him. Shame to see such a hard working positive guy get cut down. He will truly be one of the worst cases of a good Melbourne player cut down by injury.

At the start of 2017, Champion Data rated Collingwood the #1 midfield in the league, and Melbourne the worst in the league at #18. When they released that there was obviously much discussion and argument, but Dees as worst in the league was seen by most as definitely wrong. Still, the clubs and AFL use Champion Data for their official statistics so its' reliable. Would've to know how they came up with those rankings and determined us as the worst below some obvious battling teams when we had the All Australian ruckman and guys like Viney, Jones and Vince all in top form at the time. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/more-news/collingwoods-midfield-ranked-the-best-in-the-afl-for-2017-demons-the-worst/news-story/0454702aa6527ac5461a7cabca9192bf Just another incentive for us to smash the Pies!
-
I agree he was average as a key defender, but has played well since moving into rotating ruck/floating midfield. Similar to Westhoff, struggled as a key forward but has been good since moving into a floating midfield role and chipping in with ruck work. As key defenders, May is better and Lever is already decent and improving so would be the best long term option. I don't think Trengove suits us as there are better options out there if those guys are available.

Not confident about this match. We've been rubbish at the MCG this year and the Pies have won 3 in a row despite battling injuries. We need to start adjusting our game style for the MCG or we'll go nowhere fast. Our high zone seems to get caught out more at the G than anywhere else. If Elliot is out though that is a massive loss for them and tips it back in our favour. He is pretty much their whole forward line this year. When he plays he kicks goals and sets them up. Since he returned their form has gone from poor to decent. If he is out, they immediately 5 goals or so that he would've kicked or setup. It's massive. If we lose to them without Elliott playing we may as well give up. Would love to win this won purely to prove Champion Data rankings are bullsh*t. Best ranked midfield in the comp (Pies) vs the worst ranked midfield in the comp (Dees). I believe this is way off for both teams and hope we prove it. Win the midfield battle and we win the match. Their best remaining players if Elliot is out are Treloar, Pendles and Grundy, all in the middle. Win the battle in the middle, win the game as we best them all around the ground.

Because that's the colour he turns whilst choking on all the rubbish he regurgitates in the media. FWIW, I don't think Tippet is a spud. A mercenary and a bonehead sure, but not exactly a spud. His first half of last season was of a good standard and probably had him as 3rd best ruckman in the league in that period behind Max and Goldstein. He also chipped in with 20 goals or so in that period, so kicked roughly 2 goals a week while playing ruck. Then he got injured and couldn't recapture that form over the 4-5 weeks left in the season. He kicked 44 goals in 2015 rotating forward and ruck, so nearly the same output as Hogan at his best, but while rotating in the ruck. He's definitely struggled this season, as have most of his teammates. As he's older now, if he didn't cost us much he'd be good for us structurally. He'd provide the perfect second ruck/tall forward we're currently in need of for a few years as we push into finals. As long as we didn't have to pay him much or give up much there isn't much to lose. Gives Weiderman more time to develop in the VFL too without the pressure of playing AFL when he isn't ready physically and/or mentally.

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever

Watching Crows vs Cats tonight and Lever is bigger than I thought. Also playing with more mongrel than I remember. I reckon he would be a perfect target for us. First round pick to Crows, good cash offer to Lever, bring him across and our key defenders are sorted. Oscar can then develop at Casey and may be decent long term. Kid has leadership potential too as he is touted as Adelaide's next captain by their fans. -
That's my favourite goal and favourite moment at the footy. We were struggling in that first quarter and the Whelan absolutely flattened Hird,Travis get on the end of the chain and nails a running goal from 50 on the boundary. Crowd went berserk and it ignited us. Probably the most exciting game I've ever been to live, still gutted we lost that after some sh*t umpiring calls gave the Dons a win in a tight one. There was such excitement with the team back then. Davey debuting and completely changing the game with forward pressure. Some of our best players of the past few decades all running around together in Neitz, Travis, Yze, Bruce etc. Guys like Whelan and Doggie Brown owning the backing and rebounding brilliantly. This is the play that still gets me pumped.

He is. His game against us on the weekend was the best of his career. He's pretty much Omac with 2-3 extra years in the system. He's average. Wouldn't bother with him unless it was for a 3rd or 4th round pick. He'll be out of there team when R Thompson comes back in to pair up with May again.
-
Jones would cost a first round pick. He was drafted first round at pick 15. 3 years on he is proving he is AFL quality and will likely finish top 5 in Sydney's bnf. It'd cost a first rounder to get him. He's worth that, but we have other pressing needs first IMO.

Missed the second half of it. He talked about junior footballer and lead up to the draft. Was hoping to get selected as a rookie by Richmond 3 weeks out from the draft. Then Brisbane showed interest and he thought he'd go pick 30s to them. Then a week out from draft Melbourne showed real interest and he got drafted pick4 and was wrapped. Said he still needs to improve his fitness and the defensive side of his game. That's what coaches have told him going forward. Was a very outside player until he was about 16 and got OP. Couldn't play footy for a year, stacked on 20kgs, came back and had to learn to play inside because he couldn't move much. Worked out for the best as he loves the contest and stoppages. Was talking down his standing in the footy award rating for The Age, Coaches Association etc and is just happy he's been able to get over a poor preseason where he didn't commit with his conditioning and made some poor choices. Didnt head the second part of the interview but jeez we have landed an absolute ripper in Clarry. Credit to Jason Taylor and his team for taking the risk as it's paying off big time.

Interview with Clarry coming up on Triple M for those near a radio.
